MSI Confirms Intel 14th Gen Core Specs In YouTube Live Stream

MSI has done it yet again, that is to leak Intel confidential information about upcoming products. In a live stream earlier today, the company put on a slide clearly marked "NDA, do not share!" which confirms the specs of some of Intel's upcoming 14th Gen Core CPUs, also known under the Raptor Lake-S Refresh code name. That said, the only thing that really needed confirmation that is on the slide is that the Core i7-14700K is getting an additional four E-cores.

That said, MSI does provide some insight on what to expect in terms of performance gain over the 13th Gen Core processors and it's not a whole lot. According to MSI, we should expect an average performance boost of around three percent compared to the same SKU from the previous generation. That's possibly one of the worst performance gains ever from Intel, generation to generation, although it is only a refresh, but the question is, why did Intel even bother? The Core i7-14700K does on average get a 17 percent performance boost in multi-threaded applications thanks to the extra E-cores, but this is hardly going to make anyone with a Core i7-13700K going to want to upgrade. Note that the video has been taken down by MSI as of the time of this article being posted.

3% perf improvement, sounds about right for this nothingburger of a refresh. Presumably the 14900K will be clocked a lot higher than the 14700K to keep the product segmentation up.

What else would you expect from Massively Shite International?

don't believe it, 3% more from the previous gen will be given by the rumored 200mhz on PCore 13900k vs 14900k. The difference between the 14900k and the 14700k will have depended mostly on the 4 more e-cores of the i9.

Well it's the last gen I can do an upgrade with being on LGA1700 with i7 12700K.

That looks like a problem. Since this is the last gen supported on the current motherboards, I was hoping 14600k would be a worthwhile upgrade from my 12600k. Maybe I should look into a step up to 14700k? But I don't like high TDP (I run my 12600k constrained) and supposedly RPL refresh eat a little more power than RPL.

Ah, back on the Skylake trend where a "new" gen is just an optimization of the older one.

Well I would get 8 more albeit E-cores and higher clockspeeds though if I upgrade to i7 14700K.
Let's see in the near future.

With more cache too.

I’m hoping for a price drop on the 13900k. If it goes low enough I’ll consider upgrading the 12700k.

Then why do you have an Intel system?

Well, it's not a new gen, it has "refresh" plastered all over...

Because I'm not running it at ootb settings.

Also when I tried to go AMD I got a defective motherboard and got shafted on the service :(

Such tiny single thread improvements over the course of entire LGA1700 lifespan, especially when compared to AM4.

12th gen was a massive upgrade, but the 2 gens after it were rather disappointing

edit: will be rather disappointing*

Not really an amd problem, it depends on what was defective but it's more the manufacturer that was bad there if it's not directly the chipset

as long as you're happy with what you have, that's all that matter

Gonna wait for the reviews, but 14700K might be last nice upgrade for with this Z690i

It's a tool, it has little to do with me being happy or not ;)

I enjoyed building PCs more in the days where you could extract the performance of a $500 part from a $200 one. These days, it feels more like trying to not get ripped off too much.

I won't change platform next year if you mean that.

I will stay on Z690 for maybe 4~5 more years.

It depends on what Meteor Lake looks like, but likewise.

TumbleGeorge... mobile part?
Not 100% sure if meteor lake only mobile is and otherwise we have to wait and see for Arrow Lake desktop CPU's.
