UL Solutions Adds Support for DLSS 4 and DLSS Multi Frame Generation to the 3DMark NVIDIA DLSS Feature Test

We're excited to announce that in today's update to 3DMark, we're adding support for DLSS 4 and DLSS Multi Frame generation to the NVIDIA DLSS feature test. The NVIDIA DLSS feature test and this update were developed in partnership with NVIDIA. The 3DMark NVIDIA DLSS feature test lets you compare performance and image quality brought by enabling DLSS processing. If you have a new GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU, you'll also be able to compare performance with and without the full capabilities of DLSS 4.

You can choose to run the NVIDIA DLSS feature test using DLSS 4, DLSS 3 or DLSS 2. DLSS 4 includes the new DLSS Multi Frame Generation feature, and you can choose between several image quality modes—Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance and DLAA. These modes are designed for different resolutions, from Full HD up to 8K. DLSS Multi Frame Generation uses AI to boost frame rates with up to three additional frames generated per traditionally rendered frame. In the 3DMark NVIDIA DLSS feature test, you are able to choose between 2x, 3x and 4x Frame Generation settings if you have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series GPU.

New NVIDIA Broadcast AI Features Now Streaming With GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs

New GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs - built on the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture - are now available to power generative AI content creation and accelerate creative performance. GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs feature fifth-generation Tensor Cores with support for FP4, reducing the VRAM requirements to run generative AI models while doubling performance. For example, Black Forest Labs' FLUX models - available on Hugging Face this week - at FP4 precision require less than 10 GB of VRAM, compared with over 23 GB at FP16. With a GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, the FLUX.1 [dev] model can generate images in just over five seconds, compared with 15 seconds on FP16 or 10 seconds on FP8 on a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.

GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs also come equipped with ninth-generation encoders and sixth-generation decoders that add support for 4:2:2 and increase encoding quality for HEVC and AV1. Fourth-generation RT Cores paired with DLSS 4 provide creators with super-smooth 3D rendering viewports. The GeForce RTX 5090 GPU includes 32 GB of ultra-fast GDDR7 memory and 1,792 GB/sec of total memory bandwidth - a 77% bandwidth increase over the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU. It also includes three encoders and two decoders, reducing export times by a third compared with the prior generation.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 572.16 WHQL Game Ready Drivers

NVIDIA today released the latest version of its GeForce Game Ready drivers. Version 572.16 WHQL comes with support for the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 "Blackwell" graphics cards, along with all the software framework needed for DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation. DLSS 4 and its updated Transformer-based models for super resolution, ray reconstruction, and frame generation are even available to older generations of GeForce RTX GPUs depending on their hardware capability. The updated super resolution model is available across the GeForce RTX series, the updated ray reconstruction to RTX 40-series and RTX 30-series; and the updated frame generation model to the RTX 40-series. Multi frame generation is exclusive to the RTX 50-series.

A bug that caused G-SYNC compatible monitors to flicker when framerate drops below 60 FPS has been fixed. Micro-stutters noticed with "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" with V-sync disabled, has been fixed. Stability has been improved for Ubisoft games that use the Snowdrop game engine. The Last of Us Part I Updated with Support for FSR 3.1

The Last of Us Part I (PC version) was updated to version 1.1.4 last Friday—at the time, patch notes revealed that Iron Galaxy Studios/Nixxes Software had added support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3.1 Super Resolution and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation. Several popular first-party PlayStation titles received similar updates mid-way through last year, so industry watchdogs have questioned the timing of this latest upgrade—up until late last week, The Last of Us Part I was ticking along with support for FSR 3.0 (super resolution and frame generation).

Naturally, Team Red is in the process of preparing FSR 4.0 for an upcoming product launch—now delayed, due to the engineering team requiring: "extra time to optimize the software stack for maximum performance and enable more titles." AMD's latest graphics technology was showcased at CES earlier this month, alongside their new (RDNA 4) Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 (non-XT) graphics cards. According to Team Red, it is relatively easy to go from version 3.1 up to 4.0. The Last of Us Part I's development team (for PC platforms) could have everything ready to go in a couple of weeks, and be prepared well in advance for the game's sequel (due in April).

Cyberpunk 2077 Gets DLSS 4 Support With Patch 2.21. All RTX Users Can Try the New Transformers DLSS Model

CD Projekt RED has released the latest Patch 2.21 for Cyberpunk 2077, which is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The new patch brings various fixes on all platforms, but also adds support for DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards.

According to details provided in the release notes, the feature "boosts FPS by using AI to generate up to three times per traditionally rendered frame." It also introduces faster single Frame Generation which should bring reduced memory usage on RTX 50 and RTX 40 Series graphics cards. The patch also adds an option to choose between the CNN model or the new Transformer model for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA on all NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards. According to CD Projekt RED, the new Transformer model should enhance stability, lighting, and detail in motion.

