The Most Pirated Games of 2011

Today Kotaku is reporting the top 5 games pirated for major platforms this year according to TorrentFreak. As usual the PC platform is the most guilty almost doubling in pirated copies then its competitors.

Some of the titles listed are not surprising but the lack of a certain title filled with dragon slaying is. Why Skyrim didn't make the top five is anyone's guess. Either Steam is in fact the most user friendly DRM or people just love Skyrim. Either way this is just a small glimpse into the world of pirated software.

Top Five Pirated PC Games

1. Crysis 2 (3,920,000) (March 2011)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (3,650,000) (November 2011)
3. Battlefield 3 (3,510,000) (October 2011)
4. FIFA 12 (3,390,000) (September 2011)
5. Portal 2 (3,240,000) (April 2011)

You actually think that POS BF3 was better than Portal 2?:shadedshu

Kind of expected when the publishers have to rely on easily breakable software DRM, when the consoles are using hardware based DRM. This will be used as another argument about how DRM does help reduce piracy, and stronger hardware DRM helps reduce it dramatically...

I played 3, 4 and 5 but except for 4 I don't really play them anymore.

I rarely play BF3 multiplayer because my internet only becomes reliable around...well, right now. It's 2:30AM and not exactly a good time to play an FPS though.

I thought Crysis 2 single player was very good, and it did look very fine in DX11 mode.

No I think it says a lot on how great Skyrim is. People loved it so much they were willing to.....gasp.......pay for it. I dunno honestly.

Will someone buy it for me? lol I WANNA PLAY IT SO BAD!

Anyway this is the kinda crap why that junk bill SOPA gained ground.

Haven't played any of those and ain't gonna either. However, this list is kinda predictable. cod and bf and all other mediocre stuff is quite popular.

Anyway I don't believe all those numbers and lists. These lists is just another reason for riaa mpaa or whatever theyr called to push their ridiculous laws so they could easily spy on people.

1. Crytek fucked us PC gamers over.
2. To be expected.
3. Release dates varied between countries despite the digital release. Most who pirated it, did so as they had a pre-order.
4. No excuse
5. No excuse

Either that or, well, look at the demographics of people that play shooters versus people that play RPGs.

Bought Crysis 2, Portal 2, and BF3, didn't touch MW3 or FIFA12 with a barge pole.

Me neither. I did (and still do in 2012) play World of Tanks though ... which is free, albeit torrent-able game :)

It's free, but useless without countless micro-transactions that end up making it cost more than, say, BF3.
