Diablo 3 Tops Sales Charts for May

The games market went to Hell in May. Diablo III topping retail software sales for the month, according to the latest sales figures from NPD, and helped fuel a resurgence in the PC games space. Other top performers included Max Payne 3, which launched the same day as Diablo III, as well as Sniper Elite V2 and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
While action titles continued their dominance of the top 10, 2K Sports' NBA 2K12 held the fifth spot for the second straight week. Blizzard continued to show its impact in the PC market with Diablo III at number 1, the first time since July 2010 that a PC-only title has accomplished that feat. The game that did it in 2010? StarCraft 2, another Blizzard mainstay.

Total video game sales continued to shrink, down 28 percent from last year. However, the PC market jumped 230 percent from the same time last year to $80 million, fueled by Diablo III sales. The overall spend in May, including digital sales and microtransactions was estimated to be $1.17 billion.

Here is the full list:

damricBought D3 yesterday for my wife. She loves it.

Though as a hardcore Diablo II fan, I'm not impressed. I watched her play some. Characters look very WoWish and overall the whole game graphics look like it is at least 5 years older than it actually is.

At least a PC exclusive game is doing well though, although really they could have released this on Game Cube.
I do agree that the graphics are very low my computer runs it maxed out and it should not be able to do that to any new games. I have found many things in D3 that are very similar to WoW.

So you people want a tech demo instead of a game that people can actually run and enjoy?

Nobody I know has had this problem, so I wouldn't say the engine is shit. It does have some really unusual resource management though. It completely rips my HDD and puts a dent in the CPU, but my GTX670 barely gets used. They really should make it so if you have better hardware it switched up how it uses things.

That's not graphic lag, that's lag from the game having to keep reloading the death graphics. :D

The game was designed to run on all kinds of systems. It's what I'd do if I was developing a game.
No one seems to moan too much about Minecraft's graphics and the fact it's bandwidth usage is horrendous.
Just saying ...

Prima.VeraPoint is that for me 60$ is not a steal, but very pricey from my point of view, especially for a such a crappy game.
60$ for a game is not the same for people earning 600$/month and 6000$/month. So please, let's not generalize things here...
Lol..for that awesome game, 60$ is for free. 100$ still would be awesome deal. And if smb from Europe or America writes that it's too expensive, than he's just a noob.

Yeah, they should lower their prices to be more charitable.

Prima.VeraIndeed! They need to make games more expensive. Especially poor Blizzard. They are barely making any profit, right?

www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/atvi/financials
And how is it that they make such a big profit? Because in free economy if something is good, people can appreciate it by money. And Blizzard is the best so they have a lot of money.
And if you hate fun, you can save few bucks and not buy Diablo 3. The price is set, now its your decision.
