Galax Reportedly Preparing GeForce RTX GPU Price Cuts

A recent report published by BoardChannels points to Galax possibly implementing a broad set of price cuts across its range of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 and 30-series custom graphics card models. Insider information originating from sources within a pool of NVIDIA and AMD board partners suggests that Galax could be shaving off up to 1000 RMB (around $140) from certain Ampere and Ada Lovelace products - effective later this month in its native Hong Kong market as well as mainland China.

The article posits that GeForce RTX 4080 cards could end up becoming 1000 RMB cheaper, and popular RTX 3060 models receiving cuts of around 250 RMB (≈$35). Galax is reported to have already offered entry-level desktop GeForce RTX 3050 cards at lower prices in the latter half of May - with 140 RMB (≈$19.50) reductions. The RTX 4070 series is supposedly set to receive a measly discount of around 150 to 200 RMB (≈$21 to $28), which is likely not doing it many favors given slow worldwide uptake since the product range's launch in mid-April. Galax could be making adjustments to fall in line with rivals (in the region) who have already reduced asking prices for NVIDIA gaming hardware.

Leadtek Showcases NVIDIA GeForce WinFast RTX 40-series Hurricane Models at Computex 2023

Leadtek revealed its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Hurricane custom graphics card at the tail end of last month. The latest refresh of the company's Hurricane cooling solution looked very space age with its curved central X-formation design. Leadtek has chosen to expand upon this aesthetic with bigger brother NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series cards shown off at Computex this week. The company's WinFast GPU lineup has grown with the additions of RTX 4090 Hurricane 24G, RTX 4080 Hurricane 16G, RTX 4070 Ti Hurricane 12G and RTX 4070 Hurricane 12G models.

All of these units sport metal backplates, but there are some differences in the makeup of attached cooling solutions. The RTX 4090 and 4080 models are cooled by a triple (100 m) fan array and eight heat pipes. The RTX 4070 Ti sports three "large" fans (size not specified) and six heat pipes. The RTX 4070 (non-Ti) makes do with only a pair of "large" fans, but has the same number of heat pipes (six) as its immediate sibling, albeit packed into a much shorter surround.

ASUS Shows Concept GeForce RTX 4070 Without Power Connector

At its Computex 2023 showcase and ASUS HQ tour for the press, the company has unveiled a new ASUS ROG concept graphics card based on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 design, that actually has no standard power connectors, but draws power from the motherboard via a proprietary slot.

As noted, the graphics card is still in its concept phase, and actually draws power from a special PCIe like slot connector at the bottom of the graphics card. Of course, this also means that it will need a special motherboard, which ASUS had on display as well. The motherboard is based on a Z790 TUF Gaming motherboard, with a design that had all the connectors at the back of the motherboard. In addition to the standard power and other connectors like SATA ports, it also includes three 8-pin PCIe and single 12VHPWR connector, which are meant to power the graphics card. Of course, such motherboard also requires a special PC case that have cut-outs for those connectors.

Leadtek Copies NVIDIA's Homework - Debuts Custom GeForce RTX 4070 Card With Blower Design

It was reported earlier this morning that Leadtek was preparing a new custom design NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card - Tom's Hardware pointed out that South Korea's National Radio Research Agency had uploaded a registration for a "RTX 4070 AI BLOWER" VGA card on behalf of "Leadtek Research Inc." The article delves into a possible scenario, based on the model name alone, of Leadtek producing a cooling solution that reflects NVIDIA's blower-style reference design. Team Green has gained quite the reputation for being protective of that blueprint, despite its Founders Edition lineup of gaming-oriented cards shifting to a traditional cooling solution (back in the RTX 20-series days). Board partners are normally expected to devise their own/unique cooling solutions, and NVIDIA has mostly reserved the blower + vapor chamber combination for its professional GPU model lineups.

