AMD Readies Radeon RX 7650 GRE Based on "Navi 33"

AMD is readying a new mainstream graphics card positioned based on its current RDNA 3 graphics architecture, the Radeon RX 7650 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition). The company has had great success in selling graphics card SKUs with the "GRE" brand extension in China, with the RX 6750 GRE being a popular SKU there; and it even has an enthusiast-class SKU with the RX 7900 GRE, which saw a global launch earlier this year. The company is hoping for the "GRE" moniker to compete better against the GeForce RTX 4060, at least in specific markets. A new Benchlife.info report says that the RX 7650 GRE will be based on the 6 nm "Navi 33" monolithic silicon, and not the 5 nm "Navi 32" chiplet-based GPU previously reported.

AMD has already maxed out the "Navi 33" for both the RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT, with the latter only seeing its memory size doubled over the former, so it remains to be seen where AMD goes with the RX 7650 GRE. The "7650" numbering suggests a faster SKU, so it's possible that AMD increases the engine clock speeds of the "Navi 33" by as much as it can. The RX 7600 comes with a 2.25 GHz Game clock, which the RX 7600 XT slightly bumps up to 2.47 GHz. If we were to guess, the RX 7650 GRE could focus on increasing the Game clock, not the memory size; and so it could have the power configuration of the RX 7600 XT, and room for Game clocks either on-par or higher than the RX 7600 XT, while retaining the 8 GB memory size of the RX 7600.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT Pricing Slides Down to Under $355, Threatening RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7600 XT

Retailer specific discounts are creating quite the pileup of graphics card options between the $300 to $500 mark. With enough time spent finding the right deal, you could potentially buy a much faster graphics card that you'd planned for, at a given price. Hot on the heels on a recent Best Buy deal that brought the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB down to $344, or within just $15 of the Radeon RX 7600 XT, we're hearing about a couple of Newegg deals that see the Radeon RX 7700 XT down to just $353, or $9 more than the RTX 4060 Ti, and $24 more than an RX 7600 XT.

At $353, the RX 7700 XT changes the game, as it is a firmly 1440p-class GPU, compared to the 1080p-class RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7600 XT. In our testing, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is an incredible 17% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti at 1080p for just $9 more; and 19% faster than it at 1440p. Compared to the RX 7600 XT, the RX 7700 XT is a staggering 39% faster at 1080p, and 44% faster at 1440p. Even with ray tracing enabled, the RX 7700 XT dominates the RTX 4060 Ti. At 1080p with ray tracing enabled, the RTX 4060 Ti averages just 2% faster than the RX 7700 XT, but at 1440p, the RX 7700 XT in fact ends up 14% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti thanks to its much heavier SIMD engine, and 50% higher memory bandwidth. The Newegg deal doesn't even cover a cheap custom design, but the mighty PowerColor RX 7700 XT Hellhound and Fighter.

Price Cuts Bring the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti to Within $15 of Radeon RX 7600 XT

A series of price cuts on Best Buy for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (8 GB) sees the card now drop to $344, down from its $399 MSRP, reports VideoCardz. This new low price puts it within just $15 of the recently launched AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT. For the vast majority of gamers playing at 1080p, this is great news. In our testing, the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB is on average 18% faster than the RX 7600 XT in gaming without ray tracing; and a staggering 45% faster with ray tracing enabled. Both the RTX 4060 Ti and the RX 7600 XT are recommended by their makers for maxed out gaming at 1080p, including with ray tracing. Best Buy has the cheapest RTX 4060 Ti in the market right now, with the Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti Gaming OC listed at $344.

Both the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 4060 appear to be designed to withstand a great degree of price cuts, to compete against the RX 7600 XT and RX 7600. The RTX 4060 Ti, much like the RX 7600 XT, features a small ASIC, and just four GDDR6 memory chips for its 128-bit memory bus, a simpler 8-lane PCIe interface; and in our opinion, a simpler VRM design than the RX 7600 XT. The bill of materials would boil down to the ASIC costs; while the RTX 4060 Ti uses a 188 mm² silicon built on the newer 5 nm node; the RX 7600 XT uses a larger 204 mm² albeit based on the older 6 nm node.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT Launches with a Large 16 GB Memory

AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT went on sale today, at a starting price of $330. Designed for maxed out AAA gameplay at 1080p, this card can try its hands with 1440p gaming, at mid-thru-high settings; you can use features such as FSR 2, FSR 3 Frame Generation, the AMD Fluid Motion Frames feature that extends frame generation to any DirectX 11/12 game; as well as the HyperRX one-click performance enhancement that's part of the AMD Software control panel app. AMD had already maxed out all available shaders on the 6 nm "Navi 33" monolithic silicon, but has opted not to rope in the larger "Navi 32" chiplet GPU for the RX 7600 XT. Instead, it attempted to squeeze out the most performance possible from the "Navi 33," by dialing up clock speeds, power limits, and doubling the memory size.

