AMD Unveils Radeon Adrenalin Edition 23.9.2 WHQL Driver

AMD has updated its Radeon Adrenalin driver with the latest edition, 23.9.2. The newest version brings unified driver support for AMD Radeon RX 7700 and RX 7800, which the previous driver lacked, and there was a separate download for these two SKUs. Besides merging into a single unified driver, the new update brings Lies of P, Party Animals, and The Crew Motorfest game support for AMD Radeon graphics. In this driver release, the AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ feature is introduced for Starfield, Witcher 3, ELDEN RING, Immortals of Aveum, and an Anti-Lag+ screen overlay for system latency. AMD fixed some issues like application crashing while playing Baldur Gate 3 with Vulkan API on RX 7900 XTX, limited GPU clock tuning on RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, application crash while playing SMITE on RX 7900 XTX, and application crash or driver timeout while playing F1 2023 on RX 7800 XT. There is no Cyberpunk 2077 update yet in this driver release.

You can download the Radeon Adrenalin Edition 23.9.2 Driver here.
See the full list of changes below:

New Game Support
  • Lies of P
  • Party Animals
  • The Crew Motorfest
Additional SDK Support
  • Microsoft Agility SDK Preview Release v1.711.3 including Shader Model 6.8 functionality for GPU Work Graphs (GWG)).
  • Microsoft Agility SDK Retail Release 1.610.5 including Enhanced Barriers and Vulkan on DX12 compatibility features.
New AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ Game Support
  • AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.9.2 introduces Anti-Lag+ support for Starfield, Witcher 3, ELDEN RING and Immortal of Aveum.
  • Up to 45% decrease in latency across select titles when AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ is on, using AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition ️ 23.9.2 on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU in select titles, versus when AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ is off. RS-597
  • AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ features an onscreen overlay that can be used to display the system latency of supported games. When Anti-Lag+ is enabled, the onscreen overlay can be toggled on using ALT+SHIFT+L hotkey.
  • Toggling the hotkey will first enable the status indicator of Anti-Lag+ (a white triangle), and then display latency in ms or number of frames.
  • To compare the difference between Anti-Lag+ and Anti-Lag, hold the DEL key. To compare the difference between Anti-Lag+ On and Off, hold the right CTRL key.
  • Use the ALT+SHIFT+F hotkey to monitor FPS when Anti-Lag or Anti-Lag+ is enabled in the game.
Fixed Issues
  • Application crash may be observed while playing Baldur's Gate 3 with Vulkan API set on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
  • GPU Clock may be artificially limited to 2700 MHz when performing manual tuning on Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT graphics.
  • Display may not reach correct brightness with certain games on select SAMSUNG FreeSync Premium Pro monitors or TVs with local dimming setting enabled.
  • Application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing SMITE on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
  • Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing F1 23 on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon RX 7800 XT.
Known Issues
  • Performance Metrics Overlay may report N/A for FPS on various games.
  • Audio may intermittently become out of sync with video when recording from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition with AV1 codec.
  • The display may intermittently freeze after changing the encoding format while streaming select games using AMD Link. Users experiencing this issue are suggested to select the desired encode format before streaming as a temporary workaround.
  • 23.9.1 WHQL (September 6th, 2023)
Important Notes
  • Factory Reset has been temporarily disabled as a precautionary measure while we address isolated installation issues that have been reported during PC upgrades. Users may use AMD Cleanup Utility as a temporary option.
  • Users pairing an RDNA based graphics product with either Polaris or Vega based graphics product are recommended to use the AMD Auto-Detect and Install Tool.

Super Firm TofuAnd here's what I get on a 6900XT. Stay classy AMD.

Happens to me daily on the laptop. Clean install your drivers and boot in safe mode without network, or just remove your lan cable and try again. It should theoretically work. Theoretically.

Sometimes stupid windows ruins everything, try:
- Stop windows update from installing drivers.
- DDU and install again.

