Intel Core i5-13600K and Core i7-13700K QS CPUs Benchmarked

Is there anything better than yet another benchmark leak of upcoming products? This time around we don't have to make do with Geekbench or some other useless benchmark, as a bilibili user in the PRC has posted a video where he has put the upcoming Intel Core i5-13600K and Core i7-13700K CPUs through 10 different games, plus 3DMark Fire Strike and Time Spy. This has been done at 1080p, 1440p and 2160p at that, using a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card. Both CPUs are QS or Qualification Samples, which means they're going to be close to identical to retail chips, unless there are some last minute issues that are discovered. The CPUs were tested using an ASRock Z690 Steel Legends WiFi 6E motherboard, well, two actually, as both a DDR4 and a DDR5 version were used. The DDR4 RAM was running at 3600 MHz with slow-ish timings of 18-22-22 in gear 1, whereas the DDR5 memory was running at 5200 MHz, most likely at 40-40-40 timings, although the modules were rated for 6400 MHz, in both cases we're looking at 32 GB.

Courtesy of @harukaze5719, we have some much easier to read graphs than those provided by the person that tested the two CPUs, but we've included the full graphs below as well. Each CPU was compared to its current SKU equivalent from Intel and in many of the games tested, the gain was a mere percent or less to three or four percent. However, in some games—at specific resolutions—especially when paired with DDR5 memory, the performance gain was as much as 15-20 percent. A few of the games tested, such as FarCry 6 at 4K, the game ends up being GPU limited, so a faster CPU doesn't help here as you'll see in the graphs below. There are some odd results as well, where the DDR5 equipped systems saw a regression in performance, so it's hard to draw any final conclusions from this test. That said, both CPUs should offer a decent performance gain, as long as the game in question isn't GPU limited, of around five percent at 1440p when paired with DDR5 memory.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Could Be Delayed Due to Flood of Used RTX 30 Series GPUs

However, the latest information from the YouTube channel "Moore's Law Is Dead" suggests that NVIDIA could postpone the arrival of the new GPU generation to December. Why, you might be wondering? The report claims that the current GPU market is flooded with used GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. Thus, NVIDIA could postpone the availability of the latest GPUs to keep the demand high and ensure that the market is searching for additional graphics cards.

Retailers are experiencing smaller demand as the used GPU market is full of devices used for cryptocurrency mining, and the recent crypto crash has helped the situation. What we could see is NVIDIA announcing Ada Lovelace GPUs in October, with availability arriving later in December. Of course, these are just the current industry rumors, and we are yet to see how the market and NVIDIA will respond.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 Set To Launch Tomorrow

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 is set to be officially unveiled tomorrow as a successor to the GTX 1050 Ti with Colorful already listing one such model on their website. The GTX 1630 will be an entry-level card featuring a TU117-150 GPU with 512 CUDA cores running at 1785 MHz paired with 4 GB of GDDR6 memory on a 64-bit memory bus for a total bandwidth of 96 GB/s. The leaked Colorful GTX 1630 BattleAx features a dual-fan cooling solution, triple display connectors, and an additional 6-pin power input essentially copying the company's GTX 1650 model. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 will be available from multiple board partners when it launches tomorrow and could reportedly retail for ~150 USD according to some Chinese retailers.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Dragon Range and Phoenix Mobile Processor Specifications Leak

AMD is preparing to update its mobile sector with the latest IP in the form of Zen4 CPU cores and RDNA3 graphics. According to Red Gaming Tech, we have specifications of upcoming processor families. First, we have AMD Dragon Range mobile processors representing a downsized Raphael design for laptops. Carrying Zen4 CPU cores and RDNA2 integrated graphics, these processors are meant to power high-performance laptops with up to 16 cores and 32 threads. Being a direct competitor to Intel's Alder Lake-HX, these processors also carry an interesting naming convention. The available SKUs include AMD Ryzen 5 7600HX, Ryzen 7 7800HX, Ryzen 9 7900HX, and Ryzen 9 7980HX design with a massive 16-core configuration. These CPUs are envisioned to run along with more powerful dedicated graphics, with clock speeds of 4.8-5.0+ GHz.

Next, we have AMD Phoenix processors, which take Dragon Range's design to a higher level thanks to the newer graphics IP. Having Zen4 cores, Phoenix processors carry upgraded RDNA3 graphics chips to provide a performance level similar to NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q SKU, all in one package. These APUs will come in four initial configurations: Ryzen 5 7600HS, Ryzen 7 7800HS, Ryzen 9 7900HS, and Ryzen 9 7980HS. While maxing out at eight cores, these APUs will compensate with additional GPU compute units with a modular chiplet design. AMD Phoenix is set to become AMD's first chiplet design launching for the laptop market, and we can expect more details as we approach the launch date.

