Analyst Expects New VR Headsets from Facebook, Sony, and Apple in 2022

Ming-Chi Kuo a renowned Apple analyst has recently predicted that we will see at least three new XR products from Facebook, Sony, and Apple in 2022. These predictions come from an analysis of recent lens orders from Taiwanese manufacturer Yujingguang by the three companies. Yujingguang is expected to supply the lenses used in the upcoming Oculus Quest 3, and PlayStation VR 2 along with being a "key-supplier" for Apple's headset. These new lenses will offer an increased field of view and improved image clarity over existing options. The company expects to supply 50% of the demand for Oculus Quest 3 equal to 22 million units while their exact supply for the devices from Sony and Apple is unknown.

Not sure about apple and VR. Apple are more interested in AR , maybe AR glasses?

for playstation it was already know

not interested in Facebook but they seem to sell well. Think they are affordable because of ads and data collected

Oculus Quest 2 is a great product.
I use mine on my 3090FTW3 with DCS WORLD and it works great.
I'm sure Apple will do better.

Quest 2 with Airlink is the best for both casual VR and hardcore PCVR. Almost like The iPhone monent 3GS moment. I am curious to see how far Oculus can push it

They are more interested in AR but the tech isn't there yet. Leaks are saying they are working on a premium VR/AR HMD that will be released in 2022. It will have AR functionality but not like MS Hololens. It sounds like Quest 2 but with better cameras. John Carmack already said he wanted better cameras over the current black and white cameras to start working on AR. Apple's will be much smaller but higher priced as well.

I got to believe that Quest 3 will have both AR and VR as well along with being smaller and cheaper. I have to say it's pretty exciting. We can't forget about Valve's next HMD either. I just hope I can afford it. lol I'm already working on a budget for my company to get either Apple's AR/VR glasses or Facebook's.. but I really hope Valve has something ready as well.

Yeah, I'm interested to see what they will have but I don't see it surpassing FB's foothold on the VR market with Quest 2's price. I don't see FB releasing a Quest 3 in 2022. I do see them putting out a Quest 2 Pro and they have already stated that there will be a pro version coming. They haven't even tapped out the resources on Quest 2 yet. The Quest 2 needs more content and without backward compatibility for Quest 1.

The biggest holdback for Quest 2 right now is Quest 1. The Quest 1 was tapped out on hardware on release and DOA due to how hard it was to manufacture. It was just a proof of concept that got great traction. They had to figure out a way to manufacture them quicker and cheaper and at the time it made sense to put better hardware in it due to the age of the 835 snapdragon.

What's going to sell 1000+ dollar Apple AR glasses will be when the average person can afford to buy them by replacing their iPhone with their new AR glasses. This is what they are betting on and FB wants to do the same thing with their future AR glasses.

Sony, do yourself a favor and make your set compatible with PC without mods. You'll own the VR industry if you do. Doesn't have to be an out of this world set, just decent enough for the same price and you'll bury the ultra premiums.
