Reference NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Rumored to Launch at $749

According to the latest rumor coming from Moore's Law is Dead, the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 could have a higher MSRP than expected, and could launch at $749. Yesterday, another rumor pointed out that NVIDIA is splitting the reviews for the GeForce RTX 4070 on two dates, with reference models that are sticking to MSRP going out on April 12th, and custom, higher-priced versions, a day later, on April 13th. The same date, April 13th, is when the GeForce RTX 4070 should hit retail shelves.

According to Moore's Law is Dead, the MSRP for reference versions will be set at $749.99, which is a bit more than earlier expected, and just $50 less than the launch MSRP for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The custom versions, or "premium" as some now called them, could start at $799.99.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is also based on the AD104 GPU, as the RTX 4070 Ti, but has 46 streaming multiprocessors (SMs), leaving it with 5,888 CUDA cores enabled. On the other hand, it is rumored to come with the same memory configuration as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, featuring 12 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory on a 192-bit memory interface. The TGP is set at 200 W.

The performance is expected to land somewhere between the RTX 3080 Ti and the RTX 3080, or pretty much in line with the RX 6900 XT. Of course, a 50% bump in the launch price compared to the predecessor, the RTX 3070, leaves a rather sour taste.

This rumor doesn't make sense in terms of the positional linecup compared to the RTX 4070 ti. 50 dollars cheaper for atleast a 10% drop in performance on what has been a volume seller vs the RTX 3070 ti does not make sense. In terms of yields, this card should have great yields.

What I suspect is this is a false rumor done to do two things.

Help sell current stock of the RTX 3xxx series since this launch would effect current sales of the RTX 3080/3070/3060 ti. I.e If the RTX 4070 does launch in the 550 range, how do you think the current sales of the RTX 3xxx series I mention. They need to move maximum volume for those cards since 1 month launch is still a decent frame of cards to be sold.

Secondly is the lower expectations of pricing so if this card launch on the higher size like $599 peoples expectations are lower and the pricing of the RTX 4070 seems better than it is.

I still can't phantom what you're all arguing about, myself included.
This is just getting silly.
AMD is milking us just as NVIDIA does,
just like Intel does,
just like any AIB partner does.

I first wanted 7900xt, but after seeing what happened to my friend,
I wanted a 4070ti.
Now after thinking it through,
neither AMD nor NVIDIA deserves the money.

Because they are both giving a lot less than I'd pay for.

BoboOOZI think the usefulness of FG is very user dependent, it will leave some completely cold, while others will appreciate it.

I usually play Fortnite in Performance mode (very low graphical quality) because I want to be at 165FPS locked with my 6900XT for maximum responsiveness.

Today I tested it with epic Unreal Engine settings, which means 40FPS, just to see what my new OLED monitor can do. Well, I didn't mind the 40FPPS at all visually, just the lack of responsiveness in fights. Others, like Steve from Harbor Boxed, say they can't go under 120FPS. I think it's something very personal, I don't mind 40FPS in games at all. I hate 60FPS movies though, I find they lose all theatrical effect, I will get it back to 30 or 24frames ASAP.

So I think you may both be right.
For sure, currently imho it is only useful in single player games with maxed out RT like CP2077 and Witcher 3 NG.

The biggest issue with this card is over 2 years later it offers 16% more performance for 14% more money vs the 3080 at 4k and in some games it already runs out of gas when it comes to vram. Sure it's an ok 1440p card but at 800+ usd it should be better at 4k and not losing performance relative to its similar performing ampere counterparts. Not sure how anyone can defend this card even the 7900XT which is pretty meh is probably the better option at 800 usd.

Also its efficiently isn't even very impressive it uses 91% of the power of a 4080 and loses by 25%

The 4070 Ti isn't geared towards gaming at 4K and you should know that. It's geared for gaming at 1440.

sounds like a Made in Nvidia concocted what-do-you-think speculation @ $750. Testing the waters before dropping the fat tide

TBH, i'm not surprised! I had the 4070 estimated @ $700 with AIBs hitting ~$750/+. So i'm not gonna pretend i'm shocked at this speculated revelation... anyone expecting otherwise should have seen it coming with NVIDIAs **8* segment MSRP (as well as **9*). If they're taking a drunk p-i-s-s at the top, its gonna trickle down tier by tier.

Even $500 for these mid tier modern day calamities is quite an ask but something I wouldn't mind forking out on especially if it achieves the desired performance in specific games. Not that i'm interested, i was targeting a 4080 somewhere in the ~$800 region but the MSRP completely put me off with 40-series.... now simply not interested. NO MORE GPU UPGRADE!! NO MORE GPU UPGRADE!!

My used-bought 2080 TI is getting me by comfortably but could do better. Theres a solid chance for picking up a used 3080 for as little as £350 GBP -well thats the offer i put on the table for a card sitting untouched for several months and the 2 tits who could easily sell it to me without feeling a pinch just need to come out of "we might need it" and move on. Actually i do have access to it... i could just pull it out and put it to use.

All-praises to NVIDIA for being one of the most successful and hard-profiting hardware businesses in the world... a claw shackeling grip on the GPU market like you've never seen it.

but as a life-long consumer deserving better.... NVIDIA can stick the four zero seventy 4070 times up their own backside (as far as I'm concerned).

I don't think the 4070 to be released at 750. It's ridiculous.
Most likely at 649pounds/699dollars like the 3080.
And practically it's a joke since it will perform 99% toa 3080 level without the DLSS3.
nVidia put a very high price for the DLSS3, i believe because they had it ready.

AMD is 2 years behind in everything now. Even if we forget about the driver issues, the RT performance, the non existent CUDA alternative, the non nvenc alternative etc. etc., every feature comes with a year delay at best.