Intel's Arc A380 Performs Even Worse With an AMD CPU

According to fresh benchmark numbers from someone on bilibili, Intel's Arc A380 cards perform even worse when paired with an AMD CPU compared to when paired with an Intel CPU. The card was tested using an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 on an ASUS TUF B550M motherboard paired with 16 GB of DDR4 3600 MHz memory. The Intel system it was tested against consisted of a Core i5-12400 on an ASUS TUF B660M motherboard with the same type of memory. Both test systems had resizable BAR support set to auto and above 4G decoding enabled. Windows 11 21H2 was also installed on both systems.

In every single game out of the 10 games tested, except League of Legends, the AMD system was behind the Intel system by anything from a mere one percent to as much as 15 percent. The worst performance disadvantage was in Forza Horizon 5 and Total War Three Kingdoms, both were 14 to 15 percent behind. The games that were tested, in order of the graph below are: League of Legends, Dota 2, Rainbow 6 Extraction, Watch Dogs Legions, Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Total War Three Kingdoms, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, CS:GO and Forza Horizon 5. For comparison, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 was also used, but only tested on the Intel based system and the Arc A380 only beat it on Total War Three Kingdoms, albeit by a seven percent margin. It appears Intel has a lot of work to do when it comes to its drivers, but at last right now, mixing Intel Arc graphics cards and AMD processors seems to be a bad idea.

NiceHash Unlocks 90% of LHRv3 Restriction for NVIDIA GPUs

NiceHash, one of the largest mining software providers in the world, has today announced that the company had updated its QuickHash miner with the capability to unlock 90% of the performance for NVIDIA's Lite Hash Rate (LHR) version 3. Currently, there are only two cards available with LHRv3 on the market, and those are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB version and RTX 3050, which are limited in the software to have poor hash rate when mining. This is done to get these cards away from the hands of miners and into the hands of consumers. However, engineers working at NiceHash have presented QuickMiner v0.5.4.2 Release Candidate, which unlocks 90% of that LHRv3 capability.

Previously, the company has already presented its work and enabled 100% unlock for LHRv2 cards and has now almost the entire stack covered. It is a matter of time before LHRv3 unlock goes up to 100%. NiceHash advises using NVIDIA driver version 512.15 or higher to get the latest unlock. Some stability issues have been fixed in the release, so users will experience no BSODs upon running the mining software.

AMD Claims Higher FPS/$ Radeon GPU Value Over NVIDIA Offerings

Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions & Marketing at AMD, has posted an interesting slide on Twitter, claiming that AMD Radeon products possess higher FPS/$ value than NVIDIA's graphics offerings. According to the slide, AMD Radeon graphics cards are the best solutions for gamers looking at performance per dollar ratings and performance per watt. This means that AMD claims that Radeon products are inherently higher-value products than NVIDIA's offerings while also more efficient. As the chart shows, which you can see below, some AMD Radeon cards are offering up to 89% better FPS/$ value with up to 123% better FPS/Watt metric. This highest rating is dedicated to Radeon RX 6400 GPU; however, there are all GPUs included in comparison with up to the latest Radeon RX 6950 XT SKU.

Compared to TechPowerUp's own testing of AMD's Radeon cards and multiple reviews calculating the performance per dollar metric, we could not see numbers as high as AMD's. This means that AMD's marketing department probably uses a different selection of games that may perform better on AMD Radeon cards than NVIDIA GeForce RTX. Of course, as with any company marketing material, you should take it with a grain of salt, so please check some of our reviews for a non-biased comparison.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Twice as Fast as RTX 3090, Features 16128 CUDA Cores and 450W TDP

NVIDIA's next-generation GeForce RTX 40 series of graphics cards, codenamed Ada Lovelace, is shaping up to be a powerful graphics card lineup. Allegedly, we can expect to see a mid-July launch of NVIDIA's newest gaming offerings, where customers can expect some impressive performance. According to a reliable hardware leaker, kopite7kimi, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card will feature AD102-300 GPU SKU. This model is equipped with 126 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs), which brings the total number of FP32 CUDA cores to 16128. Compared to the full AD102 GPU with 144 SMs, this leads us to think that there will be an RTX 4090 Ti model following up later as well.

Paired with 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory, the RTX 4090 graphics card has a TDP of 450 Watts. While this number may appear as a very power-hungry design, bear in mind that the targeted performance improvement over the previous RTX 3090 model is expected to be a two-fold scale. Paired with TSMC's new N4 node and new architecture design, performance scaling should follow at the cost of higher TDPs. These claims are yet to be validated by real-world benchmarks of independent tech media, so please take all of this information with a grain of salt and wait for TechPowerUp reviews once the card arrives.

