A Closer Look - Inside
To access to the interior, simply remove the thumbscrews holding each panel in place, before prying the panels off the chassis. Just as expected, the magnetic dust filter can be found here, protecting the air vent from dirt and grime. The interior looks quite similar to what we have seen in other cube cases with a vertical ATX board layout. You can access the interior freely through both sides, with a dividing wall acting as a motherboard tray.
Looking at the front, you will not find any large fans since anidees chose to go for four (!) 120 mm instead—clear units with white LEDs. This looks pretty menacing and should give you some nice airflow. In the top is the 5.25" drive bay, which is utilized as a 3.5" hard-drive tray right out of the box. If you want to install an optical drive, you will have to remove the tray first.
You will find seven expansion slots in the rear of the main compartment. Each of these is protected by its own reusable cover. The screws to hold these in place have been relocated to the exterior of the chassis to keep its dimensions as small as possible. Above that is the fifth 120 mm fan anidees includes right out of the box.
Turning the AI7 around, you will find a 2.5/3.5" HDD cage for two storage drives and a 2.5" variant on top. The whole contraption has been placed toward the rear to make sure any fan you place there pulls air across these drives nicely. Below that is the PSU bay with two sets of mounting holes, which allows the PSU's fan to face in either direction. Given the bay's placement, you should have the fan point toward the side panel.
You will find a PCB that has been screwed onto the floor to control all these fans. Out of the box, all four units are only loosely connected to this fan controller, so you will have to spend some time on rewiring these nicely. There are enough headers to connect all pre-installed fans. However, you may also install another on the main compartment's floor if you are so inclined. anidees placed a removable dust filter there as well, so you won't have to worry about grime entering the system through this particular opening.
You will find two more 2.5/3.5" hard-drive trays in the ceiling. You will at least have to remove the one on the right to give way to an ODD, or both if you want to install liquid-cooling into the top.
All the cables within the AI7m are of the standard variety and come with black sleeving to keep with the interior's overall color scheme.