Yes and at 800 usd is a joke for a card if all its consistently good at is 1440p gaming. The only card it semi looks ok against is the similarly overprice 2080/2080 super. To me it's the biggest slap in the face to gamers in the ada lineup so far offering nothing new when it comes to performance vs ampere while costing more than the previous generations 80 tier card. I'm also not a fan of the 4080 at 1200 usd but at least it offered gamers something they couldn't get from previous generations performance wise.

Don't forget Nvidia wanted to call the 4070ti the 4080 12GB lmao and charge and extra $100 for it glad even they realized how stupid this would have made an already questionable product.

Only someone who is an extremely biased Nvidia fanboy can they look at this product with a straight face and think wow it's such a good deal I should get me one.

you shouldn't be so surprised... i still haven't got over $1200 for a 4080. lol when these cards were finally released i strangely found myself regularly checking online retailer prices as if they were somehow magically gonna drop in price to a more tolerable reality. $700-$750 for a 4070 is now a given - no more surprises!

Even though technically I can afford $1500-2000 gpus I am still worried about what direction 5000 series Nvidia cards will go... Let me be clear I might not like any card under the 4090 but what other people spend their money on is their own business at the same time nvidia doing the largest price increases gen on gen has me worried about what even a 5060 will look like....

From this point on it can only get worse...
When Intel gets their drivers under control, they will also jump on the money boat.
Makes no sense for them to give same performance for a lot less than the competition.

Nothing like a new NV lunch to shake that wasp nest of overpriced HW.

AMD might just got another gold ticket chance in the mid-range. They just need to drop their parents and 200$ of the RX7xxx equivalent to the joke that is 4070.

Yeah, I remember AMD GPU fanboys thinking they would be the savior from Nvidia's high prices even though historically at least during the last decade they've price their cards based on how they perform in comparison to what Nvidia is charging for a similar tier card usually 10-15% less because that seems like what the market will dictate anyways.

Anyways hopefully the rumors are wrong and it ends up being priced at 500-600 usd that still might not make it very good but at least it won't be also more expensive than the previous gens 80 card while performing almost the same.

We can only hope, but hopes are slim.
3080 was what? 700 dollars, now 4080 is 1200 dollars.
Here in the EU it's even worse.
I saw 4080 going with a tough 2000+ Euro price tag.

Well, once upon a time I wanted to upgrade...
Now I will just wait until my 1660 dies.

I'm certain these very same concerns are reverberating between the ears of the vast majority of performance driven GPU buyers - including myself. In-fact, i've already predetermined a plan of action on either grabbing something used (from trusted family/friends/colleagues) or settle with a long after launch possibly rip-off 5060/5070 providing it offers 4080-like performance. I've lost the high refresh rate 4K-appeal which is many ways is a bonus, something i was hoping to make possible alongside a top-end 3000-series upgrade - none of that happened! On a positive note, with all whats gone on in recent times its made me a little more content basing decisions on better value or just acceptance of not running with the tide with all things new, better and bigger. 1440p 144hz gaming is still a blast and something im more than happy to continue surfing the fun-hour waves with and anything that pulls 100-144fps in select titles on high quality would be a treat. Lowered expectations, accomplished performance targets and not parting with cash freely is the renewed focus opposed to impulsive cash splurges to the benefit of the not so considerate.

....nVidia put the 4080 and 4090 over the Amperes because of the existing stock of 3000 gpus. These Ada models never came to replace any of the Amperes. The 4070 and 4070Ti offer ''Ampere'' level performance, so they must be cheaper than them.
A few days ago nVidia removed some Ampere gpus from their shop. That's a first indication that gradually we are moving towards the Ampere replacement. But not yet.

The 4070 at 649pounds/699$ is still bad when a 3080 offered the same performance at the same price 2.5 years ago.
And yes, DLSS3 is what we pay for this gen but it shouldn't cost that much.

spanjamanI'd still buy 4070 rather than 7900xt and avoid loads of problems with AMD drivers...
Just a thought.
Every time Jensen reads this kind of posts, he laughs and then he sends an internal email to his marketing department, with one short line of text
"We can increase prices further. Please calculate higher price points for the next series"
spanjamanEvery driver iteration people have to root out previous drivers with DDU, I mean, come on...

You go ahead and buy your 7900xtx for 1100 dollars
I will do with my money whatever the hell I please

As for the drivers; I had black screen problem I had to fix on my friends 7900xt
Go and point your head to the real brick wall.

There are really some reeeeally stupid people writing on these forums...
I sometimes surprise myself but damn
to these people it's all about "ngreedia" when AMD does the same stuff with inferior product
They all know everything there is to know when they know so damn little

I had a real problem with a real 7900xt the other day
It was a nightmare to fix
Now that same person decided to take it back for a 4070ti
using his old 980 as a replacement

Who would buy something that can break with a new driver install?

I am not paying Nvidia neither AMD $1000 or more for 300W-500W overpriced furnaces. I am not paying $1000 for smartphones either, not paying double the price for PCIe 4.0 SSDs that offer almost nothing compared to PCIe 3.0 SSDs in real usage experience (I am full of mid range NVMe SSDs in 3 PCs), in any case I am not swallowing corporation marketing to make them happy.
You seem to want to pay $1000 for a card and also in need to justify this buy first to yourself. Well, good luck with that.

For me, to give them my money, they will first have to provide a sub $400-$500 mid range card that can be considered good value and I mean REALLY good value, not the lesser bad option, then I will happily buy. Going from my sub $300 budget rule, to over $400 is already a win for those corporations. But I do set a limit and that isn't going to be $1000 or more. It's not a financial problem, I can buy an RTX 4090 and just let it playback YouTube videos, I just don't want to feel (personally) as a complete stupid by paying $1000+ for a graphics card.
