EK Launches Quantum Vector Active Backplate Waterblocks for MSI Trio and Suprim RTX 3090/3080 GPUs

EK, the leading computer cooling solutions provider, is introducing another long-awaited addition to the EK Quantum Line. The EK-Quantum Vector TRIO RTX 3080/3090 active backplate is made to complement the existing EK-Quantum Vector TRIO RTX 3080/3090 water blocks and actively cool the backside of MSI TRIO and SUPRIM GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 GPUs.

EK-Quantum Vector TRIO RTX 3080/3090 Active Backplate links the water block and active backplate with a new terminal, which replaces the stock terminal that comes with your water block. This way, the whole enclosure requires only one inlet and one outlet, removing unnecessary additional tubing and reducing clutter. It is the ultimate aesthetic and performance solution that finds your GPU sandwiched between two water blocks, allowing maximum cooling.

The RTX 3090 SUPER and RTX 2060 12 GB launches have been expected for some time but this is the first mention we have seen of an RTX 3070 TI 16 GB.

Alphacool Announces Eiswolf 2 360mm AIO VGA Coolers for GIGABYTE RTX 3080/3090 Cards

Alphacool today presents the Eiswolf 2 "All-in-One" solution for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/3090 Gigabyte Gaming/Eagle graphics cards. The Eiswolf 2 uses the Alphacool 360 mm NexXxoS ST30 full copper radiator. For the fans, we use the 120 mm Alphacool Aurora Rise. This impressive fan with a max. static pressure of 3.17 mm/H2O, offers a max. air flow of 119.8m3/h. The speed range of the fan, from 0-2500rpm, is adjustable via PWM. The AIO is completed by the Eisblock Aurora water cooler. This not only cools the GPU chip, but actively cools all relevant components such as the memory and VRAM. It also has brilliant aRGB lighting.

All components used (radiator, fan, cooler, DC-LT 2 pump) including fittings and tubing are part of the Alphacool DIY range and are therefore available separately. The combination of all components results in a solution that is as easy to install as an AIO, but offers the performance of a pre-assembled and pre-filled custom loop. Only the pump housing for the DC-LT 2 pump is a custom-made item that is only part of the scope of delivery of the AIO solution and is therefore not available separately.

EK Vector FE Special Edition Water Block and Torque Fittings win iF Design Awards

With last year's success of the EK-Quantum Magnitude CPU water block, the EK-Quantum Line has received two new iF DESIGN AWARDS this year. In the Gaming Hardware product category, one was granted to the EK-Quantum Vector FE Special Edition GPU water block. It is the most complex GPU water block enclosure as a cooling solution that EK has developed to date. It was engineered for the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series Founders Edition graphics cards and comes with a backplate that makes sure the entire graphics card is enclosed and not visible at all.

Forming a halo product for the Vector family of GPU blocks, the FE Special Edition came with a distinctive set of challenges. Built as an aftermarket product for Founders Edition RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards, the block had to negotiate the irregular PCB shapes and unorthodox assembly. However, as a result of these challenges, several design opportunities were leveraged to create a totally unique and unprecedented GPU water block. A solid aluminium exoskeleton forms a cradle in which the cooling and lighting are embedded, revealing only the most beautiful elements to the user.

Even As Graphics Card Prices Skyrocket, Build Quality on the Decline?

So you finally fork out four-figures for a performance-segment graphics card that had a $350 predecessor a couple of generations ago, and what do you find? Misaligned thermal pads, poorly installed cooling, and other build quality flaws. Reddit and other social media platforms show a noticeable increase in people with fairly premium graphics cards that have manufacturing defects that can lower the product life. One such user, kamaloo92, posted pictures of an ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti OC with a missing block of thermal pads over a row of memory chips. GDDR6X chips are capable of heating in the high-90s Celsius, and a poorly cooled block of memory can cause artifacting in the long run. This, from a company that prides itself in its manufacturing standards.

Another horror story comes from obamaprism3, who posted pictures of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition with a poorly installed memory thermal pad that was so placed so far off, that it overlapped with the cooler's main base, posing severe risk of overheating and performance loss to the GPU. Staying with Founders Edition, a user named antonyjeweet discovered a worker's finger cot stuck under a memory thermal pad of their insanely expensive RTX 3090 Founders Edition card. Recently, we did the story of a PowerColor RX 6700 XT with protective film over thermal pads still in place.

