Sony PlayStation 3 Officially Supports Blu-ray 3D Playback

When it first came out, Sony's PlayStation 3 game console was the easiest way to have a Blu-ray disc (BD) player, because the console uses BD as its primary media. With a new firmware update from Sony, users can add Blu-ray 3D support. It is especially interesting because not every older standalone Blu-ray player supports the latest 3D format. Firmware update 3.50 applies to all versions of the PlayStation 3 (that's Slim and the original design). The move to let the PS3 have Blu-ray 3D support was backed by an announcement that upcoming game titles on the PS3, such as Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 3 will come in stereoscopic 3D.

If ya do get Netflix as well then you have plenty to watch. We pay $18 a month and we get 4-6 movies a week including Blu Ray movies

Nice. Now I need a new TV and some glasses :/

I've tried 3DBR at a station in Best Buy before, it was really cool. Not uncomfortable at all.

Nevermind me going 3D with the PS3 then, that's way to much for some ugly ass glasses that are supposed make things pop out at me.

eastcoasttvs.com I got a 46 inch 3d from them for 1200. Awesome price, awesome co. You just have to be in their delivery area to get the stuff from them. I thought it was a scam site at first but thankfully that wasn't the case. I'm pumped that this finally came out, now I can watch my mosters vs aliens promo 3d blu ray in actual 3d! woot!

Edit: Since you're in Adelaide that would not quite make it in their delivery range haha.

And 250 bucks for a pair of glasses?!?! Since when?! The samsung battery powered ones are 100, rechargables are 200. The starter kit (if you do some shopping) is $190 and comes w/ monsters vs aliens 3d and 2 sets of battery glasses. Still, they are insanely expensive and fragile (as I found the hard way) but not THAT insanely expensive.

I cant imagine when a friend comes by with 1 person more and I dont have another pair of super glasses for him ... Technology is pretty shitty imho because you cant watch the screen without glasses. I mean it would be fine if no glasses = no 3d but its unwatchable.

very true it kind of is frustrating. But there are 3d tvs in the works by Toshiba that don't need glasses. link. I hope that works out because it would make it much better for party time if a thousand dollars in glasses weren't needed lol.

On a slightly side note but still 3d related. I am amazingly impressed with the quality of it. I thought it was going to be stupid like in the theaters but the active glasses make a world of difference. Super Startdust HD in 3d is beyond top notch at showing how true 3d is supposed to function without all the gimmicky tricks. I was laughing when I played it the first time because it was so good.
