NVIDIA Could be Reducing RTX 4070 GPU Production, Palit Card Price Cut Reported in UK

NVIDIA's fresh faced GeForce RTX 4070 graphic card range has not been flying off shelves around the world, and Team Green could be pivoting their approach somewhat after receiving lower than expected sales figures via company reports. Their component suppliers have already mentioned that the entire GeForce RTX 40 family is on a comfortably steady production schedule - with no instructions received from HQ to up the ante. In the latest development this week, individuals with insider knowledge of factory schedules in China have claimed that NVIDIA has informed board partners (AICs) that output for the GeForce RTX 4070 line is getting paused for a month. The temporary cutoff in factory output will allow, they hope, for the currently sitting stock to get cleared out. A substantial surplus of GeForce RTX 4070 cards could disrupt distribution networks and overstock warehouses.

Industry watchdogs have theorized that NVIDIA's board partners are having a difficult time offloading their premium tier RTX 4070 custom cards onto paying customers. The Founders Edition and closer-to-reference models have sold quite respectable numbers according to early analyses, but more expensive options are considered to be too expensive by the customer base. There is apparent crossover in pricing with the fancier GeForce RTX 4070 Ti range, and a savvy buyer will tend toward superior silicon rather than a shiny cooling solution combined with a factory-issued overclock. A computer hardware retailer in the UK, Novatech, has chosen to cut the price of a Palit RTX 4070 Dual model by £40/$50, as reported yesterday. The asking price has since returned closer to RRP - at the time of writing it stands at £579.98.
NVIDIA's official blurb from last week's press material states: "Introducing the GeForce RTX 4070, available April 13th, starting at $599. With all the advancements and benefits of the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture, the GeForce RTX 4070 lets you max out your favorite games at 1440p."

The signing off summary indicates a target audience consisting of professional types and well-heeled scholars: "With the leading ray tracing performance of the Ada architecture, NVIDIA DLSS 3, Reflex, and a ton of other cutting edge tech, the GeForce RTX 4070 is a great max settings 1440p gaming GPU, and a perfect entry point GPU for creators, video editors, and STEM students."

maxflyJust read an article stating that the 4070 gets smacked by the 6800xt in all but rt/dlss3 capable titles. That says everything I need to know about this heap. I'll keep buying 6 series cards for my client builds. 99% of which don't have any interest in $1000 halo cards. Sucks for me but whaddya do? I sure as hell ain't droppin a grand+ on a 4090.
Here's the article if you're interested...

www.pcworld.com/article/1788804/geforce-rtx-4070-vs-rtx-3080-vs-radeon-rx-6800-xt-which-gpu-buy.html
A single article will never be "all you need to know." Almost all the games tested here typically favor AMD GPUs, so the results are skewed. Meanwhile, TPU's review with 25 games tested show it as a tie between the two rather than a smackdown for the 6800 XT. Similar story in many other reviews.

Wow....look at the result even after withholding your consumption for just a brief amount of time....can you imagine what concessions Nvidia would be forced to make to consumers if even just a fraction of the potential customers withheld their purchases for an entire generation?
hsewMeanwhile AMD is content to continue selling last-gen cards. What a shame. Here’s to, um, Intel.
generations are just a name and for all intents and purposes irrelevant to most people and applications....there's not many features that RDNA2 lacks compared to RDNA3, so all that should really matter to most consumers is if the price to performance is correct for them....heck, I wouldn't care if the videocard just housed a hamster on a wheel, as long as it provided the performance I felt warranted by its respective price point.

Hi,
Well NV isn't wrong when they said people buy "ti"
Maybe just leave off the generic and just troll the "ti" part and be done with it NV save people decision time

HisDivineOrderOh, Jensen. You've strangled the golden goose to within an inch of its life. Imagine having that lucrative deal where you fleece companies to sell your products for you at next to no margins for them and all the money for you and you're like, "No. I want even more money than that. Push every die up a segment and raise prices up a segment, too. They'll pay it!"

If Lisa wasn't asleep at the wheel (or price fixing with him?), AMD would be capitalizing. Instead, Lisa and Jensen seem content with the status quo even when cards aren't selling. What a weird business model they've decided upon.
Publicly traded companies are pretty much beholden to their share holders, and the CEO has very little tangible power with respect to unilateral, sweeping changes of policy and direction, especially if it poorly effects stock price and profit margin....remember, AMD is not in the business of making CPUs and GPUs, they're in the business of generating profit, and it just so happens that designing and selling computer hardware achieve that end. Instead of saying Lisa is content with the status quo, it'd be more correct to state that the shareholders are content with the status quo, because the overwhelming majority of them probably have no personal interest or attachment to PC hardware as they probably view the products AMD sells as widgets that generate a profit.

