GeForce GTX TITAN-Z Market Availability Delayed?

NVIDIA's flagship dual-GPU graphics card, the GeForce GTX TITAN-Z, was expected to go on sale later today. That launch is now delayed, according to a SweClockers report. The three thousand Dollar question is why. According to some sources, NVIDIA is effecting a last minute design change that sees a meatier cooler on the card, than the one Jen-Hsun Huang rafikied to the press at GTC 2014.

There may have been a last-minute realization at Santa Clara, that the card - as presented at GTC - may not cut it in the ring against AMD's Radeon R9 295X2, or at least it won't be able to warrant its vulgar $3000 price tag, against the R9 295X2's $1500; despite AMD's rather messy three-piece approach to its liquid-cooled product (the card itself, a radiator, and coolant tubing), and so NVIDIA could be redesigning the GTX TITAN-Z with an even bigger cooler, to facilitate higher clock speeds.
So, what's changed? Eagle-eyed market sleuths noticed a difference between the press-shots NVIDIA released at GTC, and the ones online retailers put up to solicit pre-orders. The card "originally" had a 2.5-slot thick cooler; while the one in the press-shots retailers put up appears to have a full 3-slot thick one. There is no word on when NVIDIA will make this beefier, sweatier GTX TITAN-Z available for people with three grand to spend on a graphics card.

I think nVidia should go with a dual slot to attract more buyers if it can be done and lower clocks speeds especially if your paying $3000 for a video card and most customers if they are going to use a 3 slots they buy 2 Titan Blacks and SLi them with 4 slots.
A price for 3 Titans should be a dual slot only.

The thing is, then the r9 295x2 outperforms it and it's only 1500$.

I'm sorry, but the 295x2 beats what exactly? they're targeted at different market segments, the Titan-Z has over 3000GFLOPS of double precision processing power while the 295x2 has around 1400GFLOPS. Take your head out of the sand.

It probably can't have those 3000GFLOPS with double slot cooler then.

3 slots € 3,000. thick(FAT). Would not it be cheaper to subscribe copper block.:wtf: Yeah and these outdated !!!!!!!video output.
Delays reason is clear: AMD 2xR9-290X was better on tests and now have subsequently increase the operating frequency. Of course, this says that will definitely locked clockeng.:ohwell: and SLI will cover all areas on the motherboard.:banghead: Those who will have a deep enough pocket to will subsequently purchased a water block if they have something in the mind. AMD 2xR9-290X in the Europa wins already for € 1,299. So what should a conscientious customer buys.

any link to proof that ? if it's true then amd is a clear winner here with lower price and better or similiar performance

cause the the titan z is $3000 ! that's twice the $1500 r9 295x2... so that means the processing power of the titan z will be 2x of the r9 295x2. which means the titan z will perform twice the power of r9 295x2

am i right ? cause if i'm wrong... then... damn nvidia for charging it $3000 !!!!!!

His point is simple : if you want cheap DP, go 7970 (7970 DP > Titan)
If you want DP, go W9100.
If you want to get your sphyncter stretched and slow DP (or vendor locked yourself with CUDA, but getting vendor locked is always a sign of liking large stuff inserted down there), go titan.

Double-precision floating point performance is exactly 0 percent relevant to gamers. No everyday productivity apps that leverage GPGPU (eg: Adobe CS), use double-precision. But if we're comparing GPGPU that's relevant to common folk, then even a $399 R9 290 can outdo a pair of Titans at crypto-coin mining.

At its target resolutions (3840x2160, 2560x1600, 5760x1080, etc.), several publications found R9 295X2 faster than GTX 780 Ti SLI. That doesn't bode well for GTX TITAN-Z. You're not going to buy a TITAN-Z for 1920x1080.

I wanna them cancel it altogether. It doesn't make sense to release such an overpriced piece of crap so close to the new videocards coming very soon.