ASUS Releases GeForce RTX 3080 Noctua OC Edition 10 GB GDDR6X

Only a week ago the first pictures of the ASUS x Noctua GeForce RTX 3080 card turned up on the web and now the card has been officially announced as the ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 Noctua OC Edition 10 GB GDDR6X. The card will have an OC and a Gaming mode with different boost clocks, where the Gaming mode allows the GPU to boost to 1785 MHz and the OC mode takes this further to 1815 MHz. The memory remains at stock clocks and uses 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory. ASUS claims it's the quietest card in its class, but doesn't mention any actual noise levels, although the card comes with a 0dB fan stop mode. It should be noted that the card takes up 4.1 slots and as such, it might not fit in all builds. No official pricing was provided.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gets Custom 890 Watt XOC BIOS

Extreme overclocking is an enthusiast discipline where overclockers try to push their hardware to extreme limits. AMD Radeon RX 6950XT Beats GeForce RTX 3090 Ti in 3DMark TimeSpy

We are nearing the arrival of AMD's Radeon RX 6x50XT graphics card refresh series, and benchmarks are starting to appear. Today, we received a 3DMark TimeSpy benchmark of the AMD Radeon RX 6950XT GPU and compared it to existing solutions. More notably, we compared it to NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and came to a surprise. The Radeon RX 6950XT GPU scored 22209 points in the 3DMark TimeSpy test and looking at Graphics score, while the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU scored 20855 points in the same test. Of course, we have to account that 3DMark TimeSpy is a synthetic benchmark and tends to perform very well on AMD RDNA2 hardware, so we have to wait and see for official independent testing like TechPowerUp's reviews.

AMD Radeon RX 6950XT card was tested with Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU paired with DDR4-3600 memory and pre-released 22.10-220411n drivers on Windows 10. We could experience higher graphics scores with final drivers and see better performance of the upcoming refreshed SKUs.

NVIDIA Allegedly Testing a 900 Watt TGP Ada Lovelace AD102 GPU

With the release of Hopper, NVIDIA's cycle of new architecture releases is not yet over. Later this year, we expect to see next-generation gaming architecture codenamed Ada Lovelace. According to a well-known hardware leaker for NVIDIA products, @kopite7kimi, on Twitter, the green team is reportedly testing a potent variant of the upcoming AD102 SKU. As the leak indicates, we could see an Ada Lovelace AD102 SKU with a Total Graphics Power (TGP) of 900 Watts. While we don't know where this SKU is supposed to sit in the Ada Lovelace family, it could be the most powerful, Titan-like design making a comeback. Alternatively, this could be a GeForce RTX 4090 Ti SKU. It carries 48 GB of GDDR6X memory running at 24 Gbps speeds alongside monstrous TGP. Feeding the card are two 16-pin connectors.

Another confirmation from the leaker is that the upcoming RTX 4080 GPU uses the AD103 SKU variant, while the RTX 4090 uses AD102. For further information, we have to wait a few more months and see what NVIDIA decides to launch in the upcoming generation of gaming-oriented graphics cards.

Encoding video is one of the significant tasks that modern hardware performs. Today, we have some data of AMD and NVIDIA solutions for the problem that shows how good GPU hardware encoders are. Thanks to Chips and Cheese tech media, we have information about AMD's Video Core Next (VCN) encoder found in RDNA2 GPUs and NVIDIA's NVENC (short for NVIDIA Encoder). The site managed to benchmark AMD's Radeon RX 6900 XT and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPUs. The AMD card features VCN 3.0, while the NVIDIA Turing card features a 6th generation NVENC design. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090/4080 to Feature up to 24 GB of GDDR6X Memory and 600 Watt Board Power

After the data center-oriented Hopper architecture launch, NVIDIA is slowly preparing to transition the consumer section to new, gaming-focused designs codenamed Ada Lovelace. For starters, the source claims that NVIDIA is using the upcoming GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU as a test run for the next-generation Ada Lovelace AD102 GPU. Thanks to the authorities over at Igor's Lab, we have some additional information about the upcoming lineup. We have a sneak peek of a few features regarding the top-end GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 GPU SKUs. According to Igor's claims, NVIDIA is testing the PCIe Gen5 power connector and wants to see how it fares with the biggest GA102 SKU - GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

Additionally, we find that the AD102 GPU is supposed to be pin-compatible with GA102. This means that the number of pins located on GA102 is the same as what we are going to see on AD102. There are 12 places for memory modules on the AD102 reference design board, resulting in up to 24 GB of GDDR6X memory. As much as 24 voltage converters surround the GPU, NVIDIA will likely implement uP9512 SKU. It can drive eight phases, resulting in three voltage converters per phase, ensuring proper power delivery. The total board power (TBP) is likely rated at up to 600 Watts, meaning that the GPU, memory, and power delivery combined output 600 Watts of heat. Igor notes that board partners will bundle 12+4 (12VHPWR) to four 8-pin (PCIe old) converters to enable PSU compatibility.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 512.15 Game Ready Drivers

NVIDIA has recently released their latest GeForce 512.15 Game Ready drivers adding optimizations for Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Shadow Warrior 3 in addition to bringing DLAA to three new titles and supporting 11 new G-SYNC Compatible Displays. This Game Ready Driver adds day-0 support for Ghostwire: Tokyo featuring ray-traced reflections and NVIDIA DLSS support for up to a 2x performance boost. The drivers also see the introduction of NVIDIA DLAA support for Chorus, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and No Man's Sky which can improve image quality at native resolution.