Skewed...right. A tie...right. We're talking last gen vs current. There's all the skew I need to know.

The 4070 should be crushing the 6800xt, period end of story.

DavenWhen will these AIBs realize that doing business with Nvidia is a loss loss relationship. eVGA was able to figure it out. Why not the rest?
Because nvidia still end up selling over 80% of discrete gpu on the planet. Also other AIB like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte have OEM business. Having nvidia gpu inside their laptop or prebuilt will help them selling those unit.

I remember Huang saying last year that they planned to cut back production.

A fundamental change is taking place with a lot of gamers. Due to the economic conditions and uncertainty of the future gamers are not upgrading so readily. They look at what they have and accept that it's enough for now.

The trouble they have is there are still boatloads of unsold Ampere cards. This is why neither AMD and Nvidia were in any rush to release mide-tier cards, with so many unsold Ampere's and RDNA2 cards around and no crypto scum to sell them to.

4070 price is what the Ti version should be, 4070 $499, 4060 Ti $379, 4080 $899.

If RDNA 4 is no dearer than current prices, I'll jump on that to replace my 6800XT. Not a snowball's chance in hell Blackwell won't see prices rises due to the massive cost of TSMC's N3 wafers. AMD smartly using N4P for RDNA4.

A fair few here and all across the internet have a really unhealthy obsession with the CEO's of these companies, the fantasies people come up with about what they say and do are both entertaining and frightening. I suppose it's easier to vilify/praise a person than a company for their collective decisions.

Having said that, I'm glad prices are trending down, capitalist companies would be foolish to sell products for less than what people expect to pay, so they go higher where possible and gradually pull back till the balance is struck.

Double-ClickSmaller partners here like Zotac or PNY probably feel stuck.
If most of your business and brand awareness pertains to Nvidia GPUs, simply walking away isn't easy.

That said EVGA was in a better position to do just that, and felt confident enough in themselves to continue expansion into other segments.

ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI...very different story.
Deep pockets, established branding in other segments and they have AMD cards to boot.

The margins may suck right now, but they aren't being forced into anything yet. If there's profit to be had they'll stick around.
PNY is not a small partner, their consumer oriented side surely is small but their workstation GPUs is where they used to be sole partners for nVidia GPUs(these days like FE cards there seem to be 1st party nVidia SKUs).

True, I was just referring to the consumer side of things and diversity within that market, should have specified.

Every new 4xxx SKU just make the 4090 an even better option and for most, an imaginary option.

They are both from the same island, and if you give enough time for an island population they all become related at the end.

Razrback16Yep. I'm content just continuing to buy used gear. Not paying NVidia's ridiculous prices.
You pay them indirectly, by giving money for their old card to someone who intents to take that money and use it to buy a new Nvidia card. :p

I cannot repeat that enough...DON'T BUY.

They need our money but we don't need graphic cards.

Given the tiny GPU, narrow memory bandwidth and small PCB, this card shouldn't be priced that much, make it 500€ real price with tax and it'd make more sense.

While putting all the blame on the CEO might be unfair, you're naive if you believe that a CEO's influence is no greater than your typical middle manager. Moreover, Jensen Huang isn't you average, garden variety CEO. He's also the cofounder of Nvidia. Shareholders have a great deal of influence, but with a rockstar CEO like Jensen, Elon or Steve Jobs, the shareholders typically just go along with whatever they want. With that being said, like any large bureaucracy, large corporations typically do not run on one person's whims alone.

That island's population is greater than that of Netherlands and Denmark combined.

Being a CEO and co-founder didn't help Wozniak much (the man who actually designed the original Apple), he was still given the boot.

Of course, there are limits to your power if you aren't running a private, family run corporation. Still, being a CEO with a proven record like Jen-Hsun, buys you a lot of leeway. Whatever else you might say about the man, Nvidia has only gone in one direction for almost all of its history, and that's up.

Thanks, I learned something new. Apple Corps, founded by the Beatles, sued Apple multiple times over a period of three decades.

In two years rebrand as a 5060.

30 EUR in one week, I'll take that if it keeps going like this for two months. it's not dropping linearly but 100 would be nice.
