Also fixed is a bug that causes games to stutter if the overlay GPU metrics are stuck at 0%; the full range of available display refresh-rates not being exposed on some monitors; and NVIDIA container service exhibiting unusually high CPU utilization.

NVIDIA Announces Project G-Assist: An AI Chatbot that's Situationally Aware of Your Game

Imagine you're playing a game, you're stuck somewhere, don't know how to craft something, can't manage your inventory, or need to get out of some tricky puzzle. You normally pause and minimize your game, pull up a web-browser, and sift through dozens of search results to find the right Wiki or community thread that solves your problem. Wouldn't it be great, if you could pull up an in-game chat window and interact with an AI chat assistant (not unlike ChatGPT), except, the assistant is situationally aware of your entire game-state? That is NVIDIA Project G-Assist.

NVIDIA is training an AI on the vast ocean of information from the Internet on the countless games there are. You will soon be able to pull up an AI chat assistant, and will be able to either give it a text or natural voice input on how you want it to help you in the situation of the game you're in, and it will be able to guide you. G-Assist will not play the game for you, just give you precise and concise answers based on your game state (something no Google search or game wiki can). Besides assisting your gameplay, G-Assist will also help you with performance optimization and system tuning, the way the NVIDIA App and GeForce Experience already do.

The GeForce 555.85 WHQL drivers also add GeForce Experience or NVIDIA App optimal settings for Bellwright, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, Homeworld 3, and
Infection Free Zone. The list of newly validated G-SYNC compatible displays grows with 11 new display models spanning ASUS, Dell, Philips, IO-Data, and LG. Among the issues fixed with this release include a random crash during gameplay with Tekken 8 on GTX 10-series "Pascal" graphics cards; a lower-than-expected GPU utilization with Horizon Forbidden West when Reflex is used in conjunction with Boost; and a bug with Blender Cycles that causes motion blur to incorrectly render on some GPU generations. Grab the drivers from the link below.

NVIDIA App Doesn't Need a Login, Unlike GeForce Experience

We found out that the new NVIDIA App doesn't need an NVIDIA Account login, and yet gives you nearly all of its functionality. NVIDIA today rolled out the GeForce 551.61 WHQL drivers, and with it, the new NVIDIA App, as we detailed in the driver's news report. NVIDIA App is the company's latest take on a Control Panel application that combines the functionality of the over 20-year-old NVIDIA Control Panel Win32 application, and the modern GeForce Experience app (GFE). The former focuses on settings related to the display head, with one or more settings for the GPU, but has no hardware monitoring or performance overlay features. GFE is more of a concentric outer layer focused on the games installed in your PC, to which you can figure out and apply optimal settings. The new NVIDIA App essentially combines the functionalities of the two, but it has an ace up its sleeve—you don't need an NVIDIA Account to use it.

One of the biggest drawbacks of GeForce Experience is that it mandates you to create an NVIDIA Account, and keeps you logged into this account to use its functionality. Not everyone wants an app that does this; and so some gamers would want to skip installation of GFE altogether during the GeForce driver installation. NVIDIA App takes a refreshingly different approach. It is currently a public beta, isn't part of the driver package, isn't found on Microsoft Store, but is being distributed as a standalone app with its own installer.

NVIDIA Reveals Some RT and DLSS Statistics

Following the launch of the new GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4070, NVIDIA has revealed some numbers regarding the usage of ray tracing (RT) and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Bear in mind that these numbers only come from those users that are willing to share their data with GeForce Experience, so they do not show the complete picture, but, on the other hand, they show a rise in adoption rate. Of course, the number of games supporting RT and DLSS has risen over the last few years.

According to NVIDIA, 83 percent of users running on RTX 40 series graphics cards enabled RT, and 79 percent enabled DLSS. On the RTX 30 series, 56 percent of users enable ray tracing and 71 percent enabled DLSS. According to NVIDIA, the numbers were much lower for users running on RTX 20 series back in 2018, where 37 percent users enable RT and 26 percent of them enable DLSS.

NVIDIA Issues Performance Fix For Windows 11 22H2 Update

If you're running Windows 11 and installed the 22H2 update that was released recently, you might've noticed poor performance in games or some applications that rely on your NVIDIA graphics card. NVIDIA has released a fix that should resolve these issues and you can find a link to it below, where you can find an update for the GeForce Experience, which in turn will apply the patch. Exactly what caused these performance issues is unclear and NVIDIA hasn't provided any explanation as to what their fix resolves. This is currently a beta release, but NVIDIA is expecting to release a proper version later this week.

NVIDIA Announces Updated Open-Source Image Scaling SDK

For the past two years, NVIDIA has offered a driver-based spatial upscaler called NVIDIA Image Scaling and Sharpening, for all your games, that didn't require game or SDK integrations to work. With the new November GeForce Game Ready Driver, we have improved the scaling and sharpening algorithm to now use a 6-tap filter with 4 directional scaling and adaptive sharpening filters to boost performance. And we have also added an in-game sharpness slider, accessible via GeForce Experience, so you can do real-time customizations to sharpness.

In contrast to NVIDIA DLSS, the algorithm is non-AI and non-temporal, using only information from the current low resolution image rendered by the game as an input. While the resulting image quality is best-in-class in comparison to scaling offered by monitors or other in-game scaling techniques, it lacks the temporal data and AI smarts of DLSS, which are required to deliver native resolution detail and robust frame-to-frame stability. By combining both NVIDIA DLSS and NVIDIA Image Scaling, the developer gets the best of both worlds: NVIDIA DLSS for the best image quality, and NVIDIA Image Scaling for cross-platform support. You can read how to enable the feature for any game down below.

TechPowerUp NVCleanstall 1.10.0 Released

TechPowerUp today released the latest version of NVCleanstall, our handy, lightweight utility that lets you customize your NVIDIA drivers installation to a much greater degree than the "Custom" install option in the NVIDIA Installer, letting you toggle components and features you didn't even know exist. The latest version 1.10.0 introduces several updates. For starters, it fixes ShadowPlay not working (even though selected), due to a missing reference to NvModuleTracker. We've introduced an additional driver signing mode that's compatible with EasyAntiCheat. NVCleanstall now discards the generated private key once the signature rebuild is complete, for additional security.

We've introduced a feature that lets you create a self-contained EXE installer with the installation options you've selected. The option to disable NVContainer has been introduced, however, this may break GeForce Experience, and removes NVIDIA's Desktop context menu. You can configure MSI (message-signaled-interrupt) CPU selection and priority. NVCleanstall also makes sure MSI only gets activated on NVIDIA GPU devices. An option has been added letting you disable HDCP. The app now warns you that UWP apps can't be installed in Safe Mode, if you request the Control Panel app while running in Safe Mode. The app also warns about installation of GeForce Experience in Safe Mode. Both these limitations are due to Safe Mode, not NVCleanstall. When customizing your install, you can now also provide hooks to run programs before and after installation. Grab NVCleanstall from the link below.