You still get 32 compute units on the RX 7600 XT, which are worth 2,048 stream processors, 64 AI accelerators, 32 Ray accelerators, 128 TMUs, and 64 ROPs, but the 128-bit GDDR6 memory bus now drives 16 GB of memory running at the same 18 Gbps speed, yielding 288 GB/s of bandwidth. The GPU game clock has been increased to 2.47 GHz, up from 2.25 GHz on the RX 7600. The power limit has been increased from 165 W to 190 W on the RX 7600 XT; and implementing DisplayPort 2.1 has been made mandatory for board partners (they can't opt for the DisplayPort 1.4a like they could on the RX 7600). AMD claims that the 16 GB of video memory should come in handy for content creators, and those dabbling with generative AI.

XFX Preparing to Launch Two Radeon RX 7600 XT Graphics Cards

With the release of AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT set for January 24th, we expect a lot of custom versions from the usual AMD AIB partners, and XFX is coming with two of its own versions, the RX 7600 XT SWFT 210 and the RX 7600 XT QICK 309. In case you missed it, AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT comes with Navi 33 XT GPU and has the same 2048 Stream Processors as the previously available Radeon RX 7600 graphics card. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7600 XT will come with higher clocks, higher power with 190 W TDP, which now require two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The memory is also increased to 16 GB GDDR6 but it is still on the same 128-bit memory interface.

The XFX RX 7600 XT SWFT 210 is pretty much the same as the Radeon RX 7600 SWFT 210 SKU, except for additional 8-pin PCIe power connector. It is a budget-oriented SKU, so it sticks to dual-fan, dual-slot cooler design, and won't have a factory-overclock, but should launch at AMD's MSRP of $329. The XFX RX 7600 XT QICK 309 on the other hand uses a more hefty triple-fan, 2.5-slot cooler design, and will come a with a factory-overclock. Unfortunately, XFX is still not listing those clocks, but we expect a decent boost on those GPU clocks.

ASRock Website Lists Radeon RX 7600 XT 16 GB Steel Legend & Challenger OC Cards

ASRock showcased customized Radeon RX 7600 XT 16 GB GPU offerings at CES 2024—only a couple days after AMD's official unveiling of its expanded lower mid-range RDNA 3 line. ASRock was among a select few Team Red board partners with finalized units (based on Navi 33 XT) on display—it seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer is preparing for a retail launch of its Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend 16 GB OC and Challenger 16 GB OC graphics card models. ASRock's website has been updated with product pages for the latest Radeon RX 7000-series entries, but press material for an imminent product launch has not been published (at the time of writing).

ASRock's mid-tier triple-fan Steel Legend and entry-level dual-fan Challenger designs are a familiar sight across the company's Radeon RX 7000 and 6000 product lines—last September, customized Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT models were unveiled as sporting these shrouds, along with higher-end Phantom Gaming OC options. A slightly overclocked Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU is not expected to be a heat producing monster, so expensive cooling solutions are not a necessity for a cost-conscious audience—likely targeting a decent level of 1080p gaming performance. The ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT Challenger 16 GB OC model is expected to launch at an MSRP of $329 (AMD's official guide SEP), while the fancier Steel Legend OC is believed to be only marginally more expensive.

TechPowerUp GPU-Z 2.57.0 Released

TechPowerUp today released the latest version of TechPowerUp GPU-Z, the popular graphics sub-system information, monitoring, and diagnostic utility for gamers, engineers, and enthusiasts alike. Version 2.57.0 comes with support for all of the big new GPU releases this month. These include the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, RTX 4080 SUPER, and RTX 4090D; and AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT. AMD announced the new Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card, bolstering its mid-range of 1080p class GPUs. The RX 7600 XT is designed for maxed out AAA gaming at 1080p, although it is very much possibly to play many of the titles at 1440p with fairly high settings. You can also take advantage of technologies such as FSR 3 frame generation in games that support it, AMD Fluid Motion Frames on nearly all DirectX 12 and DirectX 11 games; as well as the new expanded AMD HyperRX performance enhancement that engages a host of AMD innovations such as Radeon Super Resolution, Anti-Lag, and Radeon Boost, to achieve a target frame rate.

