"Dune: Spice Wars" Exiting Early Access Next Week

Hello Everyone! First up, thank you all for all the feedback following the announcement of House Ecaz. We're very happy with how the faction is coming together and we can't wait to hear your thoughts on Arrakis' newest arrival when the game launches out of Early Access later this month, which conveniently leads us to our next announcement...

We are very proud to share that Dune: Spice Wars launches out of Early Access and into 1.0 on the 14th of September! With release now within spitting distance, we thought it would be a good time to address some of the burning questions we've been getting of late and give some details on what to expect from this major milestone in D:SW's development! So read on for the official Dune: Spice Wars 1.0 F.A.Q...
What is Dune Spice Wars?
Dune Spice Wars is a 4X featuring real time strategy game elements based in Frank Herbert's iconic Dune universe

How much will it cost?
The current price for the game is $/€29.99, but will rise to $/€34.99 upon the launch out of Early Access.

When does the game release into 1.0?
The game releases on Steam on September 14th.

How big will the download be?
The game client is likely to be around 4 GB at release.

Is it an RTS or a 4X?
It is both. The game is real time, but the pace is slower than in a typical RTS (and you can pause and fast forward). The game also features exploration, territory control, economic growth, combat, politics and spying, features that make it a true 4X game but do not detract from the RTS experience.

On average, how long will one game last? Does it depend on the faction you have chosen?
Depending on your strategy and the chosen difficulty, for a newer player games can generally last up to 2 to 3 hours. That being said with much of our community now fully familiar with the game, we've seen this go as low as 30-45 minutes.

Nevermind, I asked Google;
What is 4X RTS genre?

We define 4X strategy as a game that combines real-time strategy, world-building, and RPG mechanics, where players ultimately engage in PVP-battles and build armies to attack and bases to defend.

This has my interest, anyone remember imperium galactica?

That was also RTS combined with management features, along side pausing battles. I loved the game.

Looks like from reading the FAQs its initially single player skirmish type gameplay, then later they adding multiplayer and a campaign, doesnt seem like its a complete game, so maybe I pulled the purchase trigger too quickly. But I will post here when I try it out on launch day my feedback.

4X means what it's always meant. 4X has never meant specifically turn based and I don't know why anyone assumes that. Stellaris isn't turn based and yet would anyone try and deny it isn't a 4X game?

I don't see anything about a game being turn based in Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate.

Well I am already hooked, playing the early access campaign, there is campaign in the game now, its not really a story based campaign but rather seems to be a extended version of the game, the tutorial only covers the basics, its got a lot of mechanics to discover.

Curious what will appear in the gold version of the game but have been playing this for nearly 3 hours now.

I think if they added a proper story with voice acting this has a lot of potential.

For those who dont like being overhwlemed, the gamespeed can be moved from pause to double speed, there is some automation offered in the game e.g. to make harvesters automatically run away when worms are detected (in this at expense of 5% production). So can reduce micro management. Game has an option to auto pause on certain events as well. Have just managed to fight of some fremen raiders. Caught one as a brainwashed spy as well. :)

Hmm, well ok. That's different from the search results. Regardless, was only curious. I don't really care one way or the other. Never heard the term and am unlikely to see it again as it seems to be used only rarely.

This game is doing something odd with amount of data written, in a 4 hour session it written over 20 gig of data. Is this something some copy protection stuff has been known for?
