Simply NUC Unveils the World's First 4x4 NUC Powered by an Intel Core i9 Processor
In a groundbreaking leap forward for small form factor computing, Simply NUC, Inc, a leading mini PC solutions company, is thrilled to announce the launch of a new product family called Onyx. Powered by Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake "H" series processors, Onyx is the world's first 4x4 NUC to feature a Core i9 option. With support for up to an unprecedented 96 GB of DDR5-5200 memory, up to 16 TB of storage, and never before seen benchmark results, Onyx delivers unmatched computing performance for modern business.

Starting at $699, four Onyx models will be available for pre-order from Simply NUC starting next week. Powered by Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake 45 W processor, the Onyx product line delivers powerful processing capabilities for even the most demanding workloads. The NUC13OXv9 model featuring the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor with Intel vPro Technology on the high-end pushes the boundaries of what is possible in a compact 4x4 inch chassis. To accommodate a variety of price points, more cost-effective options are also available with the NUC13Oxi7, NUC13OXv5, and NUC13OXi5 models with the entry level based on the 13th Gen Intel Core i5-13500H processor. Select Onyx SKUs come equipped with Intel vPro technology, enabling remote management of computer fleets and ensuring secure communications across networks. At least this will have a much higher core count but you won't be getting typical i9-class performance out of it.
We know that performance-per-watt curves are not linear. Even with power throttling, it's probably in the performance-per-watt sweet spot. This is typically an important purchasing criterium for enterprise use. This is not the type of product that Joe Consumer will toss into his shopping card at Wal-Mart. This is really a SKU that is ordered by corporate purchasing agents and IT directors who have specific usages in mind for these devices, maybe for a specific application that is well optimized for multi-threaded operation.
I'm not sure if a TPU review of this unit would be of any use. This isn't a gaming computer and the CPU choice isn't appropriate for mundane consumer tasks like web surfing or home theater PC duties. An Intel N95 or N100 powered unit is fine for that.
I have an i5 mini-me box and it does everything I throw at it very well, including video/image processing, CAD/CAM, complex databases, as well as the everyday stuff too...so I can't really see the need for an i9 version for any normal user, outside of genome mapping or some high-level math calcs....where a much more powerful & higher-spec'd tower w/ a dGPU & way more ram would me way more common anyways....