EK Announces Quantum Vector RTX 3080/3090 FE Full Metal Water Blocks

EK, is proud to show off its Full-Metal Special Edition high-performance GPU water blocks for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 Founders Edition graphics cards. The EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3080 and 3090 - Full Metal water blocks come in the more popular Black color, featuring a black, completely metal enclosure with a nickel-plated brass terminal. These water blocks come with two types of connection terminals, offering versatility in tube routing. The performance is one of the key elements of the design, which is why this block features a 30% larger fin area compared to other water blocks from the Vector family.

The EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3090 D-RGB water block enclosure is the most complex GPU cooling solution developed by EK to date. Aside from the small form factor and unique shape of these PCBs, EK has built a hybrid cooling solution for the backplate that is so far unique to the EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3090 water blocks and their backplates.

EVGA Reveals that Bad Soldering Was the Culprit behind Bricked RTX 3090 Cards

When Amazon Studios released the closed beta for their upcoming New World MMO users begun to report that the game was causing catastrophic failure of their RTX 3090 graphics cards. This issue appears to have disproportionately affected EVGA cards with initial analysis indicating that the cause could have been with the fan controller malfunctioning evident by the bad readings received from third-party monitoring tools. This behavior was determined to not be the cause of card failures with monitoring working correctly when using the EVGA Precision X1 software. EVGA found that the fan controller issue was related to noise on the communication bus which their software could filter out and have released a micro-controller update that fixes monitoring with third-party tools.

The cause of the dead cards has now been determined by EVGA to be the result of a rare soldering issue limited to a small batch of cards. EVGA performed X-ray analysis on a selection of broken cards returned to them and found that the soldering around the MOSFET circuits had "poor workmanship". EVGA also confirmed that this issue was only present on early production runs in 2020 and affects less than 1 percent of all the RTX 3090 cards manufactured by the company. Amazon Game Studios have also added a frame limiter to New World that will ensure this issue won't appear in new versions of the game.
EVGAAll of the cards were earlier production run cards manufactured in 2020. Under an X-ray analysis, they appear to have "poor workmanship" on soldering around the card's MOSFET circuits that powered the impacted cards.

NVIDIA Readying GeForce RTX 3090 SUPER, A Fully Unlocked GA102 with 400W Power?

NVIDIA is readying the GeForce RTX 3090 SUPER, the first "SUPER" series model from the RTX 30-series, following a recent round of "Ti" refreshes for its product stack. According to kopite7kimi and Greymon55, who each have a high strike-rate with NVIDIA rumors, the RTX 3090 SUPER could finally max-out the 8 nm "GA102" silicon on which nearly all high-end models from this NVIDIA GeForce generation are based. A fully unlocked GA102 comes with 10,752 CUDA cores, 336 Tensor cores, 84 RT cores, 336 TMUs, and 112 ROPs. The RTX 3090 stops short of maxing this out, with its 10,496 CUDA cores.

NVIDIA's strategy with the alleged RTX 3090 SUPER will be to not only max out the GA102 silicon, with its 10,752 CUDA cores, but also equip it with the fastest possible GDDR6X memory variant, which ticks at 21 Gbps data-rate, compared to 19.5 Gbps on the RTX 3090, and 19 Gbps on the RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti. At this speed, across the chip's 384-bit wide memory bus, the RTX 3090 SUPER will enjoy 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth. Besides more CUDA cores, it's possible that the GPU Boost frequency could be increased. All this comes at a cost, though, with Greymon55 predicting a total graphics power (TGP) of at least 400 W, compared to 350 W of the RTX 3090. A product launch is expected within 2021.

EVGA Begins Replacing GeForce RTX 3090 Cards Bricked by New World, Problem Not Localized to RTX 3090

In case you missed it, the closed beta of Amazon's upcoming MMO, "New World," has been found bricking (rendering useless) certain GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards; ones that are supposed to be mighty powerful for a fairly average-looking game, visually. EVGA has come forward to announce that RTX 3090 cards bricked by the MMO are fully covered under the product warranty, and eligible for replacement. Hot Hardware reports that EVGA has been honoring RMA and warranty claims from its RTX 3090 product owners.

