Alphacool Confirms that all its CPU Coolers are AMD Socket AM5 Compatible

Just in time for the launch of the new AMD processors in September 2022, we can announce that all CPU coolers and All-in-One solutions in the Alphacool product range are compatible with AMD's AM5 socket. The required mounting kit is included with all coolers and AIOs and enables the new Ryzen 7000 Series processors to be water-cooled with Alphacool products right from the start.

This reminds me I'll have to be on the look out for an AM5 kit for my Arctic LF2.

Not much of an achievement, when AMD specifically designed AM5 to be compatible to AM4 mounts.

The assembly is not 100% identical to AM4. Some manufacturers will have to adapt their mounting kits. But that is rather bad luck in the end if you have to do it.

So why an image of a block instead of a kit compare?

Or is that considered a company sec-krit?:rolleyes:

Well, of course they are! They are modular, so just slap a new backet and ta-da!

After all, we don't need to show details about the mount. Anyone can look at them in the manuals. You don't need any new parts.
And details about the base are under NDA. That's why we can't show that at the moment, either. But actually, enough has been leaked.

I am glad that Alphacool have a rep here. It's really useful when someone can directly answers to questions and concerns.

I'd also appreciate if Alphacool take a good look at what EK are doing, and never do that themselves. :D

I've got a question, is AM5 CPU sized 45 x 45 mm or as the same as AM4 and previous 40 x 40 mm?

All AM4 coolers work on AM5, because AMD intentionally kept the IHS location/position and mounting holes the same. The only reason an AM4 cooler would be incompatible would be if it was doing something weird, and unusually tight without the socket KOZ on AM4.

Corsair started this bullshit and now every other manufacturer will have to state AM5 compatibility too, for FOMO.

Fucking Corsair.

Not even that, it's literally the same two hooks going on the plastic things.

I'm going to skip AM5 myself, but will Eisbaers and Eisblocks be compatible? @EddyAlphacool

Yes they are.

@Chrispy_
This is not about the positioning of the drill holes or the CPU itself in relation to height, etc.! After the publication, you will understand why not every AM4 cooler can be compatible with AM5.

@zlobby
I'm actually just here for fun. Techpowerup is still one of the few sites with a NON-toxic community. The discussions are sometimes tough, but so far always fair and respectful. Unfortunately, that is now the exception rather than the rule.
And no, EK's way is definitely not our way and not something we follow. We have always gone our own way. It may not always have been the right one, but on the whole the successes speak for us. Because we are in a position to admit our mistakes and to take a step back sometimes.

I'd like to know what the exceptions are.

There are multiple sources from AMD direct (their facebook page, Rob Hallock's Tweets, credible sources interviewing AMD, including Rob Hallock) saying that AM5 is backwards compatible with all AM4 coolers because the dimensions and KOZ are identical between platforms. Unless they're glossing over something important, the only difference that we've been made aware of is the change in TDP.

I just imagined rep accounts like you browsing the forum in their personal account, then quivkly changing the account to rep account to sound more authoritarian and had a chuckle.

In order to officially act as a rep here, this is verified by Techpowerup staff. Otherwise, anyone could come. But yes, I had a private account here for a long time, but I rarely used it. Actually, I'm not someone who is still very active in forums. It's just no fun and I get upset far too often about the completely false information that many unfortunately spread.

Me too! I mean, I spread that information. :D

What about my height?

Otherwise height is hieght. Then you have width and breadth.
TBH, there are also girth and length but we're getting a bit off topic. And before mods get angry with me, I must clarify I'm talking of course about WC tubes.

people are not called out on their oh so called factual based answers so you have to just call them out more often, not to be seen as clueless, but to do for the principle! :kookoo:

I think the coolers that uses its own backplate will not be compatible with AM5 as in AM5 the backplate is attached. The coolers that use AM4's backplate will be compatible.

Yeah, but despite that some will still suck at it.

Look at the air coolers that get shafted and only work in one orientation on AM4, for example

I wanna know how their threadripper sized waterblocks with AM4/5 compatibility will perform vs EK's tiny little baby ones

@Khonjel I can confirm this is an official Rep account. He's been here a while, and he's even sent out some goodies.
It's been good to have him around giving direct, clear advice instead of marketing fluff.

One great example was that Alphacool recommend clear coolants to prevent staining, despite selling coloured coolants:
They admit that despite their best efforts the coolants may stain, simple as that.

Considering I've had four bottles of EK coolant go bad (2x mystic fog, 1x blood red, 1x acid green) while my first bottle of Alphacools Apex is still looking like day one... yeah.
I prefer a cautious company that doesn't over promise, with reps that try and clear up any confusion or misunderstandings online.