AMD made a balls-up with the driver links on their website. Wrong driver for some RDNA cards, especially RDNA3. Lot of people getting the 182 error when trying to install.

Not my first rodeo.

Win 11 Pro and Windows driver updates are blocked by GP. About a week ago I installed 23.9.1 without issue.

File name that I downloaded is: whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-23.9.2-win10-win11-sep19.exe

Doesn't surprise me that AMD screwed up something as simple as posting drivers to their website.

Fell free to give Nvidia several billions, and they show all the code an documentation to AMD so they can implement it ;)

AMD should really have locked FSR 2 to newer AMD cards instead of making pre RTX cards last longer...

I have to test the new driver, no issues so far with installing older ones unless Windows is updating at the same time.
Intel usually takes some time until their links on there website give you the up do date drivers.

I already ran into this issue couple hours ago.

There are two seperate drivers for this release.

Polaris / Vega

www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-23-9-2-polaris-vega

RDNA 1,2,3

www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-23-9-2

If you install directly from the Adrenaline Software it will pickup the correct driver. If you downloaded the first driver and tried to manually install it on anything other than Polaris / Vega you get unsupported message.

I went directly to AMD's site, chose my hardware (RX 6000 Series, RX6900 series, RX6900XT) and used the link they provided to the driver, just like I've done for the past 4 years. The name of the file (as I posted above) did not include anything about vega/polaris.

As other people pointed out above, AMD f*cked up and posted the wrong drivers on their site.

But by all means, keep trying to AMDsplain everything to me......

Broken links can happen. I just hope they fix it soon. But it is curious why they have 2 different drivers.

For intel, every time the link is broken for several hours, and links to the old driver :D

The explanation is not just for you its for anyone reading this thread. And Glad you got it sorted I'm already on the driver as I fixed this many hours ago.

No need to be all in your feelings also you could have easily have ignored the post.

Not 100% sure but I think Polaris and vega maybe moving to legacy status soon. As they focus on RDNA 1 and up.

A Lagacy somewhat maintained driver (every 3 month some small games updates) might be nice :)

The old Lagacy drivers (22.6.1) broke the A10 7850k iGPU for me. HDMI caused funny colors on those chips. DVI worked flawlessly. Some 20.x.x also runs without issues.

To avoid headache, simply update the driver using the AMD software's built-in updater, and not using a broken OS (Windows 11).

I installed the last driver and windows decided it needed to fuck up my audio by installing a different driver. I wish they offered Windows 11 Game edition, or a boot time choice for a lean stripped down resource simplified version to game on.

Use the Pro edition and you won't get any of these problems. You also get group policy editor for more granular control and it's easier than mucking about with the registry.

If only they'd get off their butts and put out new desktop APUs

Will make a note of that when I move to Win 11 eventually so around 2025 when support is up.

Just tested this in Apex Legends. Anti-Lag+ gets it close to a RTX 4070 Ti/4080/4090 with Reflex On + Boost (3.8ms) at 5.2ms which is an impressive jump. Normal Anti-Lag was doing 8ms to 10ms. This is at 1080p360.

Using a 2,000Hz polling rate mouse at 240+ FPS (but still below the 300 FPS cap) is noticeably smoother. Supergliding (straight, not sideways) with a 60HE at 1.4mm actuation feels more consistent.

Will try it out in Elden Ring and see if quick step frame skipping is better.

gotta use the 1.2gb package for 6000 series downloadable from amd site.

HDR on freesync still not working on samsung displays. only way to fix it is editing EDID with CRU and adding a new FreeSync datablock.

I had a problem with this release. There was long freeze durning youtube playback (and maybe with other hardware accelerated elements). I did obvious updates for everthing (which didn't helped), but bios update works for this as a solution. There was Agesa update (AM4) from current 1.2.0.8 to new 1.2.0.A. Just a potential solution.
Edit. Ehh just half solution, some things still not work well.