Meanwhile, JayzTwoCents tweeted that the problem with New World may not be localized to the RTX 3090, with graphics card owners across a multitude of GPUs, including from the GeForce RTX 30-series, Radeon RX 6000 series, and even RX 500 "Polaris," reporting shut-downs and failures when running the game. On its part, Amazon's game studio said that it is working on a patch that fixes the game. The company is free from liability, as this is a closed beta, and everyone who installs these agree to a license that absolves the developer of liability from damage to property resulting from its use.

New World (Closed Beta), an MMO, Found Bricking GeForce RTX 3090 Graphics Cards

A closed beta of "New World," an MMO in development by Amazon Game Studios, is found damaging NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards. Apparently the game causes a catastrophic failure of RTX 3090 graphics cards, even before it begins rendering the scene. "I just bricked a 3090 in the main menu after setting my graphics quality to medium and hitting save," wrote one user on Reddit.

Amazon in a statement on Wednesday, said that it has received two reports from RTX 3090 users on high GPU usage when playing the game, "consistent with playing a graphically rich game." It is said to be working on a patch that addresses the issue, but in the meantime, urged users to dial down their graphics settings. EVGA has come out with a statement of its own, saying that its RTX 3090 graphics cards getting bricked for playing the game would be "completely under warranty."

Hydrogen Series Makes a Comeback, MSI Preparing GeForce RTX 3090 Model

MSI's iconic Hydrogen series of graphics cards are making a comeback. According to the latest Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) listings, we have information about the latest addition to MSI's lineup of graphics cards. For starters, MSI has filled EEC reports about its upcoming GeForce RTX 3060 LHR variants, which feature an updated GA106-302 GPU. The new cards will carry the LHR name as a part of the official product name, to be easily separated from non-LHR variants, so buyers know exactly what model they are getting.

Additionally, MSI is seemingly making a comeback of its Hydrogen series. Hydrogen lineup used to be popular with GeForce GTX 580 Hydrogen card, which delivered awesome overclocking performance enabled by a water block strapped onto the card. If MSI brings the series back, it will come in the form of the GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen model, which could represent the highest-end RTX 3090 design from the company. It remains to be seen what MSI does with it, and if we are getting it at all, so we have to wait for more information.

Secondary Market GPU Pricing in Downtrend, Better Times to be a Gamer May be Ahead

Millions of bytes have been written regarding the current GPU market conditions already, which pairs strained logistics channels due to COVID-19 with increased quarantine-fueled demand by gamers - while also throwing in semiconductor manufacturing woes, miners, and scalpers. All in all, it seems that miners and scalpers managed to get their hands on roughly 25% (around 700,000) of distributed current-gen graphics cards during Q1 2021 which, for some reason, seems much lower than the general perception on their impact on this market.

With that said, Reddit user @gregable aggregated daily pricing for GPUs on Ebay and then calculated the GPU's $/hashrate for Ethereum mining. With hashrates remaining steady for graphics cards, this effectively establishes a price trend for GPUs. The news are good, for once: prices are falling, with the average $ cost per MH falling from $26 on May 16th down to $20 as of yesterday. The move is supported mostly by price drops on high hash-rate graphics cards such as the RTX 3090 (a 32% price drop during this period) and RTX 3080/RTX 3070 graphics cards (which dropped by 25%).

Strictly Quantum: EK Shows New Velocity2 CPU Blocks, Lignum GPU Block, Real Gold Fittings and More!

EK Water Blocks, or simply EK as the company refers to itself now, had a decent showing at the virtual Computex 2021 event including new AIO CPU coolers, additions to its Fluid Gaming and Fluid Works portfolio, and more water blocks based on current designs and supporting newer hardware, including one we reported on just a few hours ago. These all interested me, but then there was a nearly two hour private conversation followed by a live stream that ended minutes ago which shed more light on future updates and products in its mainstream Quantum DIY liquid cooling lineup.

There were renders of the upcoming Velocity² CPU blocks shared before, but seeing them actually manufactured is a whole other thing. Velocity² is the update to EK's popular Velocity CPU blocks, with a complete redesign that evokes more comparisons to monoblocks than other CPU blocks. Taking cues from the flagship EK-Quantum Magnitude, you will see different cooling engines to better cool different CPU sockets. There is also a concealed aesthetic theme here, especially for the acetal top version where you can't see any screws in use, thanks to a patent-pending mounting mechanism from the back- again taking cues from monoblocks. EK says the new system uses "pre-tensioned springs concealed in the water block top, so with just a few turns on the thumb-nuts, the installation is finished". We look forward to checking these out in person when they release in the Sept 2021 timeframe. Read past the break for more from EK!

Colorful GeForce RTX 3090 iGame KUDAN Flagship Teased

Colorful earlier this week, teased its upcoming flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3090 iGame KUDAN. The teaser was supposed to be a silhouette, but someone in Colorful's marketing team simply darkened a picture to come up with it. VideoCardz only had to turn the levels back up for a better look at the card. The RTX 3090 KUDAN features the over-the-top engineering Colorful earned its reputation after.

The RTX 3090 KUDAN features an enormous triple-slot/triple-fan cooling solution that also features provision for liquid cooling. The liquid cooling loop works in concert with the air-cooling solution for additional cooling. Colorful's industrial design language is a cross between the ASUS TUF Gaming and ASRock Taichi. The cooler also features a 3-inch true-color display that can be programmed to show just about anything, but its main function is real-time monitoring. We should know more about this card in the coming days.

EK Launches Active Backplates for ASUS TUF RTX 3080 and 3090 GPUs

EK, the leading computer cooling solutions provider, is introducing another addition to the EK Quantum Line. EK-Quantum Vector TUF RTX 3080/3090 Active Backplate links the water block and active backplate with a new terminal, which replaces the stock terminal that comes with your water block. This way, the whole enclosure requires only one inlet and one outlet, removing unnecessary additional tubing and reducing clutter. It is the ultimate aesthetic and performance solution that finds your GPU sandwiched between two water blocks, allowing maximum cooling.

MSI: Commemorating 35 Years in the Industry With the RTX 3090 SUPRIM Anniversary Limited Edition

MSI is celebrating its 35 years in the industry with a slight revision to its RTX 3090 SUPRIM graphics card. The celebration takes form via the RTX 3090 SUPRIM Anniversary Limited Edition graphics card (you can tell because of the NV Link connector, which is only present on that card), which should see about the same availability as the lowliest RTX 30-series graphics cards. The SUPRIM Anniversary Edition features MSI's Tri Frozr 2S cooling solution, which help to cool the base 350 W TDP of the SUPRIM card - still fed here by a triple 8-pin power connector setup.

For now, details are scarce on what physical differences there actually are on the card that could actually affect it performance-wise - MSI has promised to share more details in the future. For now, the card seems to be an aesthetic job, with much increased art detailing in the shroud and backplate. Both the shroud and backplate actually feature what look like single-line renders of MSI's past graphics cards, which is a cool legacy touch for the company. The Limited in the name is both a reference to how MSI will artificially limit this cards' production so it becomes a collector card, and the general state of the market. Check after the break for what exactly MSI is aiming at with this 35th Anniversary Edition graphics card.

EK Launches Active Backplates for EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 and 3090 GPUs

EK, the leading computer cooling solutions provider, is introducing another addition to the EK Quantum Line. It is the ultimate aesthetic and performance solution that finds your GPU sandwiched between two water blocks, allowing maximum cooling.

EK Releases Active Backplates for ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080/3090 Cards

EK, is introducing another addition to the EK-Quantum Vector series of active backplates. EK-Quantum Vector Strix RTX 3080/3090 active backplate is made to complement the existing EK-Quantum Vector Strix RTX 3080/3090 water blocks and actively cool the backside of ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 GPUs. The EK-Quantum Vector Strix RTX 3080/3090 Active Backplate comes with a new terminal that replaces the stock terminal arriving with the Vector water block and links the water block and Vector Active backplate into a single unit. This way, the whole enclosure requires only one inlet and one outlet, removing unnecessary additional tubing and reducing clutter. It is the ultimate aesthetic and performance solution that finds your GPU sandwiched between two water blocks, allowing maximum cooling.

