Apple Patents Game Controller and Console Remote

Apple might be diving into the world of console gaming yet again according to Shacknews and GI.biz The patent application shows a staggering similarity to Sony's DualShock controller and what seems to be an iPhone interacting with a Microsoft Xbox360. This might be an Apple style preemptive attack against future endeavors to create apps that interface with current generation consoles or it could be something new that Apple has in the works. With the current growth in Apples market share and the growing popularity of Apple TV it shouldn't come as a surprise it would want a piece of the console pie. Whether the big three (Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo) give any leeway to Apple has yet to be seen.

Would not be surprised in the slightest next Apple will sue random company A claiming they have patented the display in device B and so the cycle will continue.

My comments are not part of the news posts. I post the story and comment separate. I make DAMN sure people know its my opinion on the story and NOT THE STORY.

The USPTO should have denied the patent. That looks like a PlayStation controller clone. Looks to me like they didn't even try to change the PlayStation design.

Additionally, I don't think there's any room for a fourth competitor in the console segment.

The USPTO agent probably reviewed the patent on an iPad.

I would like to know which dimwit assigned the patents to Apple, as these drawings look like generic game controller that every other manufacturer is making. :banghead:

You are only about 40 years to late on that one. Hell 15 years would have been ok. Now? Waste of time.

Please Apple, make it super popular, then have Microsoft and Sony beat your ass in court and steal your moneyzz. You know what would be awesome? Apple donating a few billion to AMD so they can catch up to intel

If you can't make the difference between the newspost and TMMs comment, you can legally call yourself blind ffs. Even if it were in the OP it would have been blatantly obvious, but it can't be clearer in a separate post... does he have to make a 2nd account so he can post in his news stories? sheesh

Oh and TMM, you probably took words words out of everyone's mouth with that comment xD

The Holy Apple once again showing true technological progress, especially compared to the pretenders' lackluster efforts.

1) the source is stated
2) I highly doubt it's copyrighted

With that being said your point is mute.

I think this is more or less about the iphone connecting to these devices... i don't see why they'd make a controller just like a ps3 when they can just charge you for an app that connects to it.

why would you use your phone when the remote is sitting right there on your coffee table? this is pretty pointless.

looks like jobbs is pulling a tupac. still coming out with new products from beyond the grave just like tupac releasing albums still after death lol. them patenting this means someone on the android side can't release one doing the same thing.

I say "screw apple"

I guess the similar controller style/design is taking away from the "real" news which is the software. Which I can do without personally. I could do without Apple TBH lol

I don't like consoles. Hey devs; port GT5 to PC for me so I can sell my POS PS3. You seem to like porting everything else

Sorry, but if you patent a document with a gamepad that looks like an EXACT copy of Sony's DualShock gamepad (which existed way before Apple could even spell word console), how the hell they even have guts to accuse others of copying their garbage!?
And i wonder how this crap passed to patents anyway. And i also hope that Sony sues their asses big time for this. We don't need douchebags like Apple and their ridiculous patents...

And everyone thought M$ was insane with $60 controller prices. Now Apple has beaten them with $500+ price for a controller. Although, it'll prolly work with iPod Touch too so...$200?