Leadtek has created a product page for their new custom card this afternoon, and it is immediately clear that this morning's prediction was somewhat correct. The WinFast RTX 4070 AI BLOWER 12G sports a "streamlined" yet boxy black cooling solution that appears to be closer in appearance to an NVIDIA RTX A-series professional card, although a flash of silver trim and logo on the fan provides a bit of "gamer" visual language. Leadtek's specification info states that their AI Blower cooler features an aluminium die cast housing alongside a copper finned vapor chamber. The lone mounted fan is said to have a 50,000 hour operational lifespan thanks to a special internal arrangement: "WinFast double ball bearing fan provides better reliability, higher dust resistance levels, and moreso keeps friction and noise to a minimum." Tom's Hardware posited that Leadtek's custom card would be marketed as an enterprise product (for AI processing) - the freshly uploaded product page does position it for those purposes, but the rundown also mentions its supposed gaming performance prowess.

NVIDIA Confirms Founders Edition Only for RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB

NVIDIA has confirmed that the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB and the RTX 4060 8 GB non-Ti won't be getting the Founders Edition version as this will be reserved only for the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB that comes on May 24th.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB Founders Edition looks similar to the RTX 4070 version, except for a slight color change, where the RTX 4060 Ti will be getting the silver shroud. The Founders Edition were highly sought after as they offered both impressive cooling as well as better overclocking potential. Such a move also means that NVIDIA won't be competing directly with its add-in-card (AIC) partners with the RTX 4060 8 GB or the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB which are both launching in July.

NVIDIA Explains GeForce RTX 40 Series VRAM Functionality

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 Final Specs, Performance, and Prices Leaked

VideoCardz struck the mother lode with information on the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 "Ada" graphics cards, by scoring key slides from the NVIDIA press-deck. But first, the prices: When it goes on sale later this month, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will be priced at USD $399. Its 16 GB sibling goes on sale in July, priced at $499. The company didn't finalize the pricing of the RTX 4060, yet. Without disclosing the CUDA core count (rumored to be 4,352), NVIDIA revealed that the RTX 4060 Ti has a shader compute throughput of 22 TFLOP/s, which is 37.5% higher than that of the RTX 3060 Ti.

The specs also confirm that the RTX 4060 Ti has a significantly narrower memory bus, at 128-bit, compared to the 256-bit of the RTX 3060 Ti, and 192-bit of the RTX 4060. With "Ada," NVIDIA overhauled the memory sub-system of the GPU, with greater on-die cache reliance, which allows the company to use narrower memory interfaces and cut costs. Both memory variants of the RTX 4060 Ti come with a TGP of 160 W. which means even the faster custom-design boards should be able to make do with a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. The GeForce RTX 4060 is designed with 15% higher shader throughput than the previous-generation RTX 3060, which is 6% shy of the RTX 3060 Ti. The most striking aspect of this card is its TGP of just 115 W, which should make it technically possible to have cards with even single 6-pin PCIe power connectors.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti Rumored to Launch at $399 and $499

According to the latest rumor, the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti could be priced at $399 for the 8 GB and $499 for the 16 GB version. As rumored earlier, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB version is scheduled to launch on May 24th, while the 16 GB version will be launching in late July. The latest rumor comes from MEGAsizeGPU over at Twitter, who has a pretty good record when it comes to leaks, and was actually the first to leak the launch dates.

At $399, the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB has the same launch price as the RTX 3060 Ti, back in December 2020. As said, the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB is rumored to launch on May 24th. AMD is also rumored to lift the review embargo for the Radeon RX 7600 graphics card on the same day, with availability expected on May 25th, so it will be an interesting battle for the mid-range market. At $499, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB version sounds a bit overpriced, and it will make it $100 cheaper than the GeForce RTX 4070. In the meantime, MSI RTX 4060 Ti Ventus 3X graphics card has been leaked by a French retailer, showing the card in its full glory. Unfortunately, the price was put just as a placeholder, so we do not have a lot more details. While the listing was removed in the meantime, Videocardz snatched a screenshot.

NVIDIA Has Stopped Making GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GPUs, According to Industry Leaks

A Taiwanese PC hardware news outlet, Benchlife, has been talking to insider sources positioned within several of NVIDIA's add-in-board (AIB) partners - the author reports that these organizations are experiencing significant changeovers. The AIB informants indicate that production of GeForce RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti models is accelerating, following rumors of the older Ampere-based RTX 3060 Ti card being discontinued. The article's author was seeking further clarification and confirmation from industry insiders, given that most of the recent leaks have emerged from Chinese technology discussion boards. Forumites have posited that NVIDIA has stopped supplying its AIB partners with RTX 3060 Ti silicon. It is difficult to tell whether (via translation) the AIB tipsters have concluded that the older card is totally done for, but NVIDIA is prioritizing the launch of new products.

