The control panel is probably the most interesting part of the OS, and you will have to use it frequently.

Control Panel - Control

The shutdown and reboot options are here. These options should be somewhere else, easier to find and access. You can enable or disable EuP mode, which will have the NAS consumes less than 0.5 W in standby, and there are settings for automatic resume, Wake-On-LAN, and the unit's buzzer. This is also where you can set the fan's speed.

The system info pages provide some very interesting data. CPU and system temperatures look quite low.

The network settings are among the most interesting settings around.

Since this NAS is equipped with two Ethernet ports, you are able to combine them to either increase transfer speeds or reliability.

There is of course DDNS support, which allows you to find the server's Internet address even when it is connected to the web through a dynamic IP.

Every external storage device you will connect will show up here.

The monitor menu includes a bunch of graphs, there to relate the system's utilization in various areas.

The firmware and configuration management settings can be found here.

Control Panel - Privilege

You will have to visit this menu to create shared folders. The whole process is pretty straightforward.

Here are the active directory options.

Control Panel - Storage

You will find support for four file systems within the RAID manager: EXT3, EXT4, Btrfs, and XFS. Most NAS servers thus far only supported EXT4, so it is very nice to see Btrfs and XFS supported as well.

Setting up your storage configuration is very easy, as you can see by taking a look at the screenshots above.

The first submenu of the storage options gives you a look at all installed HDDs and the ability to set their spin-down time. In our case, this setting didn't work, probably because our HDDs aren't compatible ThecusOS 7's disk power management.

ThecusOS provides disk clone and wipe options, which can prove quite useful.

Control Panel - Services

Service options are necessary in a NAS since they allows a NAS to communicate with other servers and clients.

Thecus obviously provides a web service for the NAS.

Control Panel - Backup

Multiple backup options are provided. With the huge number of roles a modern NAS can take on, some will have probably forgotten that one of their main roles is data backup.
