ASUS Unveils the Prime X299 Edition 30 and Prime Utopia Concept Desktop

ASUS is commemorating its 30th year in the motherboard industry with the Prime X299 Edition 30 motherboard and Prime Utopia reference desktop platform. The Prime X299 Edition 30 is a premium LGA2066 motherboard with support for Core i9-9000X series processors out of the box. It is based on a familiar-looking PCB layout, mated to a new mostly-white composite heatsink/shroud over the rear I/O, the M.2 slots, and the chipset heatsink. The VRM heatsink is active and has a concealed 40 mm spinner ventilating the metal. Three each of PCI-Express 3.0 x16 and M.2 NVMe slots, an integrated rear I/O shield, premium connectivity that includes 802.11ac WLAN, and a high-end onboard audio solution, make for the rest of it.

The Prime Utopia is something else. It's a concept high-end desktop built around a motherboard that has slots, headers, ports, and connectors on both sides of the PCB. Its "obverse side," if you can call it that, has a shroud that conceals the memory slots, most controllers, chipset, and a 7-inch USB display that puts out real-time system monitoring data, or pretty much anything you want it to display. The CPU socket is on the other side of the PCB, and the processor and CPU VRM are liquid-cooled. An angled PCI-Express slot holds the graphics card along the plane of the motherboard. It all comes together on a CM Cosmos-like chassis frame that lets you show the innards off.

Cooler Master Unveils V Gold and Platinum PSU Series

Cooler Master Unclutters the PSU PCB with XG Series

Cooler Master this CES unveiled the XG-series Gold Advanced power-supply series. The company has re-imagined the various components that go into building a standards-compliant modern PC power-supply that's also feature rich in efficiency and protections. The XG series PCB gets rid of many of the components PSU designers would add as redundancies to compensate for lower quality, and switch to fewer but higher quality components. The company has also incorporated DC-to-DC switching to get rid of separate switching stages for lower voltage domains such as +5V and 3.3V. The new XG-series PSU PCB also features fewer but higher capacity wiring. The biggest dividend would be improved airflow within the PSU, which could be traded in for lower fan speeds and lower noise. Pictured below is a 750-Watt model compared to the PCB from one of Cooler Master's older generation 750 W 80 Plus Gold-level PSUs. Harsh steel alloy surfaces make way for lightweight acrylic panels held by steel frames. The company will launch this sometime in May.

Cooler Master Case Lineup for CES 2019 Detailed

Cooler Master has a formidable presence at this year's CES, with the company unveiling 7 new cases. These include co-branding iterations of existing case models with the likes of ASRock Phantom Gaming and ASUS TUF Gaming Alliance. The MasterBox Q300L from last year gets TUF Gaming Alliance bodywork, which includes variations to the front panel mesh, streaks of TUF yellow, and a matte-black (somewhat gunmetal) finish for the metal bits. The ASRock Phantom Gaming renditions of the MasterBox K500 and MasterCase H500P Mesh swap out plain silver with chrome-like shades of brighter silver metallic finish, with red accents, a few more crease lines, and ASRock's favorite shade of red illuminating the fans, out of the box. This keeps up with the design scheme of ASRock Phantom Gaming series motherboards.

The new MasterBox NR400 and NR600 ATX introduce a new direction in which Cooler Master is taking its case designs - matte black, with very few creases or accents, and a subtle contrasting gray opaque band running across the mesh. The NR600 ATX is a conventional tower with a horizontally partitioned layout. The NR400 is a micro-ATX tower with a similar layout as its bigger sibling. Lastly, there are the MasterBox Q500L and Q500P, which are stretched out variations of the Q300 series, and designed for ATX builds, while retaining the cube-like appearance of their predecessors.
