Amazon Games Details Throne and Liberty Open Beta Launch

Amazon Games and NCSOFT announced today that THRONE AND LIBERTY, a free-to-play MMORPG featuring massive-scale combat in a dynamic world, will launch in North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-platform play enabled.

"On behalf of Amazon Games and NCSOFT, I'm proud to announce that THRONE AND LIBERTY will launch on September 17, 2024. We all know fans around the world have been eagerly waiting for news on when they can jump into the game," said Merv Lee Kwai, Head of Third-Party Publishing at Amazon Games. "We can't wait to show you what we've been working on, and invite you to experience it all for yourself when the game launches this September."
To celebrate the announcement, Amazon Games has released a new trailer that provides the most comprehensive look yet into what players can expect when they finally enter the exciting world of Solisium.

Additionally, Amazon Games revealed that it will hold an Open Beta for THRONE AND LIBERTY from July 18 to July 23, available on all platforms and in all supported regions. Fans can sign up for the open beta by visiting the THRONE AND LIBERTY site. The test will not only give players a taste of the game before the full launch in September, but also the opportunity to share feedback and shape the future of THRONE AND LIBERTY.

THRONE AND LIBERTY features a robust social experience, where players are encouraged to join guilds and engage with one another. Guild interactions and alliances are integral to the game experience, as players can take part in epic Player vs. Environment (PvE) and Player vs. Player (PvP) battles, such as Castle Siege, that can accommodate thousands of players at once. This all takes place in a persistent open world called Solisium, where dynamic, interactive environments affect the gameplay in meaningful ways. Unpredictable weather cycles impact how your weapons perform, alter the terrain around you, and reveal new access points. While exploring the world, players will be able to transform into creatures that fly through the air or take to the sea for rapid travel, or even morph into defeated bosses to turn the tide in battle.

Basically its Guildwars, Aion, Lineage but maybe more of a Guildwars/Lineage 2.5 as its built off the same template.

Not really expecting anything particularly new or ground breaking from T&L. NCsoft also hasnt been at their best for a while. A lot of their GW2 content updates as of late have been rather boring with a lot of copy and pasting from older updates going on.

-- This partnership doesnt really surprise me. Amazon wants to get into game publishing, NCsoft have experience and most of NcSofts online MMOs are run off Amazon servers and they always lag.

Making it free-to-play might be the right way to go as long as things you can purchase in game are cosmetic only. If that's the case and they have learned lessons from the New World this could be a great outlier game.

Can anyone actually play the open beta on PC? Their website says you need to go to the steam page for it, but on the steam page there is nothing

Did you even read the first sentence in the PR?

Further down it says:
Amazon Games revealed that it will hold an Open Beta for THRONE AND LIBERTY from July 18 to July 23
That's July, not June.

Did a little digging. The game was first announced back in 2011 under a different name and went Beta in 2016 in South Korea. Numerous delays and here we are. Sounds like some development hell going on here but not enough info yet.

Wouldnt surprise me with the slow development. They were also working on GW2 at the time and that game sucked when it was released. I dont think GW2 was in what I would call a great place for two or three years after it was released.

They were also working on Blade & Soul at the same time. I didnt know that game existed.

I wonder if Amazon got hoodwinked into buying this game off NCsoft when no other publisher would pick it up.

I played an hour or so in a closed alpha a couple of months ago & actually I thought it looked alright. The character models looked great, but other stuff did look a little dated in places, but it's an MMO, it needs to run on potatoes to get the player base to be successful.

I am sure it be problematic with Amazon at the help too in more ways than one, default skip. It's about time people stud up to the Amazon BS.
