Windows 8.1 Update 1 Leaked

Ahead of its anticipated mid-March launch, the Update 1 package of Windows 8.1 was leaked to the web. Not very different in definition to a service pack, Update 1 adds a host of features and under-the-hood changes to Windows 8.1. When updated, it should change the version string of your Windows 8.1 installation to look something along the lines of "6.3.9600.17031.WINBLUE_GDR.140221-1952." You'll notice how it's formatted similar to those of Microsoft's Windows Phone operating systems. NGOHQ.com hosts a repository of the Microsoft Update (*.msu) files that must be applied in sequence, to update your Windows 8.1 installation. If you're not sure, wait out till the update is formally out, and Windows Update will update the operating system with close to zero user intervention.

I made the mistake of buying Windows 8. While 8.1 is "ok", there are no ISOs so you have to install and wait DAYS AND DAYS for an update and completely use up and internet data usage allowance you have. I have the way MS assumes everyone in the world as US internet speeds, net neutrality, and no data caps/ pay per GB.

No wonder 70% of China is still on XP.

Until it has a more friendly desktop, and more respect for mouse first users hen it would be worthwhile. But by the look of it one will have to wait and prey that Microsoft will come to their senses with Windows 9.

Desktop is just as friendly as Windows 7. Mouse works fine in every application i've used. Unless you mean the Windows Apps which nobody is required to use.

Tired of these senseless statements. If you don't like it just say you don't like it. Stop making up bullshit to try and prove a false point. Only thing I'll give on is if you absolutely cannot adjust to the Start screen.

Man, this data cap is the worst thing you can have. I would never, ever, EVER buy an Internet contract with this kind of bullshit. Good thing in most European and Asian countries this is long gone and HS broadband is quickly catching up.
But then again, when you really dont have a chance....

Used it and got rid of it. It is a terrible OS. The install base reflects that. Currently being at the same levels as Windows Vista and Microsoft is feeling proud of it. Crazy.

More opinionated bullshit. It took Windows 7 three years to surpass Windows XP because there was no good reason to upgrade. According to your logic, Windows 7 sucked its first two years.

I absolutely despise the "I don't like something so that means it sucks" mentality.

Its a bitch when something that sucks performs better than something that doesn't. /sarcasm

There are Windows 8.1 ISOs, you can even download them with a Windows 8 Key and do a fresh install with a Windows 8 key.

One thing change, which I really hate is that even you close by the "x" button or drag down to close the metro apps, IT is still running on background!

This is one of the main reasons I hate Win 8. Then again, I'm not using even one of the Metro apps anyways...