The list of G-SYNC Compatible Displays has been extended with the addition of 11 new models from Acer, ASUS, AOC, I-O DATA,MSI, Phillips, and ViewSonic. NVIDIA has also added GeForce Experience's Optimal Settings support to six new games including Elden Ring, Expeditions: Rome, Mortal Online 2, Shadow Warrior 3, Sifu, and Total War: Warhammer III. NVIDIA Reportedly Preparing GeForce NOW RTX 3080 Tier One Month Subscriptions

NVIDIA appears to be preparing to launch a one month subscription option for their highest RTX 3080 tier of GeForce NOW. The RTX 3080 tier is currently only available as a 6 month subscription for 99.99 USD ($16.67/month) but according to marketing material obtained by VideoCardz the release of a monthly option should be imminent. The slide didn't contain any pricing information for the subscription but it would likely be a higher cost possibly 20 USD a month. The RTX 3080 tier offers a higher maximum resolution of 1440p (4K when used with NVIDIA Shield TV) and frame rate of 120 FPS for game sessions up to 8 hours long.

Update Mar 11th: NVIDIA has now officially launched GeForce NOW RTX 3080 Tier monthly subscriptions for $19.99/month.

TechPowerUp Releases NVCleanstall v1.13.0

TechPowerUp today released the latest update to NVCleanstall, a lightweight utility that lets you take far greater control over your NVIDIA GeForce graphics driver installation than what NVIDIA's installer allows; letting you toggle several under-the-hood features that you potentially might not need. The latest version 1.13.0 adds several new features and improves the interface. For starters, we've now added the ability to fetch and install NVIDIA GeForce Studio drivers, should you choose those over the regular Game-Ready drivers. The interface now fetches driver versions to the opening page much quicker, and uses less bandwidth to do so. Download performance is improved by splitting them into smaller chunks that can be cached and downloaded at higher speeds.

With this release, NVCleanstall also remembers your choices in the Tweaks page from your previous use. More recent versions of NVIDIA GeForce drivers, including DCH, packs the NVIDIA Control Panel, and so the "Install DCH Control Panel" option doesn't show for these newer versions. We've also touched up the driver package descriptions to be more informative. AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Scores Top Spot in 3DMark Fire Strike Hall of Fame with 3.1 GHz Overclock

3DMark Fire Strike Hall of Fame is where overclockers submit their best hardware benchmark trials and try to beat the very best. For years, one record managed to hold, and today it just got defeated. According to an extreme overclocker called "biso biso" from South Korea and a part of the EVGA OC team, the top spot now belongs to the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card. The previous 3DMark Fire Strike world record was set on April 22nd in 2020, when Vince Lucido, also known as K|NGP|N, set a record with four-way SLI of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPUs. However, that record is old news since January 27th, when biso biso set the history with AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU.

The overclocker scored 62389 points, just 1,183 more from the previous record. He pushed the Navi 21 XTX silicon that powers the Radeon RX 6900 XT card to an impressive 3,147 MHz. Paired with a GPU memory clock of 2370 MHz, the GPU was probably LN2 cooled to achieve these results. The overclocker used EVGA's Z690 DARK KINGPIN motherboard with Intel Core i9-12900K processor as a platform of choice to achieve this record. NVIDIA "GA103" GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU SKU Pictured

When NVIDIA announced the appearance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile graphics card, we were left with a desire to see just what the GA103 silicon powering the GPU looks like. And thanks to the Chinese YouTuber Geekerwan, we have the first pictures of the GPU. Pictured below is GA103S/GA103M SKU with GN20-E8-A1 labeling. It features 58 SMs that make up for 7424 CUDA cores in total. The number of Tensor cores for this SKU is set to 232, while there are 58 RT cores. NVIDIA has decided to pair this GPU with a 256-bit memory bus and 16 GB GDDR6 memory.

As it turns out, the full GA103 silicon has a total of 7680 CUDA cores and a 320-bit memory bus, so this mobile version is a slightly cut-down variant. It sits perfectly between GA104 and GA102 SKUs, providing a significant improvement to the core count of GA104 silicon. Power consumption of the GA103 SKU for GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile is set to a variable 80-150 Watt range, which can be adjusted according to the system's cooling capacity. An interesting thing to point out is a die size of 496 mm², which is a quarter more significant compared to GA104, for a quarter higher number of CUDA cores.
