Lenovo and Intel Extend Digital Learning with New Lenovo Classmate+ PC

Today, Lenovo and Intel Corporation announced the Lenovo Classmate+ PC, a purpose-built laptop designed to improve learning for students in grades K-8. The Lenovo Classmate+ provides schools an affordable, child-friendly complete hardware and software solution. Based on the Intel Learning Series reference design, the PC will come pre-loaded with the Intel Learning Series software suite, specialized educational software and a variety of teaching resources. This spring, the Organization of Ibero-American States will deploy the first wave of 158,000 Lenovo Classmate+ laptops as part of its Conectar Igualdad 1:1 computing program, which will equip students throughout the country with PC technology.

Lenovo's AMD Fusion Powered ThinkPad Starts Shipping

Lenovo made its AMD Brazos platform-based ThinkPad X120e available to buyers. One of the first ThinkPad laptops using AMD processors, the X120e uses a 11.6-inch form-factor, and is driven by either an AMD E-240 Fusion single-core, or E-350 dual-core accelerated processing unit, AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics, 2, 3, or 4 GB of DDR3 memory, WiFi a/b/g/n, and optional 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth 3.0. Storage options include 5400 or 7200 RPM hard drives, while battery options include 3-cell standard, or 6-cell. Windows 7 Home Premium is standard, but Windows 7 Professional can be opted for. Available in a variety of configurations, the ThinkPad X120e base models start at US $399 and $449.

AMD Announces Beginning of Fusion APU Era

Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, AMD launched a new class of accelerated processor that combines more compute capabilities than any processor in the history of computing. Lenovo Intros IdeaCentre A700 All-in-One PCs to the Market

Lenovo has started selling its IdeaCentre A700 all-in-one PC aimed at capturing the same market Apple's iMac is after, with nearly the same hardware at similar price-points, but driven by Windows 7. The lineup starts at US $999 with the 40243BU variant, it features a 23-inch display with 1920 x 1080 px resolution, Intel Core i3 350M 2.26 GHz processor, 4 GB of DDR3 memory, Intel HD graphics, 500 GB of storage, and a DVD-RW drive. At the top is the $1,599 40241CU. This variant is powered by an Intel Core i7 720QM 1.60 GHz quad-core processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5750 graphics, 8 GB of DDR3 memory, 1 TB of storage, and a Blu-ray + DVD writer combo drive. All three variants come with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit pre-installed.

Lenovo Unveils New Full-HD Capable Monitors

Lenovo unveiled three new monitors with full HD resolutions, one of which is multi-touch capable. The series includes the L2261 Wide, L2361p Wide, and L2461x Wide Multi-Touch (pictured in the same order). The lineup starts with L2261 Wide, a 21.5 inch display with a native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, and brightness of 250 cd/sq m. The monitor features a dash of aesthetics with a metallic stand that lets it swivel. It takes input from D-Sub and DVI.

Next up is the L2361p Wide with its 23 inch screen, the same 250 cd/sq m, and 1920x1080 resolution, and a pad stand. It has some accessories such as integrated 3W stereo speakers and mic, 0.3 MP web-camera, and a 3-port USB hub. Lastly, there's the L2461x Wide with a similar form-factor as the L2361p Wide, but a 23.6 inch screen with multi-touch capabilities. This one also sports stereo speakers with mic, a 4-port USB hub, and 2.0 MP web-camera. It takes input from HDMI 1.3, DVI, and D-Sub. This display is priced at $550. The others are yet to be listed.

Intel Announces Next-Generation Atom Platform

Intel Corporation announced new Intel Atom processors today that feature integrated graphics built directly into the CPU, enabling improved performance and smaller, more energy-efficient designs in a new generation of netbooks and Atom-based entry level desktop PCs. Major OEMs have committed to having systems on the new Intel Atom processors and a new companion chipset available within the next few weeks.

The newest Intel Atom platform for netbooks consists of a new Intel Atom processor, the N450, and a new low-power Intel NM10 Express Chipset. For entry level desktop PCs, it consists of either the Intel Atom processor D410 or the dual core D510, also paired with the Intel NM10 Express Chipset. The Intel Atom processor was designed from the ground up for small devices and low power, and remains Intel's smallest chip, built on the company's 45nm high-k metal gate manufacturing process. The overall package, including chipset, just got smaller due to the increasing integration and 45nm manufacturing, which means smaller, more compact system designs, lower costs for OEMs and improved performance.
