Walmart Denies Buying 2 million HD DVD players

Some of you may have heard about Wal-Mart's plans to buy 2 million HD DVD players. Wal-Mart has recently stepped up to the plate and denied all rumors. The manufacturing company had posted what looked like an order for $300 million worth of HD DVD players, but in reality, that form is nothing more than a price-check, a figure to see how much it would cost to get that many HD DVD players. So, in short, Wal-Mart is considering getting a gazillion HD DVD players, just not from the supplier that posted an "order".

It might be in reflection to the fact that Mrs. Walton has just passed away ::bows head in prayer::. If Walmart was to get them and offer them for $299 or less, that would be an awesome blow to Blu Ray and the PS3.

I hope they do it! Never mind the format wars, any HD player at this price point would be very interesting! :-)

Well I looked around and it turns out we have them, but in limited quanitities.
When i say limited, i mean only certain movie titles are available in it (the most popular movies most likely). Probably because noone wants to fork out cash on a format that might turn out to be unpopular :p

Did you look at both formats(HDDVD and Blu-Ray)? Blu-Ray has many more titles available atm.

Honestly I don't see enough of either of them to warrant me buying a player yet.. that and the fact that nvidias crappy drivers wont let me rescale my picture size when i hook up my hd cables.. makes my dam picture to big to fit.. so using an hd player wouldn't even be useful until i can use my hd cables and run in true HD.. good ole nvidia.. gotta luv em.. with a big iron stick, repititously..

like i said when dvd first came out " wait for the price drop" the players will price drop, the disks, well who knows, as i understand it the costs of hd-dvd/bluray/hd content is going to be higher because the actors/everybody who works on the films has to get a cut now like they did back in the vhs days, so they gotta give the hairdresser, janitor, plumber, painter, actor, exct each a cut, raising costs, lowering sales, effectivly meaning they make less and sell less :)
gotta love it when the guild/union system screws itself :P

not that im against unions, i think we need more of them, but sometimes the stuff that happens is just STUPID!!!!

Yes it does. More studios are signed up on Blu-Ray. That may be changing soon, but it still stands at the moment. I own both formats, btw. I started with just HDDVD, but then bought Blu-Ray because of the fact that Blu-Ray had a better selection.
