NVIDIA Releases GeForce 398.36 WHQL Drivers

NVIDIA today released GeForce 398.36 WHQL software. These drivers come game-ready for Ubisoft's upcoming "The Crew 2" game. The drivers also bring new and updated SLI profiles for titles such as Dark Souls Remastered, Hand of Fate 2, Need for Speed Payback, and Super Mega Baseball 2. A 3D Vision Profile for Output Zero - Good is included as well. The fixed issues include Pascal graphics cards crashing spontaneously in Gear of War 4, G-SYNC remaining active after a game, game crashes when launched in Surround mode, and many other fixes.

After the last release removed a lot of the HDR options from the Nvidia Control Panel, be hesitant about downloading this driver.

You ready man? Let's do this.

EDIT: Done, and so far, no explodey. Let's do some games!

I went clean install. Qubit, you going in dirty? Come on man, that's where the fun is.

Yes, because getting a BSOD is the end of the world.

I always wondered who/what "dies" in the "blue screen of death?"

My computer seems ok...

...Bill gates is still here....

Maybe my chances at finding a mate for messing with the computer that long?

That has to be it.

Thanks for reminding me to update my profile on those dating websites, MS! So nice of you to care! Say hi to Bill for me!

Even I won't deny PC Desktop formfactor is waning in popularity... but laptops are pretty hot and the games run on the same hardware really.

And still, the desktops? I would never imagine them vanishing completely. That's like thinking there'll be a day when no one pumps oil. There are occasions when people need a stationary work station, and I doubt that'll ever change.

Right, I wuz gunna get round to this tomorrow or the day after, but you threw the install-with-wild-abandon gauntlet down so I did it now. :pimp:

GFE had the idiotic impressive cosmetic glitch below, but otherwise a terribly boring install, that "just worked". <sigh>

And yeah, it wuz a filthy, filthy install, preserving all settings and no reboot!:eek::laugh:

Important glitch details: the scrollbar worked and links could be clicked. ;)

Just upgraded to this driver, just played Shadow of War, Hearthstone, INSIDE, and Starcraft 2. 0 issues for me. Gsync is working great even in windowed mode.

I honestly have not had a BSOD since AMD 7950 graphics card days, outside of overclocking causing it, which was my fault. Only issues I ever had was Gsync not working properly from time to time, seems to be working fine here lately though so meh

seems that some folks just don't learn their lessons after all... getting BSODs are entirely on you, not the software's fault as you agree on it's EULA halfheartedly. ALWAYS perform a clean install each time there's a new driver release, hotfix or not. Also, installing JUST the display driver & PhysX software is more than enough. GFE is optional. Never go for "Express" installation settings OR updating your drivers with GFE.

Yep, I always do custom install and clean install option checked. Also every 6 months an OS clean install. I have fiber optic internet though so it literally takes me 45 minutes to do a complete clean OS install with even games, etc being backed up, lol. I have had 0 issues. I will say Fall Creators Update was pure crap, but this new Spring Creators Update has helped a lot and is running smoother.

Running the April Update (at long last), of course, deployed it as clean install, surprisingly have less issues than what most people are experiencing or bitching about it. Will give this new driver a shot & see whether I will get random issues or not.

@R-T-B not on you both but in the general matter. Sure, testing for faults is a good thing but not everyone knows how to find the root cause & then blames their PC for it.
@$ReaPeR$ 970 reference card owner over here. Trying out this new driver rn.

Finally did a clean install of this driver last night...and have had multiple system restarts while playing Final Fantasy 15, Hard Reset Redux, and Shadow Warrior 2. The HDR options in the Nvidia Control Center were back though. Think I am going to do a clean reinstall of the 391 driver and try these games again.

Update: Did a clean reinstall of 391.35 and played Final Fantasy 15 for 2 hours with 1080ti, Highest settings and HDR. Not one crash or system reboot.

Update: installed the driver on both my laptop & personal rig. So far no issues are showing up atm. All I did was install the display driver, PhysX & GFE. 3D Vision & other features were opted out. Didn't disable/turn off Nvidia telemetry.

Heck, I do it too, on those rare occasions I update my drivers. I let GFE do it, installing right over the old drivers. :p No problems ever!
