AMD "Zen" Based APUs Later This Year

An AMD representative, responding to a Reddit question on AMD Ryzen branding, confirmed that the company will launch Mobile SoCs (APUs) based on the "Zen" micro-architecture later this year. The logical next-step for AMD with "Zen" beyond "Summit Ridge" has been to combine one or more quad-core "Zen" CCX (CPU complexes) with an integrated graphics core based on one of its newer GPU architectures ("Polaris" or "Vega").

The AMD representative confirmed that the company will launch mobile SoCs that combine "Zen" CPU cores with an integrated GPU, in the second half of 2017. This could hint at the availability of "Zen" powered notebooks, of all shapes and sizes by Holiday 2017. Over the year, AMD will begin launching "Zen" based products, starting off with 8-core high-end Ryzen 7 processors on March 2nd, six-core and some of the higher-end quad-core Ryzen 5 series processors in Q2-2017, and some of the lower-end quad-core Ryzen 3 parts in the second-half of 2017, now joined by mobile SoCs around the same time.

Manu_PTIm not talking about scorpio, Im talking about 2020 consoles, Damn you guys get so nervous when console is mentioned here!
That's why I said they can triple it.
hojnikbNope, they won't.

Apus coming out this year will be 768SP parts with DDR4. That would be a downgrade.
Are you saying that M$ is lying? :P

Microsoft will deliver a 6tflop Console, that´s all they said. Pretty pointless to debate this anyway, because console chips are always custom. No one seen APUs like the ones on ps4/xb for the regular consumer.

6Tflops from what? I bet it's CPU+GPU compute power...

GPU, just like PS4 Pro has a 4,2tflop GPU power. CPU tflop are always so low anyway... so idk where you want to go with that sentence. An Haswell i5 chip has like 350gflops. Now imagine a low power Jaguar, most likely 50 or so.

TheinsanegamerNOh who am I kidding? AMD will let OEMs throw their chips in laptops with inadequate cooling solutions, single channel memory, TDP limitations, 768p tn screens, and the finest 5200RPM hard drives money can buy, just like with richland, and kaveri, and carizo, and bristol ridge.

AMD needs to take charge, force OEMs to make decent products with AMD inside, or go through clevo or MSI for their laptop designs. The plastic junk that dell, hp, lenovo et al throw AMD into isnt worth its weight in garbage.
I completely agree with you, the most recent FX APU's on laptops are actually pretty decent machines with decent integrated graphics that just suffer from OEM's giving the middle finger to the laptops. I was with a friend helping him pick out a new laptop on a tight budget and he thought about an AMD FX or A-12 APU laptop and I just thought wow at the selection, almost every single one had single channel memory support only, 5400RPM drives, 768p screens (Which does not bother me much), and crappy batteries. I was shocked at how the OEM's treat these chips. At least give us dual channel memory support for the integrated GPU (Or two slots), the rest I could fix but I can't solder on another memory slot.

They really need to lay down the law with these chips.

One does wonder if we might perhaps see these in Surface lines. Its pretty apparent that the Surface line is well served on a CPU side, if AMD can make something power efficient enough, the better GPU would be welcome.

Thank you for proving my point on how they cannot do 4k native without cutting image quality, using it in simple games, and, now, they are cutting to 1080 when something shows on screen lmao.

If PS4 pro can finally get 'more' stable framerate at 1080, then how would they ever be able to do 4k with same image quality?
Also, you know what m$ calls 30 fps, but it's really in the 20s? That's exactly what's going to happen, here.

Stop apologizing for consoles and their peasants.

Native 1080p is standard for PS4, only XBone upcaled it.

PS4 Pro has double the GPU power of PS4 so can do chess rendered 4k (yeah, omg, it's upscaled) out of the box, a bunch of games in native 4k.

Notable mentions:
1) What Sony's studios are doing on their consoles: jaw dropping graphic fidelity (The Last of Us on PS3 anyone? Uncharted 4 on Pro?)
2) Nintendo's new console, which is essentially WiiU (rather pathetic) GPU power, is that the one you meant?

So, PS4Pro is half way there for 4k. Next Playstation will go 4k, there is no doubt about it. Even Microsoft's Scorpio will, although with noticeable compromises.

I mostly game on my notebook, 54xx series (4xxx rebrand) Radeon to impress console owners anyone? (Starcraft II, first Mass Effect, Kings Bounty)

Not only would love too see Zen in laptops but also in those Barebones Intel Nucs, how awesome would that be if you had a Zen based APU in tiny thing like that, be your portable Lan build
