Nanya Rolls Out 800MHz RDIMM to Support the new 45nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors

Nanya Technology Corporation, one of the worldwide leading DRAM manufacturers, today announced it is shipping 800MHz DDR2 registered dual in-line memory module (RDIMM) designed specifically for the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor, to help optimize performance of high-end server systems and workstation applications.
"Nanya worked closely with AMD on the launch of the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor (codenamed "Shanghai") to ensure that Nanya DDR2 800 RDIMM would take advantage of the dramatic enhancements in energy efficiency and performance enabled by the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors," said Dr. Pei Lin Pai, Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing and Spokesman of Nanya Technology Corporation.

"Both AMD and Nanya understand the increasingly critical role that memory plays in the overall performance of our customers' datacenters," said John Fruehe, director, Server and Workstation division, AMD (NYSE:AMD). "With significant enhancements in the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor that enable increased memory bandwidth, such as support for DDR2-800 memory, and Nanya's new memory modules, we are confident that our joint customers will realize superior performance while keeping energy costs low."

Nanya's DDR2 800 RDIMM will power new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor-based platforms. NT4GT72U4ND0BV and NT2GT72U4PD0BV are available now in production quantities. The modules are registered 240-Pin Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) Synchronous DRAM Dual In-Line Memory Module (DIMM), organized as a 2 ranks 512MX72 high-speed memory array and a 1 rank 256Mx72 high-speed memory array. Nanya DDR2 RDIMMs are manufactured using raw cards developed for broad industry use as reference designs. The use of these common design files minimizes electrical variation between suppliers. All Nanya DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs deliver high performance, and it will always give high-end users the ultimate experience.

Is Nanya a new player in the memory market? Never heard of em before but anything for the new opties are nice. I wonder if they have to use RDIMMS or if they will be like the opty 165 and stuff and use regular memory.

No they are pretty common in regular desktop variants too. I had a DDR 400 Nanya chip Corsair modules. They do not OC like Samsung or other chips but are ok.
