Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 10 April 2018 Update (build 1803)

Microsoft began rolling out Windows 10 April 2018 Update. This isn't an ordinary "patch Tuesday" update, but a major update akin to "Fall Creators Update," which updates the build of the operating system to 1803. With it, Microsoft is introducing four major features to Windows 10 - Timeline, Focus Assist, Dictation, and a new and improved Edge web-browser. Timeline is essentially a time-linked file manager that organizes your files (and versions of them), e-mails, web-browser favorites, and search results, by time, so you can go back up to 30 days in time to find your stuff.

Focus Assist is a feature that lets you keep your focus on work (or productive tasks), and prevents you from being sucked into endless scrolling through social-media or other trivial activity, when you're supposed to be working. You set it to turn on in specific times of the day and days of the week, or even arbitrarily, and it keeps giving you visual or auditory reminders that pull you away from your trivial activity. The third major feature is Dictation, which is natural voice input as somewhat grammatically correct text. Microsoft made improvements to Edge that include the ability to mute tabs, maximize Reading Mode or PDFs into full-screen, secure payment options storage, and in-built Grammar Tools besides spell-checkers, so you no longer need to pay for services such as Grammarly.

The disc image is available from Microsoft directly at this address.

When using a Windows machine it will prompt you to install the Microsoft Disc Image Download Tool. If you rather have a direct download of the Windows 10 ISO you have to change your browser's user agent, so that the site thinks you are on an unsupported OS.

Chrome: Go to the page above, press F12, in the devtools window, top right, click the three dots, select "More tools", "Network conditions", User agent: Blackberry.
Firefox: Install a user agent switcher addon, then switch to the user agent to a non-Windows platform.
Edge: Go to the page above, press F12, in the devtools window, select "Emulation", "Device", "iPad".

I will wait a few weeks or more before trying this. I'm sure there will be some bugs I'll like to avoid :)

No problems updating. Task View actually seems like an improvement. Minor changes to a lot of things, but nothing earth shattering.

xkm1948Make sure to turn a bunch of options off. After the update I got some options flipped on "automatically" For example. Cortana.
And I got flack from certain users stating this was not true, well they can go eat dirty socks for all I care. I'll keep my 7, then LTSB

I got a a few pages at start up that let me turn it all off. Cortana was the very first one. They’re not hiding it...

She’s not REALLY off. That ability went away over a year ago. She requires registry editing to make it real. :p

So... The people here speaking about LTSB.
Do you have an Enterprise agreement? I really, really doubt that.
P.S.
Upgrade went smoothly, everything working as of now.

Also Fast Startup was automatically turned on again after updating. That option does not go well with my old ass TUF X99 board. Every time I have that on I get BSOD at boot up.

This recent update is giving me anti-aliasing issues with my nVidia GT630M, when I use Flight Simulator X:SE. It was perfect before the update, which I received yesterday (April 30, 2018).

I tried everything but still get jagged edges around textures.

Am I the only one with this issue from the update?

Thanks,

Braden

The title is wrong.
It's version 1803, the actual build is 17134.1, at the moment.

so then why are guys posting about that here ? I know my tin foil hat aint the cause is it ?? thet turn it back on wile you on line and get your stuff as fast as they can then you see its all auto on again and your boing back to turn it off ??

ya, tin foil hat ..lol... keep using it and enjoy it . high speed internet they can grab your data faster then you can get it turned back off ... like I say i'll never use it and would have to hate your guts to recommend using it .

in the end its your data and privacy not mine under 10

I like some of the new features, like the ability to set audio output for each program, I also like some of the removals, like Home Group.

Laptop (HM65)(Local Account) with the upgrade reverted some settings like Fast Start, desktop (Z170)(Microsoft Account) retained most settings.

Or Group Policy with Pro, you can also disable the Lock Screen.

Upgrade went without a hitch on 6 systems here, with 2 minor exceptions. As with INSTG8R, my shortcut arrows came back. Winaero took care of that quickly. And once again, my Windows 7 Microsoft games disappeared, but Winaero quickly took care of that too - and recovered all my statistics. :)
coonbrooperating system ? NO its a service not a OS . even Microsoft calls it a service .
Of course it's an OS and Microsoft calls it an OS. "Windows as a service" is how they build, deploy and maintain the "operating system".
coonbroin the end its your data and privacy not mine under 10
My data is safe and secure. And so is my privacy - at least from Microsoft - so is yours, unless you subscribe and connect through an ISP and have a cell phone that is - then you need to be worried about your ISP and cell carrier, not Microsoft, for they know way more about you, including real name, real street address and billing information. And your cell carrier knows where you've been, where within a few feet you are standing, which way you are heading and how fast you are traveling! And you're worried about Microsoft?
coonbrono way I can trust it or Microsoft now
Then by all means, uninstall it and never use it again. We won't mind. And I agree, keep wearing that tinfoil hat. And keep a sharp eye on that small flashy thing in the distance outside your window.

GoldenXArrr, bugger off, mate. Come back when ya OS is worth tha golden coin.
As far as I am aware, this site does not support piracy. It is really, really hard for someone to legally run LTSB at home.
So let me ask again, how are people here doing it?
P.S.
Your dislike of OS does not matter in this question nor it can be used to approve piracy.

i've been trying to install this for the last two weeks.

But it always fails with error code

Last failed install attempt on ‎4/‎26/‎2018 - 0xc1900101

and I don't feel like doing a clean install just for this build.

Uninstall your video drivers normally through the Control Panel.
Run Display Driver Uninstaller: www.wagnardsoft.com/content/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v17085-released Run DDU, Normal mode, then go to options and tick "Enable Safe Mode Dialog". Restart DDU, let it restart into safe mode, uninstall the rest of your drivers, then restart again. Install newest/latest supported driver. When installing driver, tick the box for a clean install.

neatfeatguyFall Creator broke my Win10 so bad that the OS actually failed and couldn't be repaired. Hopefully this one doesn't do anything stupid like that.
This one seems to have blasted the OS on my 7900X system. What a crock!

95ViperNo problems here, so far... except, seems they made the Edge Favorites Bar icons show the name and icon. Cannot seem to find the option to hide the names on all the icons at once... ended up doing it one at a time.
Yeah maybe they'll add the option back in later. I also did one at a time but I am content with Edge now, youtube tabs no longer auto play until you go to the tab, happy with the update so far.

With Fall Creator a clean install had the least problems.

Thanks for the tip, I disabled it again. Although I don't have a problem with it, I don't trust it, and my drive is fast enough I don't see much improvement with it enabled.

And why do they insist on putting the useless 3D objects folder back?! ...to regedit we go again, bye bye.