AMD is Taking Time with Radeon RX 9000 to Optimize Software and FSR 4

When AMD announced its upcoming Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs based on RDNA 4 IP, we expected the general availability to follow soon after the CES announcement. However, it turns out that AMD has scheduled its Radeon RX 9000 series availability for March, as the company is allegedly optimizing the software stack and its FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) for a butter smooth user experience. In a response on X to Hardware Unboxed, AMD's David McAfee shared, "I really appreciate the excitement for RDNA 4. We are focused on ensuring we deliver a great set of products with Radeon 9000 series. We are taking a little extra time to optimize the software stack for maximum performance and enable more FSR 4 titles. We also have a wide range of partners launching Radeon 9000 series cards, and while some have started building initial inventory at retailers, you should expect many more partner cards available at launch."

AMD is taking its RDNA 4 launch more cautiously than before, as it now faces a significant problem with NVIDIA and its waste portfolio of software optimization and AI-enhanced visualization tools. The FSR 4 introduces a new machine learning (ML) based upscaling component to handle Super Resolution. This will be paired with Frame Generation and an updated Anti-Lag 2 to make up the FSR 4 feature set. Optimizing this is the number one priority, and AMD plans to get more games on FSR 4 so gamers experience out-of-the-box support.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Performance in Cyberpunk 2077 With and Without DLSS 4 Detailed

It is no secret that NVIDIA's RTX 50-series launch was welcomed with a mixed reception. On one hand, DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation has allowed for obscene jumps in performance, much to the dismay of purists who would rather do away with AI-powered wizardry. A recent YouTube video has detailed what the RTX 5090 is capable of in Cyberpunk 2077 with Path Tracing at 4K, both with and without the controversial AI features. With DLSS set to performance mode and 4x frame generation (three generated frames), the RTX 5090 managed around 280 FPS. Pretty good, especially when considering the perfectly acceptable latency of around 52 ms, albeit with occasional spikes.

Turning DLSS to quality, the frame rate drops to around 230 FPS, with latency continuing to hover around 50 ms. Interestingly, with frame generation set to 3x or even 2x, the difference in latency was borderline negligible between the two, right around 44 ms or so. However, the FPS takes a massive nosedive when frame generation is turned off entirely. With DLSS set to quality mode and FG turned off, the RTX 5090 barely managed around 70 FPS in the game. Taking things a step further, the presenter turned off DLSS as well, resulting in the RTX 5090 struggling to hit 30 FPS in the game, with latency spiking to 70 ms. Clearly, DLSS 4 and MFG allows for an incredible uplift in performance with minimal artefacting, at least in Cyberpunk 2077 unless one really looks for it.

To begin 2025 with a bang, we're announcing that 75 games and apps will support DLSS 4's new DLSS Multi Frame Generation technology at launch of our GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. Included on the list are today's most played and highest rated games, including Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo IV, Dragon Age : The Veilguard, God of War Ragnarök, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, SILENT HILL 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and Star Wars Outlaws.

Black State, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Dune: Awakening will also include DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation when they're released, ensuring the definitive day-one experience for GeForce RTX gamers. And The Witcher IV will feature the latest RTX-powered technologies. Additionally, DOOM: The Dark Ages will include immersive path-traced effects. NVIDIA Introduces DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation for up to 8X Framerate Uplifts

With the GeForce RTX 50-series "Blackwell" generation, NVIDIA is introducing the new DLSS 4 technology. The most groundbreaking feature being introduced with DLSS 4 is multi-frame generation. The technology relies on generative AI to predict up to three frames ahead of a conventionally rendered frame, which in and of itself could be a result of super resolution. Since DLSS SR can effectively upscale 1 pixel into 4 (i.e. turn a 1080p render into 4K output), and DLSS 4 generates the following three frames, DLSS 4 effectively has a pixel generation factor of 1:15 (15 in every 16 pixels are generated outside the rendering pipeline). When it launches alongside the GeForce RTX 50-series later this month, over 75 game titles will be ready for DLSS 4. Multi-frame generation is a feature exclusive to "Blackwell."

NVIDIA today unveiled the most advanced consumer GPUs for gamers, creators and developers—the GeForce RTX 50 Series Desktop and Laptop GPUs. Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture, fifth-generation Tensor Cores and fourth-generation RT Cores, the GeForce RTX 50 Series delivers breakthroughs in AI-driven rendering, including neural shaders, digital human technologies, geometry and lighting.

"Blackwell, the engine of AI, has arrived for PC gamers, developers and creatives," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "Fusing AI-driven neural rendering and ray tracing, Blackwell is the most significant computer graphics innovation since we introduced programmable shading 25 years ago." The GeForce RTX 5090 GPU—the fastest GeForce RTX GPU to date—features 92 billion transistors, providing over 3,352 trillion AI operations per second (TOPS) of computing power. Blackwell architecture innovations and DLSS 4 mean the GeForce RTX 5090 GPU outperforms the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU by up to 2x.