The Radeon RX 7600 XT is based on the same 6 nm "Navi 33" silicon, and the latest RDNA 3 graphics architecture, as the Radeon RX 7600. If you recall, the RX 7600 had maxed out all 32 CU on the silicon. To design the RX 7600 XT, AMD retained the "Navi 33," but doubled the memory size to 16 GB, and increased the clock speeds. The 16 GB of memory is deployed across the same 128-bit wide memory bus as the 8 GB is on the RX 7600. The memory speed is unchanged, too, at 18 Gbps GDDR6-effective; as is the resulting memory bandwidth, of 288 GB/s. There are two key changes—the GPU clock speeds and power limits.

AMD Withholds Radeon RX 7600 XT Launch in China Amid Strong RX 6750 GRE Sales

According to the latest round of reports, AMD has decided not to include China in the initial global launch of its upcoming Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card. The RX 7600 XT, featuring 16 GB of memory and based on AMD's next-generation RDNA 3 architecture, was expected to launch soon at a price of around $300. However, the company is currently re-evaluating its Chinese GPU launch strategy due to the runaway success of its existing Radeon RX 6750 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) series in the region. The RX 6750 GRE cards with 10 GB and 12 GB configurations retail between $269-$289 in China, offering exceptional value compared to rival NVIDIA RTX models. AMD seems hesitant to risk undercutting sales of its popular RX 6750 GPUs by launching the newer 7600 XT.

While the RX 7600 XT promises more raw performance thanks to advanced RDNA 3 architecture, 6750 GRE, with its RDNA 2 design, seemingly remains efficient enough for most Chinese mainstream gamers. With the RX 6750 GRE still selling strongly in China, AMD has postponed the RX 7600 XT introduction for this key market. Final launch timelines for the 7600 XT in China and globally remain unconfirmed by AMD at time of writing. The company appears to be treading cautiously amidst the shifting competitive landscape.

AMD Readies Radeon RX 7600 XT, RX 7700, and RX 7800

Even as NVIDIA inches close to the launch of its RTX 40-series SUPER graphics cards in January, AMD could be preparing a product stack update of its own. While NVIDIA's refresh focuses on the higher end of its lineup, AMD looks to spread out more into the mainstream-performance segments. A regulatory filing with the Eurasian Economic Commission mentions the terms "RX 7600 XT," "RX 7700," and "RX 7800," which fill gaps between the RX 7600, RX 7700 XT, and RX 7800 XT.

There exists a rather big gap between the $230 Radeon RX 7600 and the $450 RX 7700 XT, which AMD is looking to fill with the RX 7600 XT and RX 7700 (non-XT). How AMD goes about carving out these two will be interesting to see. The RX 7600 already maxes out the 6 nm "Navi 33" silicon that it's based on, which means to create the RX 7600 XT, AMD might have to tap into the larger (and much more expensive) "Navi 32" MCM. There is a vast gap between the 32 CU (compute units) available to the RX 7600, and the 54 CU that the RX 7700 XT has (while the silicon itself has 60). Besides CU count, AMD has other levers, such as the MCD (memory cache die) count, which could be down to just 2 for the RX 7600 XT, or 3 for the RX 7700. The Radeon RX 7800 is a different beast. AMD faced quite some flack for positioning the RX 7700 XT within $50 of the RX 7800 XT, and now the former can be had for a street price of roughly $430. To be able to squeeze the RX 7800 between the two, AMD might need to widen the gap by pushing the RX 7700 XT down.

PowerColor Registers Radeon RX 7600 XT 10 GB & 12 GB Cards

PowerColor has registered a significant number of AMD Radeon RX 7000-series SKUs with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC)—these enrollments are seemingly always a good source of pre-launch information. Naturally, the ever reliable harukaze5719 has reported on this latest filing. The most interesting new SKUs within this leak appear to be Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics cards lined up in Hellhound and Fighter flavors—perhaps an early hint of Team Red prepping different versions of existing RDNA 3 GPUs. Scott Herkelman, AMD's senior vice president, stated last month that no new RX 7000-series ASICs were in the pipeline. The already released Radeon RX 7600 8 GB GPU is the sole entry within its lower end gaming segment for the current generation.

Technical information is not included with EEC filings, so we can only speculate about the choice of Navi 3x GPU with these leaked XT variants. VideoCardz has questioned the slightly peculiar allocations of 10 GB and 12 GB VRAM specs: "(raising) questions about AMD's choice of GPU architecture. One possibility is that they are using the Navi 33 with unusual 96-bit and 80-bit memory configurations, although this seems counterintuitive as it would result in lower memory bandwidth compared to the RX 7600. The Navi 33 GPU is typically limited to a 128-bit memory interface." Alternatively, they also propose that a "heavily cut-down Navi 32 GPU" could exist that "grants 192/160-bit memory." SKUs based on AMD's unreleased Radeon RX 6750 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) GPU are also visible within PowerColor's registration, also sporting 10 GB and 12 GB video memory configurations. Additionally, the Taiwanese graphics card specialist appears to be preparing a couple of white and SAKURA edition Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT cards.

