NVIDIA to host Guinness World Record attempt by gamers at NVISION '08

LAN Party gaming will reach a new level during a Guinness World Record-setting attempt at the NVISION 08 event on August 25 in San Jose, California. The aim of the event is to make history as the world's "Longest Non-Stop LAN Party."

The goal for the Guinness World Record is for a dedicated team of gamers to play video games continuously for 36 hours (10 minute breaks are allowed for every 60 minutes of continuous gaming). If the record is achieved, the participating team members will receive numerous prizes, including a commemorative medal, custom gear, gift cards, and of course, world recognition. The attempt will take place in a special, reserved section of the NVISION 08 GeForce LAN Party.

Gamers who are serious about the attempt and have what it takes to handle a GeForce LAN Guinness World Record seat at NVISION 08 should visit this page.

GLDI was at GeForce LAN 2.0 in 2005. It was a 7800GTX and BF 2 launch party. It was the bomb. $25 for admittance and got BF2 for free. It was only 1 day though. Paid for GeForce LAN 3 but didn't make it. Made GeForce LAN 4, CRYSIS launch event. $35 for 3 days of LAN and food and free CRYSIS. Another kick arse time. :rockout: I can understand the idea of free LAN's is good, but let me tell you, you WOULD NOT be dissipointed with a nVidia Corporate LAN. If you live with in driving distance of the LAN location, I think you would be bummed out if you didnt go. I was sorely bummed for not making GeForce LAN 3.

I am about 200 miles away for San Jose. I reserved my room, now off to but my ticket, and to save $20 now.
we have the end of C1 C2, join us

hihi

:)

"the participating team members will receive numerous prizes, including a commemorative medal"

cool....

If I know right, the commemorative medals are only received after an heroic act, a sacrifice for a cause,...

so what winners commemorate?

an ideea :) when I was in the army (military stage), the army have 1 or 2 contest per week with different thematics (shooting targets, field orientation, military tactics and trainigs). soo in that time was a good joke.

"the first that win a contest will have.... one photo with the army flag and letter from the army to the mam and dad :) " that was first place

the second and rest will win 7 day permission, training with advance weapons, rights to be in different contest of the any army corps, or a higher rank.

:)

The medals are because you sacrificed 36 hours of your life without sleep just so NVidia could set a record. So when kids open the latest Guinness Book of Records, they'll see an NVidia logo, but not your name. The goodies make up for that.

Some nerds have way too much time on their hands, and a big corporation comes along and tries to make it 'cool.'

Who would have thought getting all your computers in the same location, playing video games, not sleeping for days on end, popping zits on the fly and eating left over pizza with some Jolt cola would amount to a Guiness record.

Seriously... society ftl.

A. Nerds aren't the only ones that make up gamers.

B. Nerds are supposed to be busy people in whatever they do, they spend their lives in labs and libraries.

C. NVIDIA provides you the machines. Hey, what's 36 hours in return for awesome goodies, more imporantly, socialising with people, *cough*and booth babes.

D. Society looks alright to me. This event isn't much different from a gathering of sportsmen (in a sports event / tournament).

I sleep every night, zits have been gone for 30 years, I hate pizza and never tried Jolt cola.

Lan parties are way more than a lot of kids playing games. Its a place to meet others with similar interests, compare comps, share/learn new things and at this one Nvidia is bringing together a huge group of diverse people

Quote from Nvision 08 site:
NVISION will gather together top visual computing professionals, world-class gamers, innovative artists and designers, and cutting-edge researchers to share their ideas, experiences, and passions.

One other thing that seems to be a bit off track, you need to bring your own comp (BYOC) Nvidia comps are provided for tournaments only.(COD4, TF2, WIC, UT3 and Guitar Hero 3 Aerosmith)

At Lans I notice a lot of different hardware, I always go with AMD.:rockout:
(I may even be running Intel for the first time at this one)

Not everyone has quads and sli/crossfire. There are quite a few with Dells, some even with P3s.

Its a very diverse group, older, younger, male, female, nerds, geeks, skinny, not so skinny...
