AMD today released the Adrenalin 23.1.2 drivers exclusively for the Radeon RX 7900 series, making it the third straight driver of the kind. There has been no new driver for older GPUs, including the RX 6000 series, including the 7-month old RX 6950 XT, since December 8, 2022 (48 days now), which means the overwhelming majority of AMD Radeon users don't yet have optimization for games such as Forspoken and Valhiem. The latest 23.1.2 drivers only work with the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX. These introduce day-zero optimization for "Forspoken," and a handful background improvements for the Vulkan API. AMD fixed the "Delayed Write Failed" error noticed on Windows 11 22H2; less than expected performance with "SpaceEngine," and flickering issues noticed with "Emergency 4."

The more I think about this as a 6000 user, the more it irritates me. Forspoken (as cheese as it's looking to be) was given away with 6000 series cards last year and they don't even bother to have a game ready driver at launch for those cards.
I'm probably just extra irritated - the latest AGESA (the 1004 patch to fix the defective 1004 they released) seems to have killed the stability of my CO.
Point being, over the years, AMD (ATI before) has had numerous driver related problems compared to NVIDIA.
And that's for GPU drivers, I don't even touch the other hardware post Windows install. What's the point?
Now I'm back to June 2022 drivers. Lets see.
My 2 cts on theses drivers, Forza Horizon 4 (Steam version) worked flawlessly on a 6600XT and crashed with an 3060 every 10 min or so, since the 2 last drivers version ...
Improve framerate in a game via drivers is good, make it works is even better !
Basically what this means is that AMD is having more issues with RDNA3 than with any of the previous architectures.
Even when they switched from GCN to RDNA they had no problem supporting both in parallel.
These chiplets might be proving tricky to work with on the driver level.
Thankfully my 6800xt is rock solid bar type c port sucking but they will never get alt-dp working properly which is why my next rig will be intel/Nvidia.
Gotcha. :kookoo:
I'll take Windows XP gui any day if the thing underneath it is functional. Shit just needs to work. I'll look at games instead. Yeah this seems likely, and per-game optimizations... care face. If that's what you need on a 6900 series to run a console port like Forspoken, something is amiss
Having a 7 month old GPU from the very top end - 6950 - and not getting the best possible game experience is a bummer.
You sit and watch how only the newly lunched, just 6 month aprt, GPU get the love treatment.
AMDs driver dev team is probably 1/10 of Nvidias tho, if not smaller. This is part of the reason why AMD is cheaper.
I currently have a 6900XT and love it, though thinking that I will wait until 8000 series or RTX 5000 to upgrade as I was thinking about upgrading and giving my card to a nephew.
