This Week in Gaming (Week 44)

As we enter the last week of October and the first few days of November, we have a crammed week of new games, as well as a bunch of old releases that have either been refreshed or released on PC for the first time. This week's AAA title is a single player RPG that appears to have something to do with an age of dragons. This is followed by a mystery on the moon, a strange life, cowboys, some martial arts, a trip through hell, mechanical animals and finally a sequel to Elona.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard / This week's first AAA release / Thursday 31 October
When a pair of corrupt ancient gods break free from centuries of darkness, the vibrant land of Thedas needs someone they can count on. Rise as Rook, Dragon Age's newest hero. Be who you want to be and play how you want to play as you fight back and lead your team of seven companions, each with their own rich story. Together you will become The Veilguard. Steam link
Moon Mystery / Monday 28 October
The Moon's haunted - and when an astronaut loses contact with Earth, the adventure begins in full. Fill up your oxygen, load up the guns, and set out on an interstellar FPS adventure across the stars, filled with puzzles, fights, exploration, and strange secrets of the universe. Steam link
Life is Strange: Double Exposure / Tuesday 29 October
When Max Caulfield finds her friend Safi dead in the snow, she tears open the way to a parallel timeline. Here, Safi is still alive - and still in danger! With her new power to Shift between two timelines - can Max solve and prevent the same murder? Steam link
Red Dead Redemption / Tuesday 29 October
Experience the story of former outlaw John Marston as he tracks down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in the PC debut of the critically acclaimed predecessor to Red Dead Redemption 2. Steam link
Karate Survivor / Wednesday 30 October
Become a martial arts master in this survivor-like roguelite inspired by action movies of the '80s. Use your fists, feet, and the environment to fight off relentless thugs. Master powerful combos, enhance your skills, and remember: everything around you is a weapon! Steam link
Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered / This week's first remake / Thursday 31 October
Join the crass Garcia Hotspur and his boney buddy, Johnson, as they traverse the depths of the Underworld to steal back Garcia's kidnapped lover, Paula, from the clutches of Fleming, the Lord of the Underworld. Let the soul of rock 'n' roll run loose in the heart of the twisted hellscape that is the Underworld. Steam link
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered / This week's second remake / Thursday 31 October
Experience the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn with stunning new visuals and upgraded features. In a far future where colossal machines roam the Earth, pockets of humanity survive in unique tribes among the lush, overgrown ruins of our long-lost civilization. Steam link
Elin / Friday 1 November / Early Access
A sequel to the legendary Japanese free game "Elona," which has inspired countless tales and adventurers who never returned. While retaining the traditional roguelike gameplay, Elin introduces crafting, survival elements, and base building/management, creating an even more open and chaotic experience. Steam link

I thought we'd made it through 44 weeks of the year without a single game that appealed to you, since this wasn't the first time you commented that there was nothing interesting.

AusWolfThat's up to you, not the games. As for me, I'm quite excited to try Moon Mystery.
It does look interesting.

kapone32I know it is insane. Once you have a huge library (and a PC you enjoy) Gaming is much more refined than buying the new thing every week though. Don't get me wrong I would love something like Max Payne2 or what would really be cool is if someone remastered Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast and ported it to PC.
Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake is in the works by Remedy.
Remedy Entertainment will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne as a single title, in a development agreement with Rockstar Games.

No. I spend enough time on this as is and mangagement demanded the Steam link. Click on the link to the publisher if the Steam link is not good enough for your personal needs.
Alternatively, you can pay me every week to add it, as I don't do this for free.

TheLostSwedeOuch! The list is as I explained last week, based on what's new and what's popular, but I guess you would've preferred something else, but didn't let me know ahead of posting it.
I don't post this list based on my preferences and personally I would most likely not spend my money on any of the games this week, but I have bought games I've posted about in the past.
I guess you also missed that it's not the first time that person has commented that and we're coming up to the 44th week of the year and so far there has apparently been nothing good this year.
Oh sorry. I don't really know about that guy in particular so I just saw the post and thought it sounded a bit flippant

That new Life is Strange will be most likely the last brand new game I'm buying this year, big fan of the serie in general + Max too so I can't miss out on that one.:)

To back this up as a reader (and I actually come a lot for the enterprise products and audio stuff that the gaming group ignores but I love and thanks for the good work!) to me Steam is the defacto PC client. Not that I don't have Epic, GOG, and others but Steam is sort of where it's all located because it's simpler. It's also got the most accurate grasp of who is buying what and who has what hardware by default. As a measuring tool it's very effective.

It was, a bit.

It's not just that though, as if we start doing Epic, we're going to be asked to do GOG, Amazon, EA and then every other site in the universe that sells games... Which is why I link directly to the games as and when possible. Some smaller game developers only have the Steam listing, no website, no social media, no YouTube.

SOAREVERSORSoul Caliber and DoA like most fighters keep churning out the next version though. The only glowups have really been the OG Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo. The problem is nobody plays the ones that got an HD glowup everyone still plays the OG version. It's very well known that the fighting game community does not play remakes. They always end up avoided like the plague. The rare cases releasing them on a newer platform has worked it's always been taking the ROM of the original game and simply adding in online along with the fighting game communities (well the Street Fighter community did it) roll back netcode to make them worth playing online.
I hear you. I'd like them to remaster Soul Calibur 2 for Steam and release it for Switch 2 on the condition we can play as Link on the PC version. I bought SC6 for full price and didn't have nearly the fun I had with 2 and 3. Those were the best. Not worth buying the other versions.

I'll try to unshroud the Moon Mystery if it fits my budget. Otherwise I'll get it on sale.

AusWolfI can't really put Moon Mystery anywhere. Is it a shooter? A puzzle game? Or a mystery-exploration game? I don't know. But it looks interesting enough to get my vote.
A shooter, with mystery and exploration. I tried the demo back in June and it was pretty cool. But it was a technical mess, really uneven performance between levels and some of the controls were pretty bad.

It definitely has potential. I wonder how much they were able to improve since then.

Would be RDR, but price is way too high. The rest is thoroughly uninteresting

The vast majority of gamers use Steam for purchases. The rest can search on their preferred platforms to their heart's content.

AusWolfThat, and for the studio to make more money in general, without taking the effort of creating and releasing a new game. Laziness and greed.
They gotta make that $400 million lost on ConCord somehow.

I doubt that's gonna happen with the remake of a relatively new game, though.

Perhaps using a store aggregator like isthereanydeal or gg.deals (if you don't mind key sites being listed) would be a better alternative. I don't personally care about the link in the article, but I wanted to add to the topic.

Digital Foundry was surprisingly positive about HZD remaster, so I'm kinda looking forward to that, because I was going to do a rerun of it

Never trust mainstream game review sites. It's one of the most basic rules of internet browsing.

Not to deter you from getting the game or anything, just saying. :)

i have a feeling we would be seeing the final installment of horizon series next year...
this remaster is an indication of consistency for all 3 titles... in terms of graphics fidelity...
the next horizon is gonna utilize the full power of ps5 pro and when new players pick it up they might wanna play the prequels... and the developers think the original is a bit outdated....
otherwise i cant think of other reasons why they would remaster it so fast... other than cash grab which most people think its the reason...
