Students Offered Office Ultimate 2007 for Under $60

As part of Microsoft Corp.'s commitment to education, the company is introducing a promotion inviting students who are actively enrolled at educational institutions and have a valid e-mail address from the institution to purchase Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 at a student price of $59.95 (U.S.). "The Ultimate Steal" promotion will run in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States starting today and in France, Italy and Spain starting Sept. 20, 2007. The promotion will end April 30, 2008.

Office Ultimate 2007 is the premium Office suite and provides students with a comprehensive set of tools that can help them create high-quality documents, gather and consolidate lecture notes and other information, stay organized, find what they are looking for quickly, and easily collaborate with colleagues and professors across geographical boundaries.

"We're listening to students who have told us they need Microsoft Office for their studies and want more flexible ways to get the latest version," said Alan Yates, general manager of Worldwide Education at Microsoft. "We're committed to providing accessible and affordable technology to students so they can meet their academic goals. The Ultimate Steal is the latest in a long history of providing compelling academic offers for students."

Earlier this year, the promotion was offered to students in Australia as a pilot program, resulting in great experiences and overwhelmingly positive feedback from students. "Our students had been asking for more flexible methods to acquire Microsoft software, so we were very happy to see this Web-based promotion," said Catherine Overton, manager, IT Contracts, Monash University. "Microsoft Office is also a key set of applications used by our students in their academic studies, so they were pleased to be able to acquire the newest version at such a low price."

Office Ultimate 2007 includes the entire Microsoft Office toolset that students are accustomed to working with and more, including Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft Office Publisher 2007, Office OneNote 2007, Office Groove 2007 and Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007.

Students can find program details and see if they're eligible at www.theultimatesteal.com.

I don't think you have to have a .edu email like me i have yahoo.
I WOULD think that as long as you can prove validly that your registered to a college it shouldnt matter ill even tell them the name of my shool and my name since they will need billing information anyways lol:laugh::laugh:

Very nice. Usually the student versions are stripped down and over priced, but this is a nice move by MS. Not much praise comes their way from me, but I am duly impressed by this announcement.

Why so? It's not like it's costing them anything. They could sell it to students for $30 and they're still making a profit.

College students don't even need to be spending $60 on Office -- if you need to write a report, get something free like OpenOffice. Does everything you need.

Besides, that $60 could go towards beer, man!

Good thing I still have two valid email addresses from my college, though how do they expect you to prove you are actually enrolled?

You know what MS throws you a bone and guess what you still say no:slap:

PPlus so everyone knows the reason for this happening wouldnt surprise me if it has to do with the recent update with Word 2008 and such lol id remember for sure how he got it but my freind has it at his house.:roll::roll:

Also mdm-adph;457082 you know what openoffice doesnt and with Office its alot more simplified and every single command isnt hidden from view plus the ride is alot smoother with office than with online applications imo;);)

Plus who needs beer in college give me lotsa caffeine any day over beer lol this works just fine for me lol: myarcadeplanet.com/print.php?id=401 :D:D:D:D:D

TBH, students probably account for quite a significant proportion of software piracy, given that they know how to use computers and they don't tend to have much money, so free software seems like a nice idea. M$ is using damage control by offering a much better price to try and tempt a few people that would otherwise be pirating the software. It's not nice M$, it's profit-driven M$. Not that there's anything wrong with a company trying to maximise it's profit (provided it isn't exploiting people).