Alleged GALAX GeForce RTX 5080 "Blackwell" Box-art Drops Big Clue About Neural Rendering

The box-art of upcoming GALAX GeForce RTX 5080 "Blackwell" graphics card has much to say about the graphics architecture, without dropping any explicit mentions. The front-face of the box features a hooded human face—nothing fancy, until you begin to pay attention to the details. Half the face is composed of triangles streaming toward the face, while the other half is composed in place by a blue stream of light, as if to denote that it's being drawn by a fundamentally different method than "triangles."

The triangles here represent classic raster 3D graphics, while the other spirit-like half denotes neural rendering. Here's where it gets interesting. Both kinds of rendering are being applied to the same frame, and so neural rendering is fundamentally different from DLSS 3 Frame Generation, a technology that draws alternate frames using optical flow, motion vectors, and AI. Neural rendering appears to be, at least from this GALAX box-art, a technology that runs in real-time, where some elements, portions, or details of a frame are rendered by a generative AI, and others by raster 3D graphics.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Gets New Patch 2 Update

Bethesda has released the big Update 2 for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game with additional fixes, including the big fix where the Game Slot appears damaged or completely missing, as this issue was apparently plaguing many users. Update 2 also reduces stutter from duplicated frames during cutscenes, as well as fixes to prevent "double vision" getting stuck on screen when Indy has almost drowned.

There are also several PC specific fixes including the one for where NVIDIA Frame Generation wasn't activated properly with HDR, a fix for NVIDIA Low Latency Mode performance issues when used with Frame Generation, a fix for global illumination being completely disabled on graphics cards below minimum VRAM requirement, issues with Lighting when Path Tracing is set to Medium or High Quality, and more. The Update 2 should also fix major performance issues when NVIDIA DLSS is enabled. There are several gameplay fixes which you can check out below. All of these NVIDIA-specific issues are still somewhat present and some users over at Reddit are still experiencing issues. Some users are reporting several workarounds, including a clean installation of drivers, or enabling and disabling Frame Generation, DLSS, HDR, and other settings.

God of War Ragnarök Arrives September 19th, Supporting DLSS 3 & Reflex
From Santa Monica Studio and brought to PC in partnership with Jetpack Interactive comes God of War Ragnarök, an epic and heartfelt journey that follows Kratos and Atreus as they struggle with holding on and letting go. The sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War (2018), God of War Ragnarök picks up with Fimbulwinter well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Odin's forces in Asgard prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world. Along the way, they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. As the threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer, Kratos and Atreus must choose between the safety of their family and the safety of the realms.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update Adds AMD FSR 3 and Frame Generation for PC Players

Cyberpunk 2077 has historically been a challenging game to run, although a number of optimizations and updates throughout the game's life cycle have improved quality of life and visuals greatly. The latest Cyberpunk PC patch 2.13, released on September 12, aims to improve both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion with the introduction of AMD's Fidelity FX Super Resolution with Frame Generation.

The addition of FSR 3 comes almost a year after the game gained support for NVIDIA's competing DLSS 3.5 and AMD claims that Frame Generation and FSR 3 can boost frame rates by upwards of 300% at higher resolutions with less of a quality penalty than previous versions. Cyberpunk's performance gains are likely less drastic, though, since even AMD says its Fluid Motion Frames 2 only achieves a 78% performance boost. Performance claims aside, FSR 3 and frame generation should make playing Cyberpunk 2077 on devices like the Steam Deck more viable, since the Steam Deck doesn't have the benefit of AMD Fluid Motion Frames built into the AMD drivers like Windows devices do.

AMD Unveils Ryzen AI HX 300 Support for AFMF 2, VGM, and Releases a Preview Driver

AMD today released early driver support for the Radeon 800M series integrated graphics of Ryzen AI 300 series mobile processors to use AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF 2), and Variable Graphics Memory (VGM) technologies. The two technologies receive optimization for the RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture driving the iGPU of the "Strix Point" silicon on which the Ryzen AI 300 series processors are based on. AFMF 2 is the second generation of AMD Fluid Motion Frames, a technology that lets you nearly double frame-rates on any Direct3D 11 or later game, without the gaming having explicit support for a frame generation technology, such as FSR 3 Frame Generation. AFMF operates out of the game's graphics pipeline, which adds a tiny bit of system latency. AFMF 2 seeks to reduce this latency.

Variable Graphics Memory (VGM) is another interesting feature that builds on top of the UMA (unified memory architecture) implementation of AMD processors with iGPUs. Depending on a 3D application's demands, the technology dynamically allocates up to 75% of the system memory as video memory for the iGPU, while ensuring the game doesn't run into unintentional performance bottlenecks arising from paging main memory if too much of it is used up by the iGPU. For VGM to work, a system needs at least 16 GB of main memory. VGM is not meant to be confused with the shared memory area that the processor allots to the iGPU by default (which ranges between 512 MB and 2 GB), it's designed to augment to this by eating into the system memory.
