Xbox Game Pass Surpasses 10 Million Subscribers

During Microsoft's Q3 2020FY Earnings call, it was confirmed that Xbox Live was seeing record levels of engagement with over 90 million monthly users. On top of this, Microsoft announced that Xbox Game Pass had surpassed 10 million subscribers for the video game subscription service. Xbox Game Pass is available for Xbox One and PC giving users access to a library with hundreds of games including many large recent games such as Gears Tactics, Halo Master Chief Collection, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This makes Xbox Game Pass the largest game subscription service far outnumbering EA Access and Origin Access. Microsoft also noted that interest in Project xCloud the experimental game streaming service was high with "hundreds of thousands" of active users.

This is unfortunate news.

People, Desktop owners and DTR notebook owners buying this is a disaster. This Xbox GaaS uses UWP and it completely locks out the user devoid of any mods, ownership or fun, it adds that insane UWP components which sit atop the Xbox services (bloatware) in the Windows 10 installation which itself is sandbagged and castrated heavily by a lack of an RTM release which is properly stable, and the 6Months EOL policy with 18Mo support, add the DCH driver mess and auto-updates on top of the auto borking drivers, best example is the Plundervolt SGX flaw which caused the Notebook OEMs to push BIOS updates which lock the register for changing the voltages on a machine, if that machine has the basic Windows 10 installation like Home the avg user can never customize nor do anything. Win32 is the best we got for our computing, it just runs and does it flawlessly for us and keeps all our computing, gaming, media needs with us no frills too, and the debuggers like Sysinternals provide even more technological knowledge of the programming aspects that should be the ones which kids should also be taught not the MacOS and Chrome OS (Faux Linux bs hidden under GPL, doesn't even have Filesystem access, just like UWP garbage and other limitations) This UWP is the world's worst DRM ever created, even worse than Denuvo, imagine that service is aaavailable only on Win10 for one, and second being how can they force you to update to a latest buggy trash unstable Win10 SAC version just like that new Flight Simulator demands. Pure BS.

GaaS, AaS, As a Service doesn't fit in the Computing industry for DIYers and Users alike, that corporate greed driven system should never be encouraged at all, even if it's $1 for month where all these users come from, with XCloud and Stadia and that Amazon the latter two do not know an inch about gaming and they are pursuing this madness of making money by making people dumbed down.

Pay on GOG and own the game forever, Deus Ex HR and MD are on discount go and buy them, own them forever. That's how the gaming should be not this DRM filth and other PC drivel junk (Gears 5, Wolfenstien Youngblood etc..)

They didn't tell the number between pc players and Xbox players. It might have nine million Xbox user and only 1 million on pc. From what I've seen for Xbox players, the game pass is great, it just works, and they get lots of game for a low price. And some indies games even benefit from it since the featured games get more publicity.

It's only bad on PC because the Microsoft store is broken. I can't help but feels like there's going to be increased tension as Windows is trying to adapt to a userbase who grew up using "closed" tech. Microsoft get the arduous task of having to please everyone from the guy looking to have a near perfect legacy compatibility, to the kid expecting windows to be as easy to use as his iPad. Meanwhile MacOS just got rid of a huge chunk of legacy code when they dropped 32bit, and their customers just got to suck it up. Something that windows will never be able to do, for better (all the games) or the worse (windows getting increasingly complex under the hood).