It would make sense for Team Green to clear the way for the much newer Ada Lovelace-based lineups, but their entry level RTX 3060 cards have remained firm favorites with PC hardware buyers, so it could be quite tricky to play catch up with succeeding product lines. NVIDIA's component suppliers have stated (back in mid-April) that RTX 4000-series GPU production was not ramping up, due to a possible slow uptake of existing cards - in particular the recently released RTX 4070. Given the vast popularity of budget graphics card models, it seems that NVIDIA is preparing to embrace that market segment once again with its latest offerings - due for launch at the end of this month.

NVIDIA to Launch RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB on May 24th and AMD Radeon RX 7600 Comes on May 25th

A more detailed launch schedule for both the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 lineup and AMD Radeon RX 7600 has now surfaced online, suggesting that NVIDIA could launch the first RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB on May 24th, a day before the AMD Radeon RX 7600, making it a rather busy week for reviewers.

Videocardz managed to confirm that NVIDIA plans to announce all three RTX 4060 series SKUs in mid-May, but only the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB will actually launch in May. The current schedule puts the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB for the second half of July, and the RTX 4060 8 GB for the first half of July. Interestingly, the rumored date for AMD Radeon RX 7600 8 GB graphics card is set for May 25th, just a day after NVIDIA's scheduled launch. Of course, these dates are not carved in stone and both AMD and NVIDIA could easily change them. Hopefully, we'll hear more as we draw closer to the end of this month.
  • RTX 4060 Ti 8G: Announcement: Mid-May, Release: May 24th

AMD Marketing Compares Last-Generation GPUs: Radeon RX 6800 vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

As we await the launch of AMD's remaining lineup of Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs like RX 7800 XT, RX 7700 XT, etc., AMD's marketing department is comparing last-generation products against each other. Sasa Marinkovic, Senior Director of Gaming Marketing at AMD, has posted a Tweet that initially claimed to compare AMD Radeon RX 6800 16 GB gaming performance versus NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB card in ray tracing and rasterization. However, the follow-up Tweet cleared that the chart is a comparison for rasterization performance only, and no ray tracing has been enabled. In an odd move to compare last-generation solutions, it is logical to do so from a price perspective, as both GPUs can be found at relatively the same price point at retailers like Newegg.

As far as the performance, the chart shows a comparison of the average FPS at 1440p. In titles like Valorant, Radeon RX 6800 can achieve 31% higher FPS. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3070 was only faster in Metro Exodus, GTA V, and Dota 2, while the remaining titles benefitted Radeon RX 6800. You can check the chart below.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Variant Could be Refreshed With AD103 GPU

Hardware tipster kopite7kimi has learned from insider sources that a variant of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 graphic card could be lined up with a different GPU - the AD103 instead of the currently utilized AD104-derived AD104-250-A1. The Ada Lovelace-based architecture is a staple across the RTX 40-series of graphics cards, but a fully unlocked AD103 is not yet attached to any product on the market - it will be a strange move for NVIDIA to refresh or expand the mid-range RTX 4070 lineup with a much larger GPU, albeit in a reduced form. A cut down variant of the AD103 is currently housed within NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card - its AD103-300-A1 GPU has 9728 CUDA Cores and Team Green's engineers have chosen to disable 5% of the full article's capabilities.

The hardware boffins will need to do a lot of pruning if the larger GPU ends up on the rumored RTX 4070 sort-of upgrade - the SKU's 5,888 CUDA core count spec would require a 42% reduction in GPU potency. It is somewhat curious that the RTX 4070 Ti has not been mentioned by the tipster - you would think that the more powerful card (than the standard 4070) would be the logical and immediate candidate for this type of treatment. In theory NVIDIA could be re-purposing dies that do not meet RTX 4080-level standards, thus salvaging rejected material and repurposing it for step down card models.
