Apple Launches the 3rd-Generation iPod Shuffle with 4 GB Internal Storage

Apple today introduced the all-new iPod shuffle. The world's smallest music player, the 3rd-generation iPod shuffle is nearly half the size of the previous model. To control it, you use the new earphone cord. Best of all, it talks to you. Thanks to the new VoiceOver feature, iPod shuffle speaks your song titles, artists, and playlist names. The player comes only with 4 GB internal flash drive, no other capacities are available, but four gigabytes are enough to hold up to 1000 songs. Available today in silver or black, the Apple iPod shuffle 3rd gen costs just $79. Find more info here.

I'd probably drop it trying to yank my phone or wallet out of my pocket.

I wish they put an LCD screen on it and made it not a shuffle... but like an ipod micro. It would be so much better for working out.

Yeah, saw it early this morning. Doesn't suit my taste in the least but doesn't seem bad either.

I don't need iPods anymore, you just need your phone. When will kids finally realize that (no offense Cheeseball)? I got a Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and it rocks at music once I upgraded my MicroSD. It's a bit choppy with videos, but does the job! Plus, I think they should include a neck lanyard with a lock so that you should not loose it or have it stolen.

The thing is, I use a cheap (Nokia 3210 Classic) phone for text messaging and calling (and the ocassional MMS). Yes, it can play MP3s and supports up to 2GB microSDs, but I wish to conserve the battery life for more important things... which is basically calling and text messaging. :P

This is why the Shuffle (and other devices of this nature) is very useful to me.

Warning chocking hazard! Yea, Apple is getting ridiculous with their ipod these day. I would only hate Apple if the mess with the iphone and make them any smaller specially the screen size.

It's obvious that the shuffle is a cheap alternative to an actual iPod or iTouch or iPhone... The target demographic is probably people who exercise, or people who don't want to spend to much on a MP3 player but also want a good brand name.

Gezz my Samsung isn't much bigger than that, has a built in spring loaded USB jack and a bright blue OLED screen. Oh and it cost about 1/3rd the price! Only thing that sucked is it didn't work as a "thumb drive" and required Samsungs software to load songs on it. Thats BS but I flashed the firmware with some JDM version and now it shows up as a drive for drag and drop adding music!

That's what I do, I use my phone. 8GB of memory, a 3.5mm jack and dedicated music keys. Does the job nicely and less stuff to carry. Don't have to worry about the battery either because it's 1200mAh :)

That would suck. I twist my mp3 player when I'm listening to music.

Good old sandisk. Been taking a beating for 2.5 years lol. They need to make a touch screen.
