Hynix Receives DDR3 Validation from Intel

Hynix Semiconductor today announced it has received validation on its DDR3 memory components and modules from Intel. The newly-validated DDR3 products are 1GB DDR3 SDRAM Unbuffered-DIMMs manufactured on 80nm process technology. These devices have operating speeds from 800MHz to 1066MHz with reduced voltage to 1.5V. These speeds are offered in latency combinations of 5-5-5 and 6-6-6 for the 800MHz, and 7-7-7 for the 1066MHz memory modules. Mass production of the 1GB DDR3 on the 80nm line will begin in the third quarter of this year. Hynix plans to manufacture the product on a 66nm process beginning in late 2007.

so, for right now, all they really offer is lower voltage? Id like to see these things hit DDR2000

ddr3@ 1066 and 800 mhz? both of them are avaliable in ddr2 with lower latencies and much better prices, espically ddr2 800 mhz.

Yeah...it's gonna be a while before DDR3 is really worth even looking at. Hell DDR2 is still new and getting better every month. I think I'll stick out for a while with good DDR2 and OC the hell out of it and enjoy that route...although, if DDR3 had the same notches and could physically work in a DDR2 slot..you'd already have .3v overvoltage so you'd be more than ready to OC the living piss out of it! LoL

so, ddr3 is gonna need a new chipset w/ new mobo ? :wtf:
I should've waited for it lol.

Why? The current stuff is no faster than DDR2 with worse timings...there's really no benefit to you....unless you like to waste money. Wait 6 months to a year...then it should be good and prime, hopefully...

I WILL wait :) but does ddr3 need a new mobo, i.e with the P35 chipset or something ?!

From what I've read it has a different notch spacing than DDR2..and will require a DDR3 compatible MB, like DDR2 did when DDR was mainstream.

Uhh am i wrong in thinking that despite the timmings on these things they may still outperform DDR2 as the latency timmings work differently, kind of like DDR2 compared to DDR?
Think a bit more info on how DDR3 works compared to DDR2 is needed before anyone sees a good reason to buy the things.
