Sony Interactive Entertainment Launches the PlayStation 5 Pro

Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment expands the PlayStation 5 (PS5) family of products with the release of the new PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) console - the company's most advanced and innovative gaming console to date. PlayStation 5 Pro was designed with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind and includes key performance features that allow games to run with higher fidelity graphics at smoother frame rates.

"With PlayStation 5 Pro, we wanted to make sure that the most dedicated gamers, as well as game creators, could utilize the most advanced console technology, taking the PlayStation 5 experience even farther," said Hideaki Nishino, CEO Platform Business Group, Sony Interactive Entertainment. "This is our most advanced PlayStation to date, and it gives our community of players the opportunity to experience games the way that developers intended for them to be. Players will be thrilled with how this console enhances some of their favorite titles, while opening avenues to discover new ones."
  • Upgraded GPU: 67% more Compute Units than the current PlayStation 5 console and 28% faster memory enabling up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: Providing more dynamic reflection and refraction of light allowing the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PlayStation 5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: Introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
Game creators have embraced the latest technology from PlayStation 5 Pro, and several games will be upgraded with free PS5 Pro Enhanced software updates to take advantage of the console's features including: Alan Wake 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, F1 24, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta, No Man's Sky, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and many more.

The PlayStation 5 Pro console is available now at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax). It will include a 2 TB solid state drive, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of Astro's Playroom pre-installed in every PlayStation 5 Pro purchase. PlayStation 5 Pro also launches with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard.

redeyegot mine…

and….

not gonna happen… (just pay the tab and get one, the red controller looks really good)

but swapping the sticks for hall-effect is an “open-heat surgery” (and not really for the “ faint of heart “, but the controller is “broken“ so what is the worst that can happen? deal), but if you have a vacuum-aided desoldering station It is easier (I wrecked my controller doing the “open-heat surgery” thing using a solder-sucker.
i was do inpatient to find the solderwick, or rebuy it)
so either get the solderwick, or a desoldering station.
(the hall sticks are about 20 on aliexpress)
Well black friday is coming, however I think it wont drop as much as last year, Amazon have started listing the MSRP higher than pre PS5 pro (although so far they are still selling at the usual price). If it doesnt drop black friday, its going on my xmas list lol.

Annoying this is, I started checking every week or so back in may, then by accident missed a couple of weeks which happened to be the summer sale.

As a customer I shouldnt be expected to use a soldering device to fix or mod something I buy, all they need to do is make it hall effect as standard. Or make the edge controller the standard at same price as main controller. At the very least stick a reasonable warranty on it, one reason I refuse to buy at normal price is I plan to add the extended warranty package to it like I did on my xbox controller, I think for controllers extended warranties are a complete no brainer.

"today a console without a stand, tomorrow without games" - yep as long as she keeps looking pretty with more lines of coke, they'll buy it!

Is anyone buying this? I want one, but I'm disappointed. Price is stupid and improvement seems to be unseen.

So can't justify spending more than 500. More so if it doesn't have a disc reader. I'm ok~ish renting the games, but if there is something i like i want to buy it physically . Not having that option out of the shelves is weird.

I hope it goes on sale, or old model gets cheaper soon.

Coil noise ? If anything mine is silent compared to my ps5, which is silent also.

that coil whine might be because of the disk drive.

been comparing Horizon Forbidden west (ps5pro) to the ps5 version , PS5pro is slightly better (moot point if the PC is better, while i do have a 7900XTX, I do not have an HDR monitor, and IMO Win11 does not do HDR on my TVset very well, the ps5pro does HDR very well on my Sony 950g… no VRR, or 120Hz..)

in the end, the ps5pro looks better, not as “Phat”… yet, even the gray camo side plates for the Ps5 OG disc can not hide it. LOL. I am using the included stand feet.

Bypassing upgrades for my PCs this year. I purchased this instead. 4070 performance for the price of a 4070. PC hardware has become very expensive over the last 5 years, and I’m not willing to keep investing.

I have been annoyed with Sony since the PS4. 8 months after I bought mine, they did the pro version, or whatever it was.

Sony stole a page right out of Apples playbook with their incremental updates.

It doesnt make sense really.

How many games are there? Barely any. Like a handful of exclusives. How many are unplayable? None since its optimized for the system. I find upgrades to be silly for consoles and it would be better to just start work on the next console. But there are buyers for it, there are people on this forums who did. So there is always a way to part money from fools.

Anyway, my PS5 non pro works fine. I'll live with it.

LionheartHow do you know it's RDNA 2 still? More like a customized mobile RX 7800M with improved RT tech. Honestly no one knows, unless you're Sony/AMD engineers.
Looking at the performance numbers, I would say even less performance than RX 7800M is being achieved thus far. I am assuming that it isn't a software issue to be resolved later.

Practically the worst Playstation launch ever. Even the horrible PS Classic wasn't this bad of a release.

Practically 975EUR with the disc drive is just terrible.
