Acer Board Elects Stan Shih as New Chairman and Interim Corporate President

Acer announces that its Board of Directors has elected the company founder, Stan Shih, as Chairman and interim Corporate President with immediate effect. Shih shall serve as Acer's Chairman until the end of his term on the Board. Chairman & CEO J.T. Wang and Corporate President Jim Wong have both stepped down in light of the company's recent performance. The Company will hand over the Corporate Presidency to the appropriate candidate as soon as possible.

Despite their resignations, reluctantly accepted by the Board, both J.T. Wang and Jim Wong have committed to remain with Acer as advisors to ensure a smooth transition and transfer of the management team and to help the company back to stability.

Acer Introduces New, Haswell-Powered Veriton Commercial Desktops

Acer America today announced that its new Veriton Series commercial desktops are now offered with powerful 4th generation Intel Core processors, Intel's fastest and most advanced chips to date. Acer Expands C720 Chromebook Line With $199 Model

Acer America today announced the availability of a new $199.99 entry-level model in its new Acer C720 Chromebook line for budget-minded customers. Like all Acer C720 models, the Acer C720-2848 runs on an Intel Celeron processor based on the Haswell micro-architecture to deliver fast performance and up to 8.5 hours of battery life.

Acer Also Introduces the TravelMate X313 Convertible Ultrabook

PC Shipments Down 7.6% in Q3, According to IDC

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 81.6 million units in the third quarter of 2013 (3Q13). In year-on-year terms, the market contracted -7.6%, ahead of a projected decline of -9.5% for the quarter, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. While shipments remained weak during the early part of the quarter, the market was somewhat buoyed by business purchases, as well as channel intake of Windows 8.1-based systems during September.

A slight uptick in business volume contributed to shipments. The top three vendors (Lenovo, HP, and Dell), which all have an important presence in the enterprise and public sectors, each saw modest positive year-on-year growth during the quarter. Conversely, consumer sentiment remained lukewarm at best, as evidenced by the continued struggles of Acer and ASUS.

Acer Releases the Aspire ZC-605 Windows 8 All-in-One PC

Acer America has today announced the latest addition to its PC offer, the Aspire ZC-605 All-in-One. This new model runs Windows 8 and features an LED-backlit 19.5-inch (1600 x 900) display, a 1.9 GHz Pentium 2127U processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 1 TB hard drive, and a SuperMulti optical drive.

Acer's AIO also packs a 1 MP webcam, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port, and a 2-in-1 card reader. The Aspire ZC-605 costs $600 and should become available through Amazon shortly.

AMD Expands Elite Mobility APU Line-Up With New Quad-Core Processor

AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced a new addition to its 2013 Elite Mobility processor family, expanding the options available for anyone seeking crystal-clear HD entertainment, power efficiency, and accelerated performance in small screen touch notebooks, tablets, and hybrids. The AMD Elite Quad-Core A4-1350 accelerated processor is the second quad-core accelerated processing pnit (APU) in this category, with an estimated average power at or below 3 watts for many common use cases. The new APU is expected to begin shipping to customers in October, 2013. Other AMD Elite Mobility APUs are available in systems today, including the HP Pavilion11 TouchSmart and the Acer Aspire V5.

Acer C710 Chromebook Getting a CPU Upgrade

At IFA 2013 in Berlin Acer showcased an updated C710 Chromebook, a model that swaps the old, 32 nm-manufactured 1.1 GHz Celeron 847 processor for the fresher, 22 nm 1.5 GHz Celeron 1007U. Other specs remain unchanged so you still get a 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display 2 or 4 GB of RAM, either a 16 GB SSD or a 320 GB HDD, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, and a 4- or 6-cell battery.

Acer's upgraded Chrome OS-running machine has a price tag of 249 Euro and is expected to hit stores soon.

Acer Announces Availability of New 29-inch and 27-inch IPS Monitors

Acer announced a pair of new large IPS monitors, the 29-inch B296CL, and the 27-inch B276HUL (pictured in that order). The B296CL is an ultra-widescreen monitor with 21:9 aspect ratio, native resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels, while the B276HUL is a smaller 16:9 screen but features more pixels, with its native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Both displays offer 178-degree viewing angles, dynamic mega-contrast, 8 ms response times, energy efficient LED backlighting that offers up to 68 percent energy savings, and display inputs that include dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI. Interestingly, both are priced the same, at US $599.99.

Acer Announces New, Ultra-High Resolution Monitors

Acer America is now offering its three LED monitors offering ultra-high resolution and large 27- and 29-inch screens for consumers and commercial users in the United States.

Boasting high pixel density, these new monitors display brilliant images, ideal for presentations, digital photography, gaming, video and social media. In addition, the large screens make them well-suited for productivity tasks, such as working with large spreadsheets and viewing two images at once, whether it's tracking email while creating a presentation, comparing two Word documents or viewing the entire page of a website with little to no scrolling. Acer Announces Veriton Z Series 20-Inch Class AIO Desktop

Acer America today announced that its new 20-inch class Veriton Z2640G all-in-one (AIO) commercial desktop is now available for users in business, education and government. The new all-in-one desktops feature a screw-less chassis design and modular components for easy maintenance and upgrades. Removable feet and VESA wall-mount support enable these systems to be hung on the wall to save space, while a flexible frame that tilts from 6 to 60 degrees can be adjusted for maximum viewing comfort. Acer C7 Chromebook Line Expanded for Education, Business Customers

Acer America today announced that it has expanded its line of Acer C7 Chromebook models for its commercial customers, including schools and businesses that need reliable, fast and affordable technology for their students and work forces. The two new models both have a fast 16GB Solid State Drives (SSDs), which enhance boot times and access to apps, as well as a 6-cell battery that delivers up to 6-hour battery life for all-day learning and productivity.
