NVIDIA DLSS 3 Comes to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and Red Dead Redemption This Week

More than 600 games and applications feature RTX technologies, and each week new games integrating NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex and advanced ray-traced effects are released or announced, delivering the definitive PC experience for GeForce RTX players. This week, there's a ton of new releases and announcements, so let's dive on in. Following the launch of several great DLSS games last week, this week sees Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and Red Dead Redemption all launch with DLSS. And Torque Drift 2 is adding support for DLSS 3 Frame Generation.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Launches October 31st With DLSS 3, Reflex & Ray Tracing

At 2560x1440, DLSS 3's AI powered tech increases Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered's frame rates by an average of 1.5X, enabling every GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU to play with maxed out settings at over 80 FPS. It probably will still be helpful, for example, boosting my 3070 to above 60 fps when running RDR2 at "4k".

We are not talking about RDR2. Recommended Specs for the first one are way lower.

DLSS3... article is fine, but here's why running some of these settings is bad
(i.e. DA Veilguard, RTX4060, performance DLSS, 1080p)
a) if a game gets about "70FPS" after Frame Gen then the responsiveness is just under what you'd get at 35FPS (real frames are exactly HALF since you interpolate every other one)
b) "Performance" mode is "50%" of native resolution (25% of the pixels) so at 1080p native it is only rendering at 960x540 thus will introduce lots of artifacts

So I appreciate the work put into these tests, but people who are a little ignorant of how this all works need to educate themselves. Don't simply crank settings to ULTRA and then apply upscaling and frame gen. It's a balancing act people will need to experiment with.
Generally speaking, turn off ray-tracing if below an RTX4080. Turn off Frame Gen (to start). Aim for normal 60FPS or so and balance your settings visually to get there and only THEN should you experiment. Your CPU will also be a big factor on whether Frame Gen helps much.

So Frame Generation at "80FPS" can look visually pretty smooth on your GSync/Freesync monitor but gameplay can feel sluggish. With my RTX4070 I tend to aim for around 80FPS+ without Frame Gen and adjust the quality settings to get there. Others may prefer something else.

Frame Generation is here to stay, but personally with my RTX4070 + R7-5700X3D I haven't encountered a scenario where it made sense. If I can get a normal 80FPS then managed to get as high as "120FPS" I don't personally see a huge difference in visual smoothness but the game is more sluggish (as it's now just below 60FPS for lag). At the expense of being more sluggish with slightly worse visual quality (visuals worse, smoothness... better?). I guess for faster paced games going from, say, 100FPS-> "200FPS" might be ideal assuming the hardware is efficient and doesn't cost many "real" frames? (i.e. could have gotten 140FPS without FG?) Chacun son gout.

So to ME, Frame Gen really only makes a lot of sense once it's so EFFICIENT that the cost to real frames (and visual fidelity) is minimal (i.e. 55FPS-> "100FPS").