Possible AMD Radeon RX 7600 Specs Leaked

Possible specifications of the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 7600 graphics card leaked to the web. At this point we don't know if the RX 7600 maxes out the silicon it is based on (with room for a faster RX 7600 XT). The leak appears to be from marketing materials of the RX 7600. It speaks of 32 Compute Units. This works out to the same 2,048 stream processors as the previous-generation RX 6600 XT, but an increase from the 1,792 of the RX 6600. The mention of AI accelerators confirms that this GPU is based on the latest RDNA3 graphics architecture.

The other RDNA3 feature referenced is the Radiance Display Engine, which supports the latest DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1a outputs, along with 12 bpc color, and support for resolutions as high as 4K 180 Hz with a single cable. Apparently, the GPU that the RX 7600 is based on has 32 MB of Infinity Cache memory, which is the same amount as the previous-generation "Navi 23" silicon powering the RX 6600 series. For the flagship "Navi 31," the Infinity Cache memory size is generationally reduced to 96 MB (from 128 MB on "Navi 21,") because the memory bus width has generationally increased to 384-bit (from 256-bit). This could mean that the RX 7600 has a 128-bit wide memory bus, given that its Infinity Cache size is unchanged from that of the RX 6600 series.

More Radeon RX 7000 Series Graphics Cards Spotted in ROCm 5.6

A bunch of unreleased AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card have been spotted in ROCm 5.6 pull request, including the Radeon RX 7950 XTX, 7950 XT, 7800 XT, 7700 XT, 7600 XT, and 7500 XT. AMD has not yet launched its mainstream Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards, but according to the latest pull request, there are several unreleased graphics cards in for both high-end and mainstream segments. While the pull request has been removed from GitHub, it has been saved on Reddit. So far, it appears that AMD's RDNA 3 Radeon 7000 series lineup will be based on just three GPUs, Navi 33, Navi 32, and the Navi 31.

According to the list, we can expect a high-end refresh with Radeon RX 7950 XTX/XT version, also based on Navi 31 GPU. The list also shows that the Radeon RX 7800 series will be the only one based on the Navi 32 GPU, at least for now, while the Navi 33 GPU should cover the entire mainstream lineup, including the Radeon RX 7700 series, Radeon RX 7600 series, and the Radeon RX 7500 series. The list only includes XT versions, while non-XT should show up later, as it was the case with the Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. AMD's President and CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, already confirmed during Q1 2023 earnings call that mainstream Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs based on RDNA 3 architecture will launch during this quarter, and earlier rumors suggest we might see them at Computex 2023.

Enthusiast-segment SKUs of the yesteryear, such as the RX 6900 series, could be had at prices under $600.

Late-May Launch of GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Sets Up Direct Clash with Radeon RX 7600 XT

NVIDIA is preparing a late-May 2023 launch of its upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti performance segment graphics card. A list of key dates associated with the launch was leaked to the web, which states that the company is planning a late-May product launch, with market availability of the card slated within May 2023, ahead of Computex. A late-May launch would set the RTX 4060 Ti up for a direct clash with the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT, which has a launch date confirmed for May 25th. Interestingly, while there's some clarity on the launch of the RTX 4060 Ti (PG190 SKU 361), the more affordable RTX 4060 (PG173 SKU 371) remains shrouded in mystery. Given how successful the current RTX 3060 is in the market, NVIDIA would want to avoid clubbing the launches of the two 4060-series SKUs, and may give the RTX 4060 an exclusive launch during or after Computex.

It's no wonder that we heard reports of RX 7600 series cards being shown off at Computex, all those cards will be available to purchase by then.

AMD is likely to skip the launch of a Radeon RX 7700 series for now, and prioritize the RX 7600 series. Sources tell Igor's Lab that AMD's dedicated AIB partners (such as ASRock, Sapphire, PowerColor, and XFX), are expected to have custom-design boards based on Radeon RX 7600 series ready to show by Computex 2023 (June), although multi-brand board partners, such as MSI, ASUS, and GIGABYTE, are expected to take a wait-and-watch approach toward the series. AMD is likely yet to figure out the economics of an RX 7700 series product that could compete with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 series, offering competitive performance and energy-efficiency, but the introduction of the RTX 4060 series could see NVIDIA reap the sub-$500 market, where AMD possibly has a competitive silicon.
