Kailh is probably the most popular mechanical keyboard switch manufacturer after Cherry in terms of design wins. The company has a formidable lineup of keyboard switches across all popular form-factors, and technologies. We begin our tour of their Computex 2024 booth with the Chocolate switch. The casing of this switch appears like the trapezoid pieces of a chocolate bar. This switch is typically meant for low-profile keyboards. There are three variants of these switches based on actuation force, actuation point, and key travel.

Kailh brought both Hall Effect switches and Magnetic (Reed) switches to Computex. They're both analog key switches that let you configure actuation point, and have several applications to the analog input, but have different mechanisms from each other. Kailh has several variants of both kinds of switches based on tactile feedback. Next up, are Kailh's digital (regular) key switches, which include Box-type conventional mechanical switches, and optical keyboard switches. The optical switch has the least latency among all key switches. The box type switches use a mechanism that converts electrical contact a spring-loaded switch to actuation.

Besides the impressive supercapacitor mouse, i-Rocks showed its conventional battery-based wireless mouse, the M31R. We are seeing a trend at Computex that mouse manufacturers are more interested in boasting about their interface polling rates, than their sensor resolution. With resolutions nearly 16,000 dpi, that aspect of the mouse is sorted, however, for a wireless mouse to be as competitive as a wired one, it needs a snappy interface. The M31R offers an 8,000 Hz interface polling rate, an 8x increase over the 1,000 Hz USB standard. The 8,000 Hz polling rate is available both for wired and wireless (RF) interfaces, however the Bluetooth interface is a little slower. Another theme with the i-Rocks keyboard lineup was the dominance of Hall Effect keyswitches. i-Rocks shows a bunch of them with different actuation profiles.

i-Rocks at the 2024 Computex showed us an interesting take on tenkeyless mechanical gaming keyboards. The main QWERTY cluster is where it should be, but has Function keys above it instead of the number keys, which is a break-out module that you can position either above or below. The arrow keys, along with the INS/DEL/Home/End/PageUp/PageDn cluster is now on the left side, where they're more accessible for competitive gaming.

This particular model is wired, with a USB-C/A interface. The K85H by i-Rocks is an 85% format keyboard with Hall Effect key switches, and a physical volume dial. The K104H is a 60% wireless keyboard with the same technology, but a higher 800 Hz wireless polling rate. The K73 series and K74 series span the conventional 100% format. The K85R is a step up from the K85H, but with a tiny OLED screen.
