Sony Offering Free Copy Of Ratchet and Clank to PlayStation Users

Sony has restarted their "Play At Home initiative" to provide a "series of free games and entertainment offers for our PlayStation community to make the next few months a little more fun and enjoyable". The Play At Home initiative was launched by Sony in April 2020 and offered PlayStation users a free copy of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Journey for PS4. Sony will now be offering a free copy of Ratchet & Clank PS4 from Insomniac Games between March 1st and March 31st. Once you redeem the game, it will be yours to keep as was the case previously. All the games offered via the Play At Home initiative are playable on the PS5 with backward compatibility mode. Sony has also partnered with Funimation to offer an extended trial for new customers of the anime streaming service. Sony will announce additional free games and services in the coming months.
SonyStarting March 1, 2021
  • PlayStation and Insomniac Games will make Ratchet & Clank PS4 available for free download for a limited time through PlayStation Store from March 1 at 8pm PST / March 2 at 4am GMT / 5am CET to March 31, 2021 at 8pm PDT / April 1 at 4am BST / 5am CEST.
  • Once you redeem the game, it will be yours to keep. This 2016 PS4 action-adventure hit from Insomniac Games revisits the origin stories of these beloved PlayStation heroes and features a great mix of outrageous combat and comedy.
Starting March 25, 2021
  • Our friends at Funimation (a joint venture of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex of Japan) are kicking in a very special offer: extended access for new subscribers to Funimation or Wakanim in the countries they are available. Funimation is an anime-focused subscription service and Wakanim is Funimation's European division. While there will be additional details to follow, this offer is only available to our community who sign up for and download the Funimation (in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand) or Wakanim apps (in most of Western and Northern Europe) starting on March 25 for a limited time.

Well, I have a spare laptop bluray drive and I have an enclosure coming for it, I'll try to get a lower-powered movie player soon.

e: My PS3 probably uses even more power than 90W as I have the 80GB fat PAL one. Tho I put a SSD there.

The store is different between PS3 and PS4, I don't think you can reclaim the game from the PS3 store if you tried.

i thought by implying that my PS3 being in it's original box for years would all so mean i don't ever use it, but hey.

It most likley be the last console i ever bothered with and besides driving games and Little Big Planet which counted about 100 hours of use at max i have never bothered.

Good timing, with Microsoft having just announced next month's Gold freebies being a return to "unpleasant feelings for having to pay for multiplayer anyway, since this amounts to 'meh'"-mode.
The past two months could have just been to save face from the XBLG price hike attempt earlier in the year, but made sense in that the service itself still is an option, instead of paying more for XGPU. However, the games are not to keep, per se, as they are only yours during subscription time.
Playstation didn't do this more frequently in the past, by what I could gather from the news press, but by making it permanently associated with the account and not requiring a subscription is a good thing, along with promising more titles.

What's funny is I'm 99% sure they already offered this game as a Playstation Plus (the subscription required to play online) freebie a couple years back. I remember playing it on my PS4 and I know I wouldn't have spent money for it...
