This Week in Gaming (Week 16)

As we enter the third week of April, things are looking up a bit when it comes to new game releases, at least if you're into RPG or adventure games. The major release this week is a new take on the action RPG genre that comes from a German developer. The rest of this coming week's releases involves episode two of a more humorous take on the zombie apocalypse, a halibut in space, some mildew, Waterworld in all but name and finally an eyeball.

No Rest for the Wicked / This week's major release / Thursday 18 April
From Moon Studios, the award-winning developers of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps comes No Rest for the Wicked, a visceral, precision Action RPG set to reinvent the genre. The year is 841 - King Harol is dead. As word of his death echoes throughout the kingdom, the crown passes to his arrogant, yet untested son Magnus. Even worse, the Pestilence, an unholy plague not seen for a thousand years, has returned. It sweeps across the land, corrupting everything and everyone it touches. Madrigal Seline, a ruthlessly ambitious figure in the church, sees the Pestilence as a chance to prove herself in the eyes of her god. Steam Link
Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse Ep2: Caged / Monday 15 April
Join Hank and Larry, two small defenseless animals, as they manipulate their way through the zombie apocalypse. Meet various characters and get them to scavenge for you while guiding them to "safety." Make life-or-death decisions, bargain, manage inventory, trade, and gamble. Steam Link
Harold Halibut / Tuesday 16 April
Harold Halibut is a handmade narrative game about friendship and life on a city-sized spaceship submerged in an alien ocean. It's been 250 years since your home - an ark-like spaceship - fled an Earth on the verge of cold war to find a habitable planet to preserve the human race. You are Harold, a young lab assistant for the ship's lead scientist, Jeanne Mareaux. While most of the ship's inhabitants have reconciled themselves to a life lived aboard the sunken ship, Mareaux still works tirelessly to find a way for the ship to leave the planet and find a new, dryer home. Steam Link
The Mildew Children / Wednesday 17 April
Featuring a blend of 2D adventure and visual novel, The Mildew Children is a grim tale about a village inhabited only by children who follow savage pagan traditions. A young witch named Kyrphel and her sisters are bound to perform a macabre Ritual in order to save their village. A witch's demise during the ritual is not unusual, since not all can triumph over the Mistress of Death. But Kyrphel is strong enough to handle it. Or so she thought. Steam Link
Age of Water / Thursday 18 April
Become a sea captain on a post-apocalyptic Earth completely covered in water and go on an adventure in a huge open world. Sail through storms, fight and trade, capture other people's boats or build your own, extract resources from the bottom of the ocean, reveal the secrets of the Age of Water world. Steam Link
Ants Took My Eyeball / Friday 19 April
Ants Took My Eyeball is a 2D action platformer roguelite. Descend into an ever-changing ant hill, fight your way through hordes of insects with a variety of weapons, face formidable bosses and ultimately find your stolen eyeball. Steam Link

ExcuseMeWtf
I'd go for a walk in the park, but ants took my eyeballs, and I'm afraid I'll just end up walking into things .

You'd have to ask the developer.

I like the graphics/art work of No rest for the wicked.

Ants - kind of similar to Noita

Good articles as well, put a few on list so far that never would have heard of.

Reinventing the genre is usually, oh we used a different pattern for the player model clothing.

thanks to positive changes in weather, I really did spend morning and now will be spending evening walking dogs in a park.

It is a precision action RPG, so not the usual fairly mindless button smashing. You do have to learn the moves of your opponents and time your attacks accordingly. The (pre-recorded) ‘live’ video on the steam product page explains this quite well. It looks pretty awesome, I can’t wait to try it.

SN2716057Harold Halibut looks interesting. Thx for the listing, @TheLostSwede
Did you see that the developer built models of everything in the game and then 3D captured the models to then animate them? Must've been a pain in the ass, but it does make for a unique look for sure.

I really like the cartoony visuals and the wacky premise of Scheming through the Zombie Apocalypse. The various mechanics and possible outcomes also sound interesting.
And Harold Halibut... holy cow! Just think about the amount of work that went into this game:
