Core i7-4770K Retail Package Pictured Up Close

It turns out that the 4th generation Core "Haswell" retail box-art that surfaced late last month wasn't fake. With Intel's next-gen chips less than a week away from launch, retailers are stocked up on them. One such retailer in Japan let a box face the lens. Pictured below is a retail box of the Core i7-4770K. The paperboard box, for the first time in several generations, features a collage of true-color images, with the running theme being "creativity." The box features a cutout at its usual location, letting you take a good look at what you're spending $330 on.

Coming from Intel, you expect that s $330 product will not only give you performance, but also give you the feeling of a premium product. First impressions are important sometimes.

Anyway... They could do a lot better than that

Packaging Designer vacancy?

I guess they must have forgotten to hire a packaging/graphic designer when they hire their engineers.. looks like it was designed mostly using MS Paint.. lol :toast:

Not everyone is like you, some people does like to keep the boxes in case they ever going to sell the cpu's as 2nd hand spare parts, it would come with a better pricing later on.. That is what most of the enthusiast i know including me do.. Just my 2 cents tho :)

That packaging isn't great. I know most will say it doesn't matter, but considering you're spending £250 on a high end CPU of exceptional quality, if the packaging design doesn't reflect that, then there is a weak link the chain. I guess generalyl, companies in this kind of business hide behind jargon and OEM's, they can get away with putting no effort in (most people with an intel desktop/laptop never see the box).

Sure, ultimately a product should be judged on its merits, not its packaging, and most people who will see the box, know what they want and why. But, I'm not sure if they just don't care, but for a company of this calibre, I would expect better. I'd expect the same quality, skill, effort to go into every aspect of their business.

But, imo most computer tech packaging/branding isn't great at all so perhaps they're just a victim of the market they're in. They have to fit in really, even if fitting in means badly matched images and over-cluttered packaging.

Sure it's ugly but who cares? It's a box that goes in another box that goes in a closet.

Well people seem to be concerned about the box art because they think it will somehow make the product perform better. You know, like putting a racing stripe on the side of their car,....

This is superficial BS people,....

I mean really,....

Well looks like AMD's boxes are far better looking, Then you should just buy an AMD box and place your Intel CPU in it and Marvel at is beauty.

I don't recall what was so spectacular about Intel's previous boxes, or even AMD's previous Phenom boxes. I did buy an FX-8150 brand new last year and got a tin that literally had dents and scratches on it, when all of my Intel/AMD paper boxes were perfect upon arrival.
