Memtest86+ 6.00 Update Promised for This Summer

Memtest86+, the spiritual successor of MemTest86, has been somewhat stuck in development hell, but now the developer behind the memory testing software has promised to deliver version 6.00 sometime this summer. Version 5.31b was released in April 2020, some six years after the previous release and still not released as a final build, largely due to the pandemic. Version 6.00 promises a host of new features and the developers are already now asking for people that want to pitch in and help out with the project, since it's an open-source project.

The goal of version 6.00 is to deliver 64-bit support, UEFI and DDR5 with XMP support, as well as support for up to 256 CPU cores. Other features that are said to come include PXE and native USB boot. The goal is to provide a beta build sometime in April, but for those that don't mind compiling their own version of the code, can give it a try now, although the developers are warning that the code is going to be buggy at this point. The base code is said to have been re-written from scratch compared to prior versions and a lot of features are still missing and some features from the older versions are said to have been dropped, at least for the time being.

Open sauce ?!

No wonder why its results have been spilled all over the place for me, couldn't detect a faulty laptop ram for me that gave me windows errors, guess its only useful for ram overclocking stress test

I don't care whether is open source or not as long as it's not outdated by several years and can be used for free.

Good for you, but you asked what's up with the plus version and I provided the information.
No need to be rude about it.

It's good to see that finally something is happening with Memtest86+.
Over the years I've found it very useful and due to its free and open source nature, which results in it being available all over the place, it's bundled with Ubuntu and other Linux distros, on UBCD and other tools. This means, when I need it, I usually have it on hand.

But Memtest86+ (5.x) has been troublesome lately. Multithreading support doesn't seem to work on any of my machines, and on recent systems like Zen 3 it doesn't seem to work at all.

Oh it wasn't meant as an attack or anything. I guess it sounded differently than intended.

Yes, it was a "joke". But let's all be serious in the comments section from now on, no jokes allowed.

No way. Having fun is a part of life. I just thought maybe it was an auto-correct error..

the first public beta of Memtest86+ 6.00 was released May 2nd on their web site
a stable, non-beta release of 6.00 is expected this upcoming summer season
v6 is NOT READY for production yet!
Please consider the actual code as experimental and expect crashes and freezes. First non-beta release is expected this summer.
btw, older versions of Memtest86+ (like 5.01 & 5.31b) have been transferred to their archives page
