A-Tech Fabrication Intros HeatSync 1200 Fanless Ultra-Slim HTPC

A-Tech Fabrication, a company that specializes in hand-crafted HTPCs, unveiled the HeatSync 1200 fanless HTPC. The part that makes it fanless is the chassis itself, which is made of aluminum, with fins on the sides, that dissipate heat. Copper heat pipes transfer heat from key components such as the CPU and chipset to the sides of the chassis, which takes care of the rest. Although most of the chassis is anodized black, with its front-panel, you can choose between silver and black options.

The HeatSync 1200 internally packs an Intel DH61AG thin mini-ITX motherboard, which seats an Intel Core i3-2100T dual-core 35W processor, clocked at 2.50 GHz. 4 GB Corsair Vengeance SO-DIMM memory comes standard. Also standard is the Intel SSD 310 40 GB mSATA SSD. Considering there are no mechanical hard drives, or a PSU with active-cooling (a 160W power-brick does the job), the HeatSync 1200 is literally silent. A consumer IR (CIR) receiver with Windows Media Center remote, and Windows 7 Home Premium make for the rest of it.

Corsair Readies Individual-Sleeved PSU Modular Cables

Individual-sleeved replacement PSU cables are the in-thing with enthusiasts and case-modders now, thanks to the appealing "organic" look that they bring into cases. There are quite a few companies that have taken interest in it. These are sets of cables for PSUs in which each individual cable is sleeved, rather than a bunch of them. This also allows modders to create patterns using differently colored cable sleeves. Corsair jumped into the fray with upgrades for its Professional (HX series) and Professional Gold (AX series) modular PSUs. These cables will be available in black, red, blue, and white colors. Corsair put up product pages of these under the PSU accessories section. A high-end gaming PC using these cables was pictured by Legit Reviews. Gigabyte X79-UD3 and Core i7-3930K Set Records with New F7 BIOS

It's been a tough week or so for Gigabyte marketing. It had to admit that quite a few people had burned their motherboards, to which it offered free replacements, and isolated the problem to faulty firmware. There has been talk that this firmware cripples overclocking by throttling CPU clock speed under extreme stress. Gigabyte set out to do some myth-busting. Renowned overclocker and Gigabyte PR guy HiCookie set up a test-bench using Core i7-3930K, an "infamous" X79-UD3 motherboard running the latest version F7 BIOS, and a typical extreme-cooling bench.

HiCookie achieved 5643.2 MHz clock speed, using a base clock of 99 MHz, 57.0x multiplier, and CPU voltage of 1.584V. The rest of the test-bench consisted of Kingston HyperX Genesis memory, and Corsair AX1200W PSU. To demonstrate that this isn't a hit-and-run feat, HiCookie put the overclocked bench through Super Pi 1M and 32M and PiFast benchmarks, with record-setting scores. The CPU-Z validation can be found here. Details of the HWBot record scores can be accessed here.

A video of the benchmarks follows.
