EA, Motive and Lucasfilm Announce Star Wars: Squadrons

Calling all pilots! Electronic Arts Inc., Motive Studios and Lucasfilm today announced Star Wars : Squadrons, an immersive, first-person space dogfighting experience set in the beloved Star Wars galaxy. Star Wars: Squadrons will feature thrilling 5v5 multiplayer dogfights, monumental fleet battles, and an original story set during the final days of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The game will launch October 2, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Origin, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and will be playable via Virtual Reality (VR) on PlayStation 4 and PC with cross-play support. Tune into EA Play Live on June 18 at 4:00pm PT for the gameplay reveal of Star Wars:Squadrons.

Update Jun 18th: EA has confirmed that the game will fully support joysticks and HOTAS joysticks. They have also published the minimum and recommended system requirements which can be viewed down below.
"We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter," said Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios. "Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we've been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Warsfans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We're excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live."

In Star Wars:Squadrons, players will enlist as starfighter pilots, stepping into the cockpits of iconic starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets. They'll plan skirmishes with their squadron in the briefing room before taking off for space battles across the galaxy. Players will engage in strategic 5v5 multiplayer space battles with the goal of demolishing the opposing flagship in Fleet Battles and will feel the rush of first-person multiplayer combat as they work with their squadron to defeat as many opponents as possible in Dogfights. Pilots will triumph as a team, adjusting the composition of their squadrons to suit their playstyles as they progress, crushing their opponents and completing objectives across known and never-before-seen locations, including the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan.

Star Wars:Squadrons will offer rich cosmetic and gameplay customization options with rewards and bonuses that are earned solely through gameplay. As players move up the ranks, they'll earn components such as weapons, hulls, engines and shields to customize the performance of their starfighters; and gain cosmetic items to customize their cockpit, ship exteriors, and appearance of their pilot. In addition, players will be able to squad up with their friends and play against others, regardless of platform, as cross-play will be supported on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and VR.

Star Wars:Squadrons will also feature a single-player story that brings to life events following the Battle of Endor when the Rebel Alliance has successfully destroyed the Death Star II. Through the story, players will learn what it means to be a pilot as they battle from the alternating perspectives of two customizable pilots, one serving in the New Republic's heroic Vanguard Squadron, while the other fights for the Galactic Empire's fearsome Titan Squadron. The authentic story features a diverse cast of original characters, as well as some cameos from familiar faces in the Star Wars galaxy.

Star Wars: Squadrons is available now for pre-order and lands on retail and digital storefronts on October 2 for 39.99 USD. EA Access and Origin Access Basic subscribers can enjoy up to 10 hours of play time at launch, along with 10% off the purchase of the full game. Origin Access Premier subscribers will get full access to Star Wars: Squadrons on PC along with all the benefits of Basic as long as they subscribe. For more details, visit.

wahdangunwtf, EA not doing micro transaction and in game pay item since starwars fallen order.

so right now i'm expecting Donald Trum to quit twitter and become a civil right activist.

nah, i have faith in EA since they release
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Overhyped and rather short game, a one off. Do you think they've learned then? We've seen them flip flop before, didn't do much in the greater scheme of things.

But maybe, just maybe you're right, maybe the franchise owner of Star Wars got so fed up with bad publicity they adjusted the profit margins and take a bigger hit now to produce sane content. I hope you're right. Maybe it will enforce a change that is bigger than Star Wars games alone if EA gets to see the light.

Not holding my breath though... this one requires a LOT of wishful thinking.

Fallen Order was a single-player story-driven game. It doesn't fall into this competitive online category and cannot be treated as such.

For all EA online multiplayer server-based games there are microtransactions and lootboxes out the wazoo. That's their business model....

That's exactly how Battlefront II started out, which was the reason I refused to buy it when it came out. I hate the whole "Pay 2 Win" scheme with a passion, and that's exactly what it was. But then EA changed their tune once people whipped out teh pitchforks and demanded change, which is how Battlefront II became what it is now. Granted, BF II is the only EA game I play strictly online (I also play The Sims 4, but I turn off access to the online features) so I'm not sure how games like Battlefield operate, with the whole microtransaction thing.

So is this an online game? If yes, blergh, and if there's a campaign it'll probably be bad.

Gmr_ChickI've been a console gamer for much of my life, so I can't speak about the PC Star Wars Games of the past, but the last starfighter-based games I loved as a kid were the Rogue Squadron games on the N64, despite my vision. Good times, indeed.
Rogue Squadron was pretty cool, but a far cry from the X-Wing and TIE Fighter titans.

Well, yeah, sure, of course it was a far cry from the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, but it was all I had at the time :)

Me too, though I doubt it'll be.

I was reading the article thinking "come on, where's the single player campaign?" and when I finally got to that point, I was like "yesss!" :peace:

Vayra86Don't get stuck up in terminology. Whatever its called, the end game is a simple balance of product/content versus price.

39,99 reeks of post-purchase crap. Its just that simple. OR its an empty shell of a game with lots of procedural and RNG content that feels bland in a few plays.

OR EA found a magical way to reap margins while providing a full featured game under the normal price of a full featured game. That quickly evokes theories such as 'omg they do it profit free' or 'omg they must be taking a loss to win back hearts and minds'... o_O:rolleyes::roll::roll::roll:

Take your pick... or are you a 'benefit of the doubt' guy? We've all been there at some point with EA :)
I am only interested in checking out the VR aspect of the game, but there's no way a title like this will hold my interest for more than a month of playing. So....option #4-- Origin Access it is. $9.99 with all extra content included. I'll more than get my fill of it in that time frame and then move on (probably even check out a couple other titles during the month to possibly buy on sale later).
I had to chime in with that because I know sub models are your favorite! :toast:

I know I’m a total outlier but they’ve said it will have full HOTAS support(My X52 Pro is ready) but I’d love TrackIR support, I know I’m dreaming but in ED it makes a huge difference for a “non VR” experience.

Right now, I'm almost convinced of buying the game the moment it comes out.

But the one thing that I haven't seen yet is whether or not single player mode will allow for custom matches. I'd really like to face at least a few dozens TIE fighters, not just 5, by myself.

Ugly people, too much of the political baggage in the came from narration to the characters. This game looks very generic POS MMO latest fad type game, just like that Apex legends. Also given it's EA I don't have any trust, in before some one says SW Jedi Fallen order nope that was hot garbage and Star Wars under Disney is rotting corpse. Not even worth pirating guys.

Goddamn, that actually looks appealing. Not great, but good enough to warrant keeping an eye on.

If only there was a way to support Motive without giving a dime to EA.

Edit:
Never mind, Motive Studios are 100% EA-owned, so any hope I had for this has vanished again.

Nah I just can’t say no to this regardless I“m a “simmer” play a lot of ED, own a HOTAS and now I’m being offered an actual X+Wing “pilot experience“ that gives me “everything” I could ever want, I’m at the mercy of EA I’m afraid...

I mean, real star wars had a fat guy in the cockpit named Porkins.

I think this'll be fine.

If it's any consolation, Fallen Order wasn't terrible.

Yeah but a Dark Souls style SW game has as much appeal as Dark Souls...

I just remember playing one of the late ones on Xbox and having Yoda kill me in training with floating rocks.

Yoda, why?

Does it suck if I admit I played it on easy and it wasn't lethal as hell?