Exactly, hence the keyword - different market segment, its a niche product with its own attractions for whoever believes it suites their niche needs. If your only purpose with the computer is to play games all day then buy a gaming card. Don't complain that you needed a car to drive to work and that the Mclaren F1 is out of your league, we know.
people always tend to skip the 780s and love to compare the r9s to the titans because it gives them more contrast and proves a moot point- and they know it, but they just love repeating it to death.

nvidia should really drop this stupid card and concentrate on bringing Maxwell based video cards to market. Its ridiculously expensive and performance won't be worth the asking money of 3000$. :banghead:

It's not a bigger cooler. Just the I/O plate is now extended to the full 3 slots. Before it was just 2.5 slots, it looked better for marketing purposes...

I was actually wondering why the plate isn't 3 slots, 2.5 would just look wonky in an actual case.

The cooler was and still is 2.5 slots.

Let's not BS about it being a compute card. It's not in their professional product portfolio. It's a gamers card and "budget" option for video editing etc.
The 295x2,while not my cup of tea, puts Nvidia's $3000 card to shame. They need tweak the Titan Z much as possible to make it relevant. If i wanted a dual solution (which i don't) I wouldn't hesitate to get the AMD card over Nvidia's. Though in practicality I would double up on my 780ti Classified instead.

Face it, they got torpedoed by the 295x2. It must really suck to have to pull a product 1 day before it was scheduled for release.

I'm hoping that these ultra pricey cards are complete flops commercially. Even the 295x2 is stupid priced. The Titan-Z is an insult to anyone with 1/2 a brain. Remember the 7950 (AKA: R9 280) was less than $200 ~6 months ago. The 280's are ~$100 more than that right now!

I know very little about compute cards. My interest in GPUs is solely as a gamer so whether the Titan Z is worth $3,000 to someone that does need it for work is beyond my experience but this is a GeForce (gamer) card. This is not a Quadro Lite card and let's see what Nvidia has to say about the Titan Z.....

I have suspected all along that 2x Titan Black would outperform a Titan Z for less money although the prices seem to be getting pumped up for the Blacks so that may not be true anymore cost wise but performance wise I think it will hold true.

the real problem is, a dual gpu card should not cost more than sli/crossfire 2 card.

good old dual gpu card was saving money and space.
now they just have no sens,..

the maximum $$$ a video card should be is 1k$gold a piece
not 1.5 or 3k the fu**

While I agree with most of your points, one must take into consideration of the rampant amount of inflation we are experiencing nowadays, $1000 now isn't the same $1000 a decade ago. Don't believe me? Just look at property price - they are usually a good indication of inflation rate. Commodity prices have also double or tripled since then, especially in Southeast Asia where most of these components are either designed or manufactured, their worker wages has also doubled or tripled since then. So it is extremely naive to always refer back to what things used to be rather than taking into the consideration of what has changed or evolved.

For those of you who are clueless about how the economy works, view the full length of this video before commenting and you'll be a much more educated person:

This is a for 4k resolution monitors and beyond is for people that already wants to play decently at 4k like the 295X do.

Who wants this graphics card is already buying at least three 4k res monitors.

You people need to know what you really want.

This type of products draws only stupid comments ( i mean in others forums and not on TPU )of people who have neither the means nor the money to afford the materials you need (4k panels ) to rely on a similar product.

I say goodbye to 4K resolution to 2015 or 2016 when it will be available to all.

well for the slot occupied, i ran once a SLI setup with 2 Asus GTX 580 Matrix Platinum (3slot) on a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 hum ... as long as you don't need other card than GPU in your computer ... it's fine, (unless you worry about the temp of the slot1 card ahah :) )

Actually the Titan Black has 5.1 Tflops, the 290X has more with 5.6 Tflops.

If the Titan-Z is x2 Titan Black then thats 10.2 Tflops, the 295 X2 is 11.2 Tflops.

Edit. no thats wrong, the 295 X2 is 11.5 Tflops, it as a little higher clocks to the 290X
