NVIDIA Now Ships GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with Updated Power Connector
A few weeks ago, we reported that NVIDIA is already shipping its GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition cards with an improved 12VHPWR connector called 12V-2x6. However, today we learn that NVIDIA is also now shipping GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition with an improved 12V-2x6 connector. Thanks to the Reddit user u/prackprackprack posting in r/NVIDIA, the user reported that his Founders Edition RTX 4090 has shortened sensing pins on the connector. If not adequately plugged in, the sensing pins will not allow the card to draw full power and melt the connector. Besides RTX 4070 FE, the RTX 4090 FE is now updated as well, which makes sense as it is the most power-hungry card in the family. However, this may be a partial 12V-2x6 implementation. Below, you can see images showing shortened sensing pins.

RTX 4090 did need 2 of these connectors, 1 is not enough
Jayz has a great video on it, He gets it imho.
And that's why from near the first mention of this connection, and Nvidia's plan to use it here.
I had concerns.
And I simply disagree, I wouldn't have done this, I still wouldn't be doing this, Why, because In recent PC tradition.
Nvidia and AMD, so all,. discrete GPU were known for power spikes, and for owners that can and will OC.
So to then hug the limit on a new connection with the 4090 with so much less material and yet no special materials and a stupid design from day one.
Big cards, accute bend limits on strengthened and sleeved connector's, the Fails are many.
Hire better, Perhaps hire Braver too.
Almost all of my GPU's since then have had 2x 6pin/8pin connectors on them
2007 - GeForce 8800 GTX (3-Way Sli)
2008 - GeForce GTX 280 (2-Way Sli)
2010 - GeForce GTX 480 (2-Way Sli)
2014 - GeForce GTX 780 ti
2015 - GeForce GTX Titan X (2-Way Sli)
(the Sli setups had quite a bit of cables going into them).
The RTX 4080 will be my first GPU in 16 years to require only a single cable,
guess i have to get used to that now lol.
Now we wait to see if this solves / puts this issue to bed once and for all.
@techpowerup staff,
Please review this PSU if and when you get one in.

All translate to : bad design.
EPS12V is industry standard in Server market.
And density is almost No.1 priority in Server market.
It would be logical if the 12VHPWR should be a perfect fit for this market.
But it didn't happen.
Even Nvidia themselves fitted the RTX 6000 Ada Generation with the EPS12V , not the 12VHPWR.
Wonder the reason why?
Anyway, 12VHPWR is dead dead.
They even ditched the name.
Let see how 12V-2x6 perform in the second round of paid beta test.
UV ,Vsync, freesync these are always everyone's best friend IMHO you dont need more frames then your monitor out VRR and sub max (by 1 fps) Rules, screen as its made Native style obv.
