Intel to get CrossFireX on P45 Chipsets
After the merger between AMD and ATI last year, some doubt was cast upon the relationship between ATI (the firm's graphics division) and major CPU rival Intel. However, it looks like any fears have been put to rest according to DigiTimes, which is claiming that Intel has received a license to support CrossFireX on its upcoming P45 chipsets. Both AMD and Intel have declined to comment.

P45 with CrossFireX? Sounds like it's going to shame the X48 (which has been delayed, and will release close to the P45). Have as many (or more) PCIe lanes as the X48 and support 1600FSB. What does the X48 have left? XMP? Meh...
Also, Jimmy, it should read License, not licence ;)
NV has integrity. They didn't budge in giving away SLI to Intel and their interests so far as chipset sales go are secured.
AMD has everything to lose: By licensing Crossfire X they gave away Intel the sole USP that would've made people opt for a AMD processor and AMD chipset, four-card Crossfire.
Desperation....what can we say? Intel and NV are a win win. Whether or not AMD processors are used, people would continue to buy Intel processors and NV hardware.
Poor stupid AMD. Cut-throat competition, my friends. Things are going to get dirtier in the industry. ^That's very utopian.
remember how SLI first came to AMD in the form of nForce 4 SLI ? and ppl swarmed to AMD camp just to be able to use it? later NV made a SLI (intel edition chipset)
As far as stability of nvidia chipsets vs. Intel... Intel is the winner. With nvidia you're pretty much gambling, but with Intel, when they say something works, you know it works. That's not to say nvidia doesn't make good chipsets tho. They really just need to open SLI up to everyone already!
I use the British English and realize is spelled as realise, color as colour.
I never got into the QC of Intel and NV chipsets so can't comment on the quality and that's also off-topic. I at least stuck to ATI Crossfire and went on with presenting my contention.
So, you know, AMD didn't buy ATI just for the video cards, they also bought them for the chipsets they made (because AMD chipsets have always sucked). Now, the 790FX chipset is very (and I mean very) nice. Although having Crossfire X technology on high end intel chips I feel is a blow to Nvidia much more than a blow to AMD.
AMD's gotta make some money. At least the ATI acquisition is paying off. Who really knows if AMD processors would have tanked if the hadn't bought ATI? I'm sure the guys in the ATI dept. didn't want to license out X-Fire, but unfortunately, they probably don't have as much say in it as they thought. You never know, maybe Intel will start making video cards that work in X-Fire, then their cards would work on AMD boards as well. AMD could bust out some fancy new shiny processor and become the #1 pick again, with Intel video working on their homemade boards.
I like the move, and nVidia should jump on it as well. Even more hardware compatibility to give M$ a headache over the next iteration of Windows. Compatibility ftw!
layed is the word you were looking for. but rested really fits better. thats why it didnt make any sense to anyone else.
perhaps with ATI/AMD pushing further into the chipset market, they might end up with an under-the-radar winner here. ATI's chipsets were pushing what onboard video was capable of, and are incredibly stable, too. Perhaps they're looking at it from the point where if they've got a decent part of the chipset market (or at least involved with it), they might be able to influence newer chipset architectures enough that it could boost the performance of their GPU's - better BUS handling and interface would defi help out how well their cards run overall.
Hmmm . . . the plot thickens . . .
Nearly all people who are using SLI or crossfire are high-end enthusiasts. So why would an enthusiast give up their Q6700 and switch to AMD just to have crossfire; when they can get SLI instead and keep their über processor? If AMD didn't license crossfire to Intel, the only multi-gpu option for enthusiasts would be SLI. Sales for high-end ATI cards would tank. This will only change when AMD has the CPU performance crown again, which won't happen anytime soon... It may never happen.
And This are some interesting points. and whats up with all the flaming? I thought that techpowerup transcends such immature behavior, sheech
