Cooler Master Enters the Mouse Mat Market, Releases MP860 RGB Gaming Mousepad

Cooler Master is extending its reach in the peripherals/accessory market with a weighty entry into the mousepad market. The Cooler Master MP860 RGB Gaming Mousepad does a good job of describing its form and function: it's a mousepad with RGB lighting capabilities. An RGB strip with 19 color spots lights around the mousepad in user-configurable neons, and sips power and configuration data (including pairing with other RGB hardware users may have) through a USB 3.0 port. Cooler Master managed to keep the RGB controllers and whatnots to a slim level, though, with none of the bulky protrusions usually found in other mousepad RGB solutions.

The MP860 RGB Gaming Mousepad features a dual-sided design with cloth and anodized aluminum. Dimensions are set at 360 x 260 x 6 to 10mm. The MP860 will be available in the UK starting next month for £79.99.

AMD 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper MCM Configuration Confirmed, More Details

Tech Day slides leaked to the web by Kitguru provide a confirmation of how AMD is wiring out the additional two dies on the 24-core and 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 2000-series MCMs on the socket TR4 platform. We had speculated that because the quad-channel DDR4 memory and PCIe interfaces are wired to two diagonally-opposite dies on AMD X399 chipset motherboards; in the interest of backwards compatibility, AMD could wire out memory and PCIe from just two out of four dies on the multi-chip module, and have the two additional dies seek memory and PCIe over the InfinityFabric interfaces.

The obvious trade-offs with this design choice is that latencies to the dies with indirect memory/PCIe access are higher, and that reflects heavily in AMD's own performance figures for comparing the 32-core 2990WX with the 16-core 2950X from the same generation. The 2990WX is "only" up to 64 percent faster than 2950X at Cinebench R15 nT, despite having double the number of cores. To its credit, the 2950X has higher clock-speeds (3.50 GHz nominal with 4.40 GHz boost) than the 2990WX (3.00 GHz nominal with 4.00 GHz boost). The presentation also puts out interesting bits of information such as AMD's own performance numbers showing 10-15 percent performance gains between the 2950X and the 1950X; and performance gains of the 2990WX over Intel Core i9-7980XE.

Cooler Master Also Intros MasterBox MB500 TUF Gaming Edition Case

In addition to rolling out TUF Gaming Alliance variants of the MA410M and MA620P coolers, Cooler Master unveiled the MasterBox MB500 TUF Gaming case. A variant of the original MB500 launched in April, the case incorporates several design elements of ASUS' new brand. To begin with, the upper half of the front panel, and the left side panel features the urban camo pattern characteristic of TUF Gaming. The right side panel is printed with a large TUF emblem, along with a few design lines from the original. Although the fans support RGB multi-color lighting, out of the box, they run at a pale military green color (we wonder why it isn't yellow). The rest of its feature-set is identical to the original. The company didn't reveal pricing, but mentioned that the case could go on sale on the 26th of July.

Cooler Master Intros TUF Gaming Alliance Variants of MA410M and MA620P Coolers

Cooler Master rolled out TUF Gaming Alliance variants of two of its recently launched MasterAir series CPU coolers, the MA410M and MA620P, suffixed with "TUF Edition." The MA410M TUF Edition features the urban camo insert along its top-plate, and yellow accents. The MA620P TUF Edition features a matte black top-plate with black heat-pipe caps; and a more restrained TUF urban camo print, with yellow accents. Both coolers feature variants of the MF120 fans that have yellow silicone dampeners along the mount holes of the frame; and a TUF Gaming Alliance logo on the impeller's hub. The company didn't reveal pricing.

AMD Marries Cooler Master for Wraith Ripper: Threadripper 2-Designed Mega Cooler

AMD has partnered with Cooler Master to deliver a Threadripper 2-specific cooler. Dubbed the Wraith Ripper (as per AMD's Wraith stock coolers and their Threadripper 2, up to 32-core, 64-thread HCC CPUs), this is a behemoth of a mega cooler that can dissipate Threadripper 2's (perhaps theThreadripper 2990X's) 250 W TDP.

The cooler features addressable RGB lighting that can be app-controlled, and Cooler Master says this cooler has been designed to offer full memory compatibility. The height between the baseplate and the heatsink's fins does seem tall and tidy for the tallest RAM sticks you can find, for sure - even with the eight pairs of heatpipes that drive the heat away from your most precious silicon component. Check our COMPUTEX 2018 pics of this behemoth below.