The brand new Vector Active Backplate directly cools all PCB hotspots found on the backside of the GPU core and VRM (voltage regulation module). In the case of Strix RTX 3090, the VRAM located on the backside is being cooled, while the PCB on RTX 3080 GPUs is being cooled around the front-mounted VRAM. Cooling liquid is channeled over all these critical areas.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti Possible Release Dates Surface

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" graphics card family is on course to a refresh, with at least four new Ti SKUs reportedly planned. These include the RTX 3050 TI, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080 Ti, and the RTX 3090 Ti. From these, possible availability dates of the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti surfaced in a Wccftech report. The RTX 3080 Ti is expected to be available on June 3, 2021, with reviews going live on June 2. The RTX 3070 Ti, on the other hand, is expected to be available a week later, on June 10, with reviews going live on June 9. There's no word on availability of the other rumored Ti SKUs, such as the RTX 3050 Ti (desktop) or the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 3070 Ti is being designed to better compete against the Radeon RX 6800 under the $600-mark, while the RTX 3080 Ti is designed to check the Radeon RX 6900 XT.

NVIDIA Officially Announces RTX 30-series LHR Lineup

NVIDIA today has officially announced what we have gotten to know through sheer power of will, speculation, and leaks. The company took to a blog post to announce a new, revised lineup of RTX 30-series graphics cards, spanning from the RTX 3060 all the way to the premium RTX 3080 graphics card. All of these will now ship with a new silicon revision (the last 0 has been replaced with a 2, so we're now looking at GA102-202, GA04-302, etc.). LHR effectively halves each of these graphics cards' output in Ethereum mining, which is currently the greatest driver behind mining (and scalping) acquisition of graphics cards.

NVIDIA has also clarified that AIB partners will be clearly labeling their graphics cards with stickers denoting their "LHR" nature, both in the box and card itself, so that customers can know with utmost certainty what they are actually acquiring - though this only applies to newly-manufactured graphics cards, and not to the ones already in the retail channel, for obvious reasons. We are thus looking at a situation where we can find ourselves with two secondary markets for NVIDIA's RTX 30-series cards: one for miners, with non-LHR graphics cards and sold at much-inflated prices, and LHR-cards which should be in keeping with their MSRP - eventually. It remains to be seen whether or not we'll have to cope with yet another scalping arms race for the LHR cards as well, since there is surely a significant market still hungering for the 30-series performance.

Radeon RX 6900 XT Overclocked to 3321MHz, Breaks FireStrike World Record

A PowerColor Radeon RX 6900 XT (Liquid Devil or Red Devil) graphics card was overclocked to a staggering 3321 MHz by professional overclocker OGS, which went on to bag the 3DMark FireStrike world record, with a score of 37618 points on the HWBot leaderboard. It's important to note here, that the benchmark run was done with tessellation disabled—something that UL Benchmarks doesn't consider valid for its own leaderboard, but HWBot allows such benchmark runs, and so here we are. The FireStrike leaderboard has been dominated by the RX 6900 XT, as the card beats even the GeForce RTX 3090 in this test.

MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X Surfaces in a UAE Store

A pair of retail boxes of the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X graphics card was spotted at a brick-and-mortar PC parts store in the UAE. The front face of the retail box reveals a board design that's identical to the RTX 3090 SUPRIM X, including its triple PCIe power input configuration, a trio of TorX 3.0 fans, and the metal alloy cooler shroud. The box has clear markings of "RTX 3080 Ti" in the branding corner. According to FaisalKhatib, the Reddit user who took this picture, the card was available to purchase for the equivalent of USD $3,500. You can go ahead and figure out a way to buy it, but the card is a paperweight without a driver.

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is rumored to be slotted between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090, to help NVIDIA better compete with the Radeon RX 6900 XT. It maxes out the 384-bit wide GDDR6X memory interface of the "GA102" silicon, but with 12 GB of memory, as opposed to 24 GB on the RTX 3090. It's also rumored to be closer to the RTX 3090 in CUDA core count—10,240 of them—than the RTX 3080.
