During keynote presentations today at the Intel Developer Forum, Intel Corporation executives outlined several software- and hardware-related efforts as the company intensifies its System-on-a-Chip (SoC) product plans based on the Intel Atom processor family.

Acer rolled a new variant of its recently released Aspire One D255 netbook called "Happy". The D255 Happy features a pleasant looking white and olive-green color scheme on its body. Other than this, it's the same exact on the inside as the Aspire One D255. The netbook makes use of Intel's new Atom N550 dual-core processor, has a 10.1" 1024x600 display, 1 GB of DDR3 memory, integrated GMA 3150 graphics, 250 GB HDD. Connectivity includes 10/100 Ethernet, and WiFi b/g/n. Other features include a 4-in-1 memory card reader, webcam, a multigesture touchpad, and a 6-cell, 8-hour battery. There is no word on the pricing, but we don't see why it shouldn't carry the same price as the other D255s, that's $399.

Acer's first netbook based on the new Intel Atom N550 dual-core processor, the Aspire One D255 went on sale, priced at US $399. The 10.1-inch netbook has a display with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, making use of the 1.5 GHz dual-core HTT-enabled processor with 1 GB of DDR3 memory, integrated graphics, and 250 GB of storage. Connectivity features include 10/100 Ethernet, and WiFi b/g/n. Other features include a 4-in-1 memory card reader, multigesture touchpad, and a 6-cell battery that ensures 8 hours of operation. Windows 7 Starter comes pre-installed. The D255 comes with four color options: red, black, Aquamarine, and Sandstone.

Backed by industry support of the Intel Atom processor optimized for networked storage appliances for the home and small business, Intel Corporation has added two new Intel Atom processors to further boost the company's focus on the platform.

Since Intel's initial foray in this area in March, leading storage manufacturers, including Acer, Cisco, LaCie, LG Electronics, NETGEAR, QNAP, Super Micro, Synology and Thecus have announced products based on the energy-efficient Intel Atom processor platform.

Acer is planning to release its new S222HQL display at the IFA Berlin 2010 event this September. This 21.5" display sports a super-slim design that's aided by its LED-backlit illumination. At its thickest point, the display is just 12.9 mm thick. The display is Full HD ready, with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, it has a dynamic contrast ratio thanks to its LED backlit at 12,000,000:1, with 2 ms response time. The maximum brightness is 250 cd/m². Inputs include DVI and HDMI. There is no word on its pricing or availability.

Building on the success of its ultra-slim and award winning Full HD LED display series, Acer expands the S3 series with the new S273HL LCD, the epitome of sophisticated design and top-notch performance endowed with cutting-edge technologies such as ultra-fast response time, stunning contrast ratio (12,000,000:1), two HDMI port and an ample 69 cm (27") panel.

The Acer S273HL LCD monitor flaunts a razor-thin depth of 21mm, creating a minimalist, professional look. It is encased in a classy black bezel and features a unique asymmetrical shape. Adding form to the elegantly simple design is a cylinder hinge on the rear and an L-shaped base with brushed-metal finish, accented by an LED light that glows in soft blue when the power is turned on. Acer is readying a stylish new netbook in its Aspire One series, the D255. This 10.1 inch netbook has a 1024x600 pixel LED-backlit CrystalBrite display, and is powered by the Intel Atom N550 processor clocked at 1.50 GHz. The D255 uses the same chassis design as the D260, except for the different processor. The processor is aided with 1 GB of memory, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, 250 GB storage, a 6-cell battery to keep it powered up, and connectivity which includes 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth. There is no word on the pricing.

Acer is expanding its Aspire One line of netbooks with an interesting new addition that features a yet to be announced AMD processor with an incredibly low TDP by AMD's standards. The Aspire One 521 features an AMD V105 "Geneva" single-core processor with a TDP of 9W, which operates at 1.2 GHz, which is expected to be based on the AMD K10 architecture. The 10.1 inch netbook has DDR3 memory, integrated ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics, and connectivity which includes Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, and gigabit Ethernet. The halting of production of Acer's ultra-thin notebooks, and disappointing sales from all notebook manufacturers for this market segment has prompted Intel to wait until the third quarter to release its new line of Atom processors. Sources interviewed by DigiTimes hint that the release date may be pushed back even further if demand is not high enough by Q3. Notebook manufactures say that ultra-thin notebooks accounted for only 10-15% of their sales for 2009 instead of the predicted 20-30%.

Acer's upcoming Aspire TimelineX 1830T ultra-slim notebook based on the Intel Calpella platform is closer to release with press-images making it to the public domain. The new 11.6 inch notebook uses an Intel Core i5 520UM dual-core processor with integrated graphics, with clock-speed of 1.06 GHz. It is aided by 2 GB of DDR3 memory, and a HDD with over 160 GB of storage. It has a 11.6 inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, integrated web-camera, a typically-sized keyboard. Connectivity options include gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and HSDPA (optional), HDMI display output, and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. Apart from the usual number of USB ports and audio connectors, the notebook features a multi-format card reader. The Aspire TimelineX 1830T will be released later this month.

Without making much noise, Acer introduced its new D241H LCD monitor. This one stands out of being yet another 24" HD-ready PC display, in having its own instant-on operating system, and WiFi. Its built in OS lets you do some very basic tasks such as web-browsing, media playback (music and videos), and browsing through photos, without needing a PC. It can connect to the internet over both wired Ethernet and WiFi. As a monitor, the 24-inch panel has a native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels with a response time of 2 ms, and dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1. Display inputs include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. Other accessories built into it include a 2-port USB 2.0 hub and a multi-format memory card reader - both of which are of use to its OS, and can also be used by the PC it's connected to. Alas for what this 'monitor' is trying to be, a built-in webcam, and speakers are missing (standard issue on many premium displays). Pricing and availability are not known as yet.
